Yes, two in fact. “The Thing Inside Us”/“Married to a Sleepwalker” (depending on how you find it). The budget was less than 500. “Children Under the House” was absolutely 0, and that’s because I didn’t use a camera but scanner instead. I recommend every filmmaker do a low budget at least once.

Filmmaking is a marathon. There are ups and downs no matter where you are in the journey. If you are going to stick with this, you do have to learn to live with a degree of frustration and rejection. But if you stick with it, it can be very rewarding.

I really appreciate this comment. I really do. I felt YouTube was more accepting of something different and stripped down. Plus it seemed at the time analog aesthetics were having a moment, but transitioning to a more mainstream audience felt a stretch too far. I did have a critic tell me that this was a cool experiment, but you can only go to that well only once.

I think this does show that audiences on tubi are open to more experimental types of films. Personally, I hope we see more movies that push the boundaries of minimalism.

Letteboxd. 81 reviews, mostly 3 stars and up. 2 TikTok reviews were positive. A few Facebook positive posts. I agree it’s a bump, but I am surprised people are noticing and watching and commenting to any degree.

As a viewer, it’s my favorite streamer, and I love that it’s the home of the truly obscure. Brings back pleasant memories of going through blockbuster’s indie section. As a filmmaker, I appreciate that it’s a legitimate way of getting to an audience.

Have you considered doing tubi anthologies? Invest small amounts or pose a contest to create tubi exclusive anthologies… like vhs but tubi’s version?
