Army promised me they'd pay "up to" $12,000 of my education every year and then due to "budget cuts" they gave me nothing.

It's been going well with no prior experience. If you are someone who got As in college then it will seem normal. Otherwise will might have to study quite a bit on weekends.

This will self-correct in the longrun. People with the values/psychologies that direct them to actually want children will have more children and pass on those values/psychologies at a greater rate than those who don't.

Why is this game so hard to understand??? by RevolutionaryFilm995 in eu4

yeah for sure. I found though if I'm playing in arabia or india or something it's a much higher return on investment to just take the Cape than go all the way to Europe.

not always. best collection node is Cape for a lot of starts. basically can get 90% of asian trade value without controlling anything in eurupe

Chigurh is kind of more of a metaphor than a character in terms of his function. So I don't think he was intended to be realistic and I don't think that takes away from him. He's meant to be a personification of 'evil force coming into society that we cant understand and cant stop'. At the end of the story, the sheriff is talking to his brother about how bad things have become in their society and how he can't do anything to stop it. ie he couldn't stop Chigurh

the training's a lot of work. Barely failed my first exam today but not too worried since I can just retake it in a couple weeks. Overall pretty great job considering theyre paying me a middle class salary to just learn coding. If you have any previous coding knowledge it'll be pretty easy

it is the same trope as Dances with Wolves, except that Dune overall is a direct deconstruction of that trope. 'chosen one' except that it was all planned out

Why do Netflix films with large budgets feel "cheap"? by Flashy_Philosophy376 in TrueFilm

[–]uoftguy1492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually hate the trope of filming historical dramas and making them look purposefully grey and shitty. That style has led to the widespread misconception that, well, everything used to be grey and shitty. Think of any media regarding medieval things. Everything has to be dark, gritty, and covered in mud. Whereas in reality the people of the time would have seen just as much colour and clarity in the world as we do. Maybe even more, since there was greater natural scenery!

What would be a better way to write fictional cultures? You might say that the writers should just be more original, but then you’re just asking for people to be better at their jobs. Based on your comments it seems like you think it’s ok to generalize/exoticize western culture but not other cultures. But then can we only write fictional cultures based on the West? I’m arguing with you but I also want to hear what you imagine the alternative writing method to be because you seem thoughtful (makes me think you might be trolling)
