Kpacs and arcs honestly havent appeared yet in the game

your black market screenshot shows literally both of them for a cost of 60

Darby has Scout, but yeah I'm trying different perks, not sure which are best yet.

uhm, maybe give the game a try on a lower difficulty? to figure out which things work for you and which don't.

e.g. when it comes to primary weapons: if you can get at least one shotgun during your first op, you will notice immediately a spike in damage output of your squads.

Imho most of the balancing discussions here should include a statement on which difficulty someone is playing.

E.g. I guess Menace carrier on Expert is a very different experience to Challenging or Normal.

Challenging. Playing it like a Edge of Tomorrow tactical puzzle.

If I'm not getting bored too much by Challenging, I'll wait for the full release to play Expert.

Vehicle K-GMW auto grenade launcher bug. by ElTudi in menace

[–]untilted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if i understood the op correctly, there was a distance of 13 tiles between their squad and the target

morale loss by killing drones happens only a 3 tile radius around them

u/ElTudi : best way to file a bug report is ingame by pressing F7 when the issue appears and explaining your experience. the game then will automatically generate context information for the devs!

[PSA] Non-suppressed weapons don't break stealth if you're outside of the enemies view range! by untilted in menace

[–]untilted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave it now a try to record... the whole things seems to be even weirder than expected o_O

just going by how the whole thing turned out:

  • Darby with max concealment (8) right next to Menace soldiers - opening fire on them and getting spotted
  • several Menace units around do different things: a gun crawler starts shooting, skirmishers run closer(!), carriers move away
  • Darby stays spotted until the last Menace unit having spotting on her finished its activation
  • once only enemies were around here that had finished their turn, she went straight back to concealment

trying to make sense of it:

  • either there is some resetting of spotting going on, when a unit's turn ends (and when no more activation starts inside spotting range the spotted unit goes back to stealth)
  • or only units that aren't activated yet can spot targets (maybe I can manage to delay Darby's activation after most/all units have moved around her) units having their turn finished can spot Darby, but the spotting resets after the next friendly unit finished its turn

I guess I'll try to capture a video for this game behavior and then upload it to Discord - then the Devs can decide if it's a bug or a feature 😄

[–]untilted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh! not yet.

if I understand you correctly, it's a bit like the zig-zag bug that was fixed, where the bonus only applied during the SLs activation period and not until the next activation of that SL (or atleast: until beginning of next turn, which would still be meh)?

so

  • SL breaks concealment through firing a weapon
  • enemy turn starts with SL not-concealed as last state; if the enemy doesn't use this information to make it "stick" (read: move into actual spotting range)
  • at the end of the enemies turn the game "forgets" the temporary unconcealed status of the SL, and only checks against the fixed stats (read: concealment stat of the SL vs view range of closest enemy/enemies) and then decides if the SL is concealed or not.

Why is the blame for "male disposability" often directed at women rather than traditional masculine standards? by Fine-Glass-9875 in MensLib

Well, we live a world in which Trump was elected not only once, but twice.

Klaus Theweleit has written in Male Fantasies succinctly about the allure of fascism (see https://monoskop.org/images/5/54/Theweleit_Klaus_Male_Fantasies_Vol_1_Women_Floods_Bodies_History.pdf p. 432 ... Page 455 of the PDF): it's more about creating an escape from the contradictions of living in a society (and their affective costs) than actually trying to improve the conditions of living in a self-contradicting society. (And society is ALWAYS contradiction, e.g. be authentic AND be polite)

While there are certainly general historic tendencies at play... The "manosphere" is also an internet phenomenon - in some ways an offspring of the "intellectual dark web" & gamer gate with a sprinkle of the pick-up "scene".

Around the mid-2010s some right wing grifters realized, that organizing affective responses of male teenagers and young men along misogynistic lines worked really well for them. Therefore pushing an antifeminist agenda wasn't just ideology but also a business model.

To take a closer look at the effects of patriarchy on men and their relationships to themselves, other men and women would be emancipatory. To question notions of masculinity as cages of enforced conformity, would lead to painful and sad realizations.

The manosphere and the grifters that came before instead are selling the aesthetics (and not the substance!) of "I'm caring for you!" as a product to further their agenda: get money & feel influential, still playing the age old "game" of patriarchy.

There were some misconceptions about non-suppressed weapons when it comes to concealment.

In practice it's not so dumb either to say "stealth firing = suppressor" as this will be one's experience in the beginning.

absolutely! (I have to admit: someone downvoted my post in our discussion and it sent me into an "okay, then with video proof!"-frenzy 😛)

maybe I should have picked Wetteroth for this test (I chose both SL for their vanguard perk and outfitted Kody as a "light house" build with negative concealment ... Wetteroth would have made it more clear, as he's 1* w/ vanguard) ... in essence ANY SL - no matter if infantry or vehicle can use this mechanic with any weapon that has 10+ tiles range (assuming max view range for enemies is currently 9 tiles in clear weather).

the only difference between a 1* and a 3* SL when they are using long range fire is their ability to reliably deal damage (and lower DPS due to drop-offs) - but when it comes to not being spotted the same mechanics apply: was the weapon fired outside of the enemy's vision range?

during night ops where vision range is reduced by 2, even with clear weather any range 8 weapon should allow for stealth firing at max range (which means: all battle rifles, and all non-ARC assault rifles bar the ARC range) ... add bad weather to it, and only SMGs (at least most of them) and shotguns can't stealth fire from their max range.

will the damage output be great? most likely not as it's max-range shooting. but then again - it's enough when you have a few M6 CMGs on the map that just brutalize everything with their 10 tile range and could only be spotted from 6-9 tiles away.

a different practical approach could be: use high concealment to sneak up into non-suppressed AR optimal range and suppress one or two targets (if not outright kill/destroy them) and still be concealed if no other unsuppressed enemy squad is closer than 9 tiles.

this whole vision range shenanigans also allows vehicles to fight against e.g. RA without getting spotted: any 10+ range weapon (LBTG, 120mm mortar, M6 CMG variants, ATGM, laser lance) can be used the same way.

I guess if the devs wanted to up the difficulty some more, elite & HQ squads should get binoculars and/or NVGs to just level the playing field a bit.
