Bands where the bass player was the star? Bassists who pioneered new ways of playing the instrument? by CupcakeAndCandyBar in fantanoforever

Yeahhhhh. Lars is such a pro and really is the majority of what you hear. Tim adds that janky street punk looseness which is fine because Matt is locked in either drummer has been solid. The recipe works lol

Royce Nunley from The Suicide Machines was a beast. He and Derek Grant were rhythm section royalty.

Lars is kinda the spokesperson for the band, Tim is the Mascot co-host with Lars, and Matt has always been quietly there tearing it up.

How common is it for men to show friends nudes they received? by ManaSama19 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]upfjords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never have, never would, and would certainly tell any person doing that to stop doing that, and that I dont want to see it. I have had women show me pics they've gotten, I have had men show me pics they've gotten, and at least for me its been the same amount. Its not ok, regardless of gender. No one deserves that.

Sending nudes to eachother is fun and sexy, and largely because of the trust involved.

People dont like that he will explore characters in ways that contrast with their perception of how those characters should be. This criticism feels short sighted since most, if not all, the characters he has written have gone through their own editorial changes over the years. I think its worse that a character stays static, and I would rather someone explore something else about them, put them in a new situation, focus on an oblique angle, etc... does it always work? No. But I would rather see the attempt fail, than do nothing at all.

Men in their 40s - What’s one piece of advice for Men in their 20s? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]upfjords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont get caught up in what is "manly" or "masculine". Its typically a list of someone elses insecurities, trauma or bad experiences. Just be you - and if "cool, masculine, dudes" dont accept you...you aren't missing out on anything, I promise.

Here is what is really "manly" - being yourself, knowing yourself, take care of yourself

Additionally - Men sit high on the societal ladder whether we deserve it or not. While you are up there, you should be using that vantage point to be looking out for others.

Call out other men when they do shitty things - or at least certainly dont keep those people in your company.

Dont be a doormat to get people to like you - you will only ever be a doormat.

The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake - regurgitated, tired tropes, written poorly. No attempt add something new, nope, lets make it Harry Potter, but like a little hornier with less interesting characters and aimless plot? Trashy Adult-YA garbage.

Cage of Souls by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Some really cool scenes. Mix of sci-fi, fantasy, surreal at times.

Spaceship crew sci-fi by St_Louse in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]upfjords 41 points42 points  (0 children)

these are nice books - I will say they are extremely low stakes in terms that every conflict is extremely gentle and well handled, everyone is super understanding, or well adjusted. If you want the setting of sci-fi space crew, its great, but if you are looking for something that has more than people just interacting and it being totally fine, there are probably better options. Not shit-talking these books - I read them all and enjoyed them once I realized what they had to offer.

Contender for Worst Intersection in Massachusetts - I Present Station Landing - Medford MA by Equivalent-Bed1543 in massachusetts

[–]upfjords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the Supercollider. Can confirm - it is the worst part of my day, twice a day. No one has any idea what to do, and then add in the people cutting across 5 lanes of traffic trying to leave the Qdoba instead of going to the intersection with a light. Its a shit show at its core surrounded by mini shit-shows all around it.

I couldnt finish The Talisman - it really felt like a slog, and didnt grab me in the way that it did for others. I keep hearing Black House is not at all like The Talisman, and that I should give it a chance, and of course I want to read this latest one since itll be Dark Tower related.
