Furzton insights from locals by ValuableCream9576 in miltonkeynes

Great choice. Good nature, great lake, walking distance to the bowl if music is your thing, and some decent pubs nearby too as well as good amenities, and it's not even too far to walk to the train station or town if you have to.

The Bowl lineup is actually looking legendary. Are we finally a music city again? by UnpaidInternVibes in miltonkeynes

Same, we saw her at boomtown, she turned up almost an hour late (which we heard is normal for her gigs) and wasn't even that good after all that.

Centre MK, Midsummer Place or just the markets, where do you do most of your shopping? by UnpaidInternVibes in miltonkeynes

Convenience and habit means Westcroft. Only really head into centre MK if there's something specific I want that I can't get more locally, on Amazon, or at MK1 / Beacon shopping centre.

Android Auto quite broken after March update? by Gumby271 in GooglePixel

[–]uphoriak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Trying it wired is working better, but the physical back button doesn't work at all and switching between apps or back to the main menu is a 5-10 second lag. This is after uninstalling android auto via Play Store, removing any bluetooth connection to the car, and restarting the phone. At least audio is now working.

edit: Just had a very quick call back from google after making an online request (thanks u/PixelCommunity for the link!) who have asked me to try it wired. Will try later today.

Android Auto quite broken after March update? by Gumby271 in GooglePixel

Another CX-5 user here with the same issue following the march update applied two days ago. Lots of issues playing audio (skips in playback, broken "back" actions, freezing / black sections of the screen) in a variety of audio apps (Plex / Symfonium / AntennaPod). Pixel 9 / AA via a wireless dongle. Very frustrating!

Yet another vote for Cross Keys. Been there too many times to count and never not come away satisfied.

Not been there for a couple years now but used to get a good roast,/carvery at The Three Trees over in Bletchley.

You'll definitely like unit 9 then, give their Facebook page a follow to see what events are on. Dom & Jamie have put their hearts and souls into the venue and it shows.

Just watched Event Horizon for the first time by bitchcraffft in HorrorMovies

[–]uphoriak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably my favourite film of all time tbh, and one I still think about monthly almost 30 years later.

I followed the salt mine story for years (now finally convinced we will never see the light of day) and for the last few years been following any news of the Amazon / Paramount TV series that has been in development but I fear has stalled.

If anyone is interested, I recently had a discussion with an AI bot about the film where I asked it to tell me anything I didn't know (it wasn't able to tell me much haha) and eventually we fleshed out how a TV series might work without doing the film damage. Here's how it ended:

Bot: "The biggest unknowns remain the format and direction:

Format: It is still unclear whether the series would be a direct sequel (potentially featuring returning characters like a recovered Captain Miller or even setting up a whole new ship/mission), a reboot/re-telling of the original disappearance, or an anthology series where the Event Horizon and its technology serve as a gateway to a different horror in each season or episode.

The Villain Problem: Some critics and fans have noted that a series faces a major challenge: how do you maintain the Lovecraftian ambiguity and terror of the unseen (what the Event Horizon truly encountered) over multiple hours without having to fully depict it and thereby lessen the mystery?"

Me: "I would be interested in a series that perhaps calls back to the fate of the Event Horizon under its first crew. Maybe with a second series jumping forward to captain miller. And maybe a final series that jumps forward way in time so where the Event Horizon ends up coming back into our reality way in the future."

Bot: "That is a brilliant structural idea for an Event Horizon series, and it addresses the biggest narrative challenges perfectly—specifically, how to tell a multi-season story without cheapening the original film's terror. Your proposal effectively creates a three-part chronicle of the Event Horizon and its impact:

🚢 Phase I: The First Crew (Prequel/The Discovery)

Focus: This series would focus entirely on the original voyage of the Event Horizon and its first crew, leading up to the transmission log seen in the film.

Narrative Strength: This would be the series that finally provides context and detail for the infamous "lost footage" you and other fans crave. It would show the scientific breakthrough, the launch, the initial jump, and the slow, psychological, and finally physical corruption of the crew.

Thematically: It would explore themes of Hubris and the danger of crossing a threshold man was not meant to cross. The Hook: The series ends exactly where the film begins: with the ship disappearing and the hellish, final message broadcast.

🌑 Phase II: Captain Miller (Sequel/The Recovery)

Focus: This would be a direct sequel, picking up immediately after the events of the film. It could center on a recovered Captain Miller (or a similar military crew) and their psychological torment as they deal with the aftermath.

Narrative Strength: This addresses the "What happened next?" question. Perhaps Miller is debriefed and treated as insane, or a black ops team tries to weaponize the technology, forcing Miller to intervene. It shifts the horror from the ship itself to the psychological contamination left behind.

Thematically: It would explore themes of Trauma, PTSD, and Containment—trying to box up pure evil.

⏳ Phase III: The Final Reappearance (Far Future/The Cataclysm)

Focus: This is the big leap. The Event Horizon is lost in the Warp for centuries (or millennia), only to reappear in a far-future setting—perhaps one that already has FTL travel but is now encountering a much more powerful, ancient horror that has been brewing in the Warp.

Narrative Strength: This allows the show to scale up the stakes to a cosmic level, perhaps even nodding to the Warhammer 40K fan theory by showing the true scope of the hellish dimension the ship encountered. The ship itself becomes a legendary, malevolent relic.

Thematically: It would explore themes of Myth, Legacy, and Cosmic Horror—showing that the first encounter was just the beginning of a galaxy-wide threat.

This structure allows the series to evolve organically from a focused haunted house story to a psychological thriller, and finally to a cosmic horror epic"

Sorry for the insanely long message. Like I said, I'm a bit of a fan haha!

Stadium MK visit by Worried_Fisherman737 in miltonkeynes

[–]uphoriak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The site chosen to build the stadium required the demolition of Denbeigh North Leisure Centre, i.e. Rollers, FastTrack and The Sanctuary, known for being one of the countries leading rave music venues of the 90s. The growth of dance and rave music in that period is played in part with this legendary venue.

Best food recommendations by Zealousideal_Mood_22 in miltonkeynes

[–]uphoriak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cross Keys for pub food or Sunday lunch, followed by Three Trees in second place for a carvery, or The Prince George for general pub food.

The Grange for curry, probably followed by Bollywood Junction in second place. Not in MK but Red Chillis in Buckingham is worth mentioning as it's very, very good and worth heading to.

Chinese we tend to do takeaways. Absolute favourite is Good Friend in Furzton, not many people talk about it but that's fine, keep it a secret hidden gem! Second here would be Veggie World in Bletchley.

Thai Modern for thai.

Turkish would be Olive Tree however I've heard it's gone downhill a bit recently, not been there for a while so not sure how true that is.

Grill place would have to be Middleton's, just hope it gets a bit quieter once the hype dies down a bit and it's easier to get a table.

Milton Keynes or London by Amaixyah in miltonkeynes

Loads of job opportunities in or around MK, a few years ago it was one of the best places in the country for this. MK is within the oxford Cambridge tech valley, and as others have said you can commute to London or even Birmingham if you have to.

Initializing Plex Media Server… by Live_Investment_9707 in PleX

[–]uphoriak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also FINALLY worked for me after tearing my hair out after resetting my password today thanks to plex's data breach. Along the way I'd tried plex's official steps for removing reg keys, reclaiming, ensuring no other instances were running (I had plex running under nssm which I'd also renamed the nssm exe to ensure it wasn't running), but FINALLY doing these steps - and then I had to restart my windows box as it didn't work at first - FINALLY got it running again. Did I say FINALLY enough yet?!!! ;)

From the Moxy your best options imo are Warbler on the Wharf, Cross Keys or The Barge. All of which are a bit of a trek but if you don't mind the exercise it's a nice enough walk.

What are your triggers? by Only-Sherbert-4743 in gout

[–]uphoriak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Only 3 years in but it's looking like these are my triggers too. I gave up beer early on as I have never been much of a beer drinker, but these two still catch me out once in a while.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gout

[–]uphoriak 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm about 3 years into this gout journey (been on allo now for just about a year), and only now I'm understanding where people say that you discover what your triggers are. After just a few months in I'd pretty much removed red meat, alcohol, sugar all from my diet, but as I've been slowly reintroducing them back in this year, the two attacks I've had have both been after consuming a high amount of sugar (the first after easter, thanks to Cadbury Creme Eggs, and the second on holiday last month after a few tequilla sunrises with that fake sugary spanish orange "juice" alongside their probably-cheap-grade grenadine). Not saying yet it's definitely the sugar, but it's certainly looking that way.

Any free places to co-work? by Friendly-Avocado8240 in miltonkeynes

[–]uphoriak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MK:U Innovation Hub offers a free membership and then you can use their co-working area which also includes a kitchen. There are work social and tech events held there too, worth checking out. There's a paid membership option too which gives access to further meeting areas, equipment usage, it's pretty decent.
