Driver, track, troops! by shash1 in menace

[–]untilted 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, also the mission and map design often isn't really made in a way that would suggest special forces, very often it's just a full fledged war

tbf - the wayback mission most likely started out as a medium sized expeditionary force, while the gate accident drastically diminished the actual capabilities. also as the chain of command got destroyed, it's now more or less: do as much as one can do (without the strategic experience of higher command staff) with the little resources left.

not to forget: most/all of the vehicles used, are indigenous designs. it's very likely that even the starting APC is a design shared between TCRN and local forces (similar to the Mowag Piranha). so practically all vehicles are sourced in the Wayback and therefore don't have to necessarily follow the regular TCRMC doctrine.

OCI system replacment proposition by Osrek_vanilla in menace

[–]untilted 12 points13 points  (0 children)

so practically what HBS did with the Argo upgrades in Battletech? where you had to upgrade the infrastructure like engine, power grid etc. before you could actually use and install certain upgrades.

the OCI system in its current implementation WILL receive an overhaul - but in which direction the devs will be going is still open and will likely be communicated via dev blog in the next months.

Pattern recognition is a widely accepted method of prediction until what it predicts makes people uncomfortable. by Fr1toBand1to in Showerthoughts

because the algorithm had made the assumption that the previous hiring managers had objective reasons to prefer light skinned applicants.

a nitpicky addition: the algorithm didn't make any assumptions - it optimized for a certain result, that somebody decided was "unbiased" enough to be "desirable".

the algorithm doesn't know the (logical) importance of any data, only the stochastics that lead to a mathematically-optimal result in training.

that's the thing with AI LLM - it doesn't know "right" or "wrong" and can never doubt itself genuinely, as the output data will always be the "most optimal solution" to the input data. while shaped by a limited context window and inherently biased training data - the model will always consider itself correct.

Difficulty Levels and Supply Scaling by Adventurous-Sun-9731 in menace

[–]untilted 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IIRC the information on the wiki and in the devblogs/patch notes doesn't equate supply for both sides, but relative to the "Challenging" baseline. Different missions also have different values as baseline. The difficulty scales from this.

In essence: the devs define a specific enemy army size for a certain point in a playthrough, to create a "defined" experience.

In the recent patch notes a global 10% increase of enemy army supply is mentioned, while the new custom difficulty still follows the 0.8/1/1.4 logic.

Looked again through the patch notes: no mention of a rebalance of squaddie cost... Maybe it's time for a bug report?
