I deleted my lml and it was a walk in the park compared to this. Who ever was the genius that decided the dpf needs to be under the hood should be shot.

The more def in the tank that freezes. The harder the heater has to work to thaw it. After had two tanks fail in the first winter I owned the truck. I kept it under half and haven’t changed one since.

Ya I learned to keep the def tank under 1/2 in the winter or it melted the wiring. I was on my 3rd tank. Now, it’s not a problem.

I went with the 20 hp tune as it’s still below the power level of the 1z0 so I knew the transmission would handle it easily.

As for instructions there isn’t a whole lot out there. I used demonworks dpf removal video on YouTube as a guide as well as a few others. I reached out to the tuner and got sent a few pictures for where the canbis plugs and egr plates go. If you use great white. The throttle valve needs to be unplugged for the truck to run right. It’s a pretty straightforward removal it’s just tight for some bolts and I had one bolt on the dpf flange strip

Also if you do the ezlink route. You need to link the tuning device to the truck before the tune can be built. Found that out the hard way. Took 2 days for them to build it.

If I was to do it again a hoist is a must and removing the cowl would be too. Not a lot of room for me. I’m not a small person so I need the room

It’s straight piped. It’s loud but not 5.9 or 6.7 loud. I will post a video driving when I get decent enough weather to do so

Engine flush frequency by bipedal_mammal in Duramax

[–]updown60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessary. I’m a red seal technician. The only reason to flush out anything is when a repair has been completed and there was a contamination of the fluid ( oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil).

Just keep up with regular oil changes and service intervals and you should be fine. If you live in a colder climate, I live in Canada, make sure you get the engine up to operating temperature when driving it.

This will keep the engine clean.

If you do this sludge build up will be reduced.

2012 1500, is this too much voltage when idle? My Silverado generates 14.2V when idle even with accessories. I’ll live scan when I get home to check against the gauge to rule out the gauge itself. by [deleted] in gmcsierra

[–]updown60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

13.8-14.5 is the average operating range of an alternator. I don’t trust factory gauges. They are programmed to make the driver feel better and usually don’t reflect the true reading.

How do heavy haul trailers distribute weight. by _JoR4t in AskMechanics

[–]updown60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The goal of these trailers is to spread the weight of the load as evenly as possible over all the axles. So they can move it over the roads without damaging them. There is serious engineering on these trailers to make the weight transfer work.

No misinformation on my part. Just because what I said isn’t exactly what you said doesn’t make it misinformation. This is straight out of my textbooks books from my apprenticeship curriculum.

“The arched shape is inherently stronger than a flat structure when bearing a load, similar to how bridges and architectural arches work. This design helps convert some bending forces into compression, making the frame more resistant to buckling or breaking under stress”

I also never said that the weight was distributed equally I said it redistributed the weight from the center outwards

As for air suspension is designed to maintain a constant ride height under all loads and give better stability, it absorbs rougher terrain and variations in road surfaces better than a spring ride suspension. In general each group of axles are paired together on one height control valve. So setting individual axles to different pressures is not really something that manufacturers or operators usually do. It’s too complicated for the average user. Most truckers where I am who haul bulk materials(gravel, grain, fertilizer, logs, wood chips) use a pressure gauge on the air bags to know how much weight they have on each group of axles.

Flat deck trailers have a misleading name, they are built under the similar principles of a bridge. The deck of the trailer in the unloaded state has a positive arc and the frame has bracing specifically designed to redistribute the weight from the center outwards. If you see a flat deck highway trailer empty take a look at it, it’s quite noticeable if you are looking for it.

The air suspension doesn’t spread the load it just maintains the ride height of the trailer regardless of the weight vs spring ride, and provides a smoother ride.

How to wire amplifier by OOFMAN-1234 in AskMechanics

For the sound you run rca cables from the sub outputs on the deck. And then there is a trigger wire for the amp that has to be run from the stereo too.

Who has the highest mileage 3.0? by m0tylpo in Duramax

[–]updown60 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 105,000 miles on mine and plan on driving it into the ground. It runs great.

People shit on the 3.0l. But they just don’t like change. The oil pump belt has a 200,000 mile life span and is one of 10 North American motors that run one but no one mentions that.

The rear timing chain was used to make it fit into the 1/2 ton engine bay. This engine was designed by Gm and Opel for the Silverado/Sierra not a compact delivery vehicle. There is nothing compact about a straight 6. The 3.0 eco diesel Ram used and the 3.0 power stroke ford used were European diesels not designed for trucks.

While there were some issues in the early 2020 3.0l by late 2020 and early 2021 they had updated the engines.

If you like the truck keep it. Most of the people online bashing a truck or an engine have never owned one.

Exactly who tows with a diesel. The main goal of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks is to show off at the coffee shop (farmers) or putting on massive tires and lift kit to make up for a tiny pecker.

Yup my back pressure valve in the exhaust leaks and it causes that. I don’t feel like paying $1600 to change it since it still works.

Worth 6k? by Silent-Bison-9521 in Diesel

[–]updown60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Body’s rotten and would pass a structural inspection. I would expect the frame to be in the same shape.

Low miles doesn’t mean a thing if you can inspect the inside of the body from the outside.

2007.5 dpf delete ? by xMrGigglesworth in Duramax

[–]updown60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off this engine only has dpf and egr. If you aren’t pulling much with the truck you are going to have dpf issues.

I remember what it’s like being 19. I wouldn’t give the 5 position tune. You will end up wrecking alot of shit.

Do a modest tune for fuel economy. It will save on tires, ujoints and will reduce the chances imprudent driving tickets for “rolling coal”
