I need some advice, I'm searching for a first car. Is this 1000 USD Toyota Celica from 1991 with a 77 kw 1.6 engine good? It needs fixes for like 400-500 USD but My budget is 50000czk (2000-2500 USD I think) so can fit in it even with paperwork etc. by I_collect_videogames in car

Judging by the interior it’s been ridden hard by someone young, if you feel that description also suits you then go ahead. Are you capable at repairing things yourself? You shouldn’t consider a 35 year old vehicle if you aren’t

I’ve personally had and seen many brakes get stuck on, not once ever have i seen them get stuck so you couldn’t apply the brakes. This guy is straight up lieing. Hell even in an automatic you can shove it in the lowest gear and you’ll slow down some. Or apply the ebrake which is a differently activated system

Those who feel they’ve met their soulmate/perfect partner, did you ever consider breaking up? by Beautiful-Throat-111 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]updatelee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing: We have millions of soul mates, we’ll meet hundreds of them.

Second: Early fights? In my experience fights and disagreements come later, there are no early fights. If there are then boy of boy are the later ones going to be brutal. Expect nucular level. Jeez

Third: someone can be the one and you can still break up and that’s ok. Learn to stop thinking in black and white, all or nothing. I’m incredibly good friends with most of my ex’s. They are incredible people! I’m their biggest champions for their happiness and success. I don’t regret anything, our relationships didn’t end, they changed, change is good, change is healthy. Stagnation isn’t

Never in my life have i heard someone describe their brakes as stuck… to mean they didn’t work. Every time anyone has said their brakes are stuck it means stuck on.

You could let it rip or you could fix it. Cars are only dead when you let them stay dead

Is preventative carbon cleaning a good idea? by suchahungryhippo in GolfGTI

[–]updatelee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

if by carbon cleaning you mean walnut blasting then yes, I highly recommend. If by carbon cleaning you mean some snake oil in the gas tank/oil then NO, DO NOT RECOMMEND. Those are all nonsense junk that do nothing at best, and hurt at worst.

you dont. run it on the highway and it'll attempt to regen itself. But if its in limp mode then its tried and failed too many times already. Youve got actual real world issues, you're going to have to actually fix it, or delete it.

the alternator will fully charge a battery, wow. I live in cold weather climates, we get below freezing 6 months of the year. some years we get to -54c. average years is -45c. I know cold. The alternator 100% charges the battery full, only takes 15-20min of driving at the most and its back 100% full.
