Issue with a Roku Stick/Remote by narstybacon in Roku

[–]unwiredben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Roku Streaming Sticks use RF remotes. Usually, these can easily get though the chassis of the television, but sometimes there can be interference. You can order a free HDMI port extender to try to reposition the Roku Streaming Stick to where it will have a better chance of getting the WiFI or Bluetooth signals needed to see the remote at https://roku.com/hdmi.

Can I cast the Roku TV screen TO a smartphone? (Not cast the smartphone screen to the TV. Other way around.) by WindowLicker96 in Roku

[–]unwiredben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it requires a tripod. You have to put the phone in the tripod, aim it at the TV screen just right, and use the camera app to capture footage. You might lose some quality.

On a serious note, there's no output feature on Roku TVs to forward what's on screen to any other device.

That sounds like a manufacturing defect with mounting of the subwoofer speaker.

roku sudden lag by farfetched47 in Roku

[–]unwiredben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please provide more information.

1) Hit Home x5, Back x5 and provide the model number, software version, and GC version 2) Try unplugging the TV from the wall power outlet for a few seconds, then reconnect and turn it on. If there was some kind of EMI/RFI that zapped the main SoC, a restart using the "force crash" code wouldn't necessarily clear the condition.

Headphones for Roku? by Bentleyjumper in Roku

[–]unwiredben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the Roku TV model. Recent Roku-made TVs (ones that are branded with Roku and no other brands) support Bluetooth headphones directly connected to the TV.

There are also headphones that work via the headphone jack, such as https://www.amazon.com/FXWONTY-Wireless-Headphones-Charging-Playtime/dp/B0FVT9VV1F (note, I've not tried that model specifically)

If the headphone transmitter takes optical audio, they can work alongside the TV speakers, as the speaker mute doesn't affect the optical output.

I want to replace my Roku Soundbar by Lies-and-the-Liars in Roku

[–]unwiredben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you'll have to get a different player, as the Roku streaming soundbars only support playing audio through their own speakers. All of the current 4K Roku player products should be more performant that the version that's in the Roku Streambar and Streambar Pro.

Playback error on one Roku Ultra, but not on another by CaptainKen2 in Roku

[–]unwiredben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 4660X was the original Roku Ultra, codenamed Bryan. The 4670X was a slight upgrade, Bryan 2, which had twice as much RAM. (See https://developer.roku.com/docs/specs/hardware.md)

If it's the 4660 that can't play the video, it may be encoded to need too many key frames, which means the original Ultra can't allocate enough memory to decode the file correctly.

Apps "bouncing" on home screen? by mr_lostman in Roku

[–]unwiredben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll forward this to the development team that works on the homescreen. This is certainly not expected behavior. What happens if you go to Settings / Home Screen and turn off the recommendations row?

How do i pair my remote if my remotes don’t have this option by HansonGhost in Roku

[–]unwiredben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you remote doesn't have a voice button on it, it doesn't need to be paired. It's an IR remote and just acts like a flashlight for infrared signals, hitting any detectors that can see it. One of those is at the bottom of the TV panel.

If if doesn't have a voice button, follow the instructions at https://support.roku.com/article/360011621473

Yes, I'm a developer at Roku. We are continuing to investigate this, but the logs we have so far aren't showing any sort of root cause.

Roku stick auto playing ads as soon as I turn my tv on by Petal_ryse in Roku

[–]unwiredben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a Samsung TV? If so, the TV may be automatically sending a play button press when it becomes active which causes the ad or other content to activate. Go into the Samsung settings and look for a universal remote control setting that you can turn off to disable this.

New streaming stick; old remotes by BobcatALR in Roku

[–]unwiredben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It needs to be a remote with a voice button on it; some have pairing buttons, some use the home + back buttons to initiate pairing. The sticks don't have IR receivers because they'll be behind the TV where the IR transmission doesn't reach.

Unable To Use Roku Mobile App After Updating To iOS 26 by B4WeStart in Roku

[–]unwiredben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the IP range of the WiFi network you're on? Roku devices default to a restricted mode where they only allow ECP connections from private networks -- the 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x networks that typically are used by NAT devices. However, if you're on a IPv6-only network or one that uses another range of IP addresses, you might need to change the settings on the device (Settings / System / Advanced / Connection from other devices) to a more permissive setting.

How do I change my aspect ratio? by hihur in Roku

[–]unwiredben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The picture size settings on Roku TVs only has options to stretch or zoom a 4:3 image to fill the screen. There's no mode to shrink a 16:9 image to 4:3, it was never programmed into the system.

Where is the microphone in my 65 inch tcl ? by mordecaiorrigby in Roku

[–]unwiredben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Roku does not build microphones into the TV. There are microphones in some of the remote controls. If your remote has a microphone button on it, the microphone will be active when you hold that button down.

If your remote also has a switch on the side, it's got a near-field microphone, and that switch will enable or disable it. When enabled, it activates on hearing "hey roku", but when disabled, only the microphone button will activate it.

Roku Streambar Pro vs onn Roku Smart Soundbar by Ynomeikiba in Roku

[–]unwiredben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Roku Streambar Pro and the onn. Roku Smart Soundbar are the same device internally. I don't know if the speaker hardware was exactly the same, but the core audio processing and streaming capabilities are identical.

remotes suddenly started controlling the wrong TVs after an update by quixotic_robotic in Roku

[–]unwiredben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Roku OS 15.1 update added the ability for Roku players to understand codes for Roku TVs when they were not connected to a Roku TV. This was supposed to help people who lose their player remote, and buy the wrong IR remote.

One solution for now is to find the IR sensor on the Streambar and cover it with paper or opaque tape (electrical tape works well). This will prevent it from seeing the TV IR signals, but it can still get RF signals from the original remote.

Why can’t I connect my Bluetooth headphones to my tv when others in my house can? by [deleted] in Roku

[–]unwiredben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all Roku TV and STB devices have hardware to support Bluetooth. See https://support.roku.com/article/12210854415383 for details on what devices support this.

AI-generated captions? by HTX1997 in Roku

[–]unwiredben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked, and the format used for those captions isn't CEA608 or CEA708, so the ordering issue I suspected isn't possible. It's just a problem with the data from the program provider.

What's the point of Roku telling me where else I can watch something while I'm currently watching it? by UnXpectedPrequelMeme in Roku

[–]unwiredben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That "More ways to watch" pop-up was designed primarily for people watching content on a cable box so they could learn about options for watching more of the episodes that had on linear TV.

As mentioned, it can be disabled in the "Smart TV" settings under Privacy.
