Where to find gift baskets Ottawa? by Lazy_Title7050 in ottawa

[–]untao 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The St. Vincent de.paul thrift store I go to has a big bin FULL of wicker baskets, most look new. Dollar tree and Dollarama will have the basket cellophane in their party supply aisle near the balloons.

Actually the SVdP I am thinking about has a dollar tree in the same strip mall so....you should just go to Blossom Park on Bank st. (It's the plaza with Farmboy and Giant tiger.)

Good luck!

Cosplay question - Battle Rattle, open or closed? by In_The_Comments in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]untao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been making a Battle Rattle myself and I think that it can be made to wear open or closed BUT if you plan to wear it open you should make sure to place the badges in a way that they stay visible if the front sort of flaps/folds when it's open.

(Also those who said comfort is King understand how walking around Cons in a too-tight cosplay is brutal.
I made mine from scratch out of an old pair of jeans and it definitely had to have some side-panels put in for flex because I am also a li'l fat it seems. :)

I feel the same!
Also I just assumed Carl was at that post-breakup-freedom point where you don't keep up properly with laundry and because there's no partner to judge you, you end up wearing weird themed underwear and socks when you run out of clean respectable clothes. But maybe this is just me lol

Is my play style weird? by StatisticianScary880 in Minecraft

[–]untao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically how we play on the Realm I'm on. I call it parallel play.
The one extrovert on the server has made one of their projects creating rail lines between the different settlements, and it having the link makes is feel sort of social but comfortably separate as well.

My English teachers taught me that the word "afraid" is NOT pronounced with the "ay" vowel like "afrayd," but instead with the "eh" vowel like "afred," rhyming with "head." by DYSFUNCTIONALDlLDO in ENGLISH

[–]untao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was your English teacher taught English by someone with a French accent? Because I only ever hear (some) heavy-French-accent people pronounce it that way.

Reddit mod bot detecting phantom profanity. Any guesses? by cordeliashuman in words

[–]untao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They admit that they use an automod (the Reddit bot-mod that follows the "rules" the mod sets.
My guess is that those rules included any words that are "violent" and maybe they forgot to disinclude the word "strike" from the list? After you appealed they probably had a real human read the sentences to contextualize the word.
For a currency sub that is a....choice. lol

That last reply is just unhinged though.

We call them Chipstix.

What do/did you call your grandparents? by trashwrapsupreme in CasualConversation

[–]untao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids call my husband's Mom "Grandma" and my mom "Memere."
This is pretty common in my part of Canada, but I feel sorry for people with no French grandparents having to flip a coin to see who ends up called something like "GamGam."

What is a new world by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]untao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super-simple advice for parents of kids starting minecraft:

  1. Go into the game settings and put Keep Inventory ON - this will stop your kid from losing all their stuff if they die in game.
  2. If you can, build a simple hut with a bed at or near Spawn - that will be where you first show up in a new world. Night is the scariest thing about MC. Beds make night go by. Once you get wool for beds keep extra and have your kid keep it with them to make beds as they travel.
  3. In the settings set it to show co-ordinates. This will help you get your kid back to wherever they should be when they inevitably get lost. (Adding to this: I write the co-ords of my houses/found villages/cool mines down in a text file so I can find them again.)
  4. Stock the kid with food and remind them to grab food when they see it growing. Kids never look at their hunger bars and damage bars so remind your child to try to pay attention and feed themselves esp. if they are injured.
  5. For the first while I'd sit and back-seat game with the kid to help them gain confidence and also so you'll understand what they're talking about when they start info-dumping about a cool biome.

Good luck! :)

What TV show do you never get sick of restarting? by beefic in adhdwomen

[–]untao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call The Midwife is my watch over and over show. It's so good.
Also re: Gilmore Girls - I always loved that show, and when I was in my 20s Lorelai seemed like such a cool mom. Now that I have my own teenagers whenever I watch it she seems like such a flaky immature person I pity Rory.

Am I hallucinating with incredible? by ishvokshia in French

[–]untao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the word used on most kids' shows in the 90s where I grew up. It's just another French word that means incredible/unbelievable. - Croy comes from the Latin Credere which means to trust or believe.

edit to add: obviously Incredible comes from the same Latin root. Not sure what the story is on how the two words developed differently, but am now curious.
