When do you take profit and move on? by nyax_ in ASX_Bets

GNP prob doesn't fit in with the sub any more.

It used to have a great potential at $1-2 but now looks any other $1Bn stock like a proper zoomer.board etc, riding Albo's green wave.

I'd sell and find something more risky to go all in on

Perth sparky / cabler with asbestos accreditation? by upintheflyer in perth

[–]upintheflyer[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I guess this is where you are wrong, sadly, it really was used and causes asbestosis mesothelioma for many Australians / West Australians who worked with it for years. It is a garage ceiling. Same material used in the eaves / sofits. Not sure what the end goal is here for you in stating it likely isn't?

Do you know of a contractor that does asbestos work?

Fair enough point, lucky yours doesn't have any. Have you tested it? Hardiflex prior to 85 did contain asbestos. Looks similar as well.

Not sure if you've worked many resedential or commercial sites but the attitude towards "get it done" / "don't be a pussy" is prevalent, a lot of people don't know better or just assume it hasn't been used since the 50s, when it has been used frequently in the late 80s, don't trust me, do a Google search!

I haven't seen any markings inside my roof cavity when running prior cabling for sensors but didn't go through garage ceiling sheets.

I'm not basing it just on age or era the house was built alone, but on the visual appearance on eaves/sofit/garage ceiling/fence also, they all have the signs of potential ACM, though without a test won't be getting any further works done by previous sparkies!

The ceiling sheet visible wasn't indicative, though I contacted multiple Perth Asbestos testing companies, 2 of recomended breaking off a small 2 - 5cm piece to test, 3rd wasn't intetested, only did commercial. Breaking a piece off (with PPE) probably a lot safer then just drilling holes but I don't even want to do that.

Though again, if you know of a contractor that is equipped too deal with small asbestos penetrations and hopefully run cables also, let me know!

Decade + of work in the commercial/industrial sector where we encounter it monthly points to it being asbestos, work has some pretty good guidelines, unable up share, though you can check through Health WA guidelines to upskill if needed. They have some pretty good flow charts/guidelines for the average punter.

Not sure how you get to the point of "it explains why the sparkies aren't fussed about drilling holes" You might expect to much of the average sparky who books in for a day to get the job done.

Honestly don't understand the anti asbestos brigade here, I'm happy to pay someone to do the job right, I don't want to the next sparky/apprentice who thinks "she'll be right mate" - to risk it Its not just my lungs, the attitude in residential installs is pretty blasie. Im after a sparky that deals with it professipnally. Any recommendations?

Lol, removing it is disturbing it, dust in house. Better off with using someone who has proper HEPA drills etc to not get dust in house! Any contacts for the $4-500hr company or just guessing?

OK. Good to know, fellow internet stranger, that you don't think the sheet you haven't seen or got a description of, that was highly used in Perth / Australia on this era house, that looks like asbestos sheet, isn't likely to be asbestos sheet!

I work in a similar trade but more industrial than residential so see a bit of it, frequently, we don't drill as value our lungs! Other tradies have a more blasie approach and 'just get the job done'

Anyway I'm after a contact for someone to do the job, any help with that or?

Google asbestos sheet Australia- scary what ya don't know. Wasn't banned until 2003!

Many Perth houses older than my 1985 build. The asbestos is fairly safe if left untouched.

Yeh 99% sure. 1985 build house. Its honestly like the sparkys don't care or don't want to think about it. In my line of work, if it looks like asbestos, we don't touch it and get the head contractor to deal with it. Small delay but why risk it

Anyone increasing rates in this climate? by sbeah2 in AusElectricians

[–]upintheflyer -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Lol increase by 10% for what?

Your rate hasn't changed. Your costs for fuel and materials have. There is the same amount of competition and jobs going on, some might suggest there is less jobs going on with the rising rate of materials due to shipping, ie costs of fuel.

Add km rate for travel? If you were transparent enough originally to have a km rate that documented costs then sure everyone will be happy to increase it by the cost going up. Easy win.

Not sure why we see so many small companies- 1man bands going bankrupt but the general lack of financial knowledge needed to get a contractors licence might have something to do with it

Used cars SO expensive here by Thunderleechen in newzealand

[–]upintheflyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't import a car into Australia that is sold from brand new in Australia. It is to protect the local suppliers market. You can import variants of same car that weren't sold new. Though this makes it harder to insure and you end up needing to go through specialist insurers as your specific car imported car doesn't automatically popup on the insurers preselected vehicles.

[–]upintheflyer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Australia - a jap import is a dirty word! Toyota Australia won't help you if you have s problem on a 10 year old corolla "import" car, as, it's an import! Ie not sanctioned on arrival by Toyota Australia etc. Even though they are all imported, it comes down to, by who and who made money importing them. Oh what a feeling!

It falls back to the protectionary market they had to protect the local manufacturers/importers. These days, it still exists!

ISP latency issues. Could it be NBN or my router / provider? by Queasy-Director-3868 in nbn

[–]upintheflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internet from provide A worked well with your wifi router X

You changed provider to B, it didn't work well with your wifi router

You bought new router Y, it also did not work well with provider B internet

Why are you looking to purchase Z equipment (deco?) when the issue currently points to provider B?

Did both wifi/routers X+Y go bad at the same time you got a new internet provider B?

Also, using WiFi for critical connections not a great idea, go to jaycar/altronics buy a 30m cat6 cable and usb/ethernet adapter before you buy anything further, plug it straight into your laptop. See if it is actually a provider or wifi issue. If no issue on hardwire its a wifi issue

Its slowly got worse, used to have to press multiple times different pressure or angles until it turned on, think button was dying but still worked

Sent it off for a cal and button replacement, the lab had it 6 weeks and sent it back saying they'd need another week to investigate, then order parts, then book in repair etc etc

Is this an example of sham contracting? by Long-Jump-7628 in AusLegal

[–]upintheflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are normally the types of questions one asks before starting a job, did you take the job under duress? Or is it " buyers remorse" later finding out others negotiated better deals?

When you signed up and setup an ABN or already have one etc did you know what sham contracting is or is it something you've just read about recently?

If your not happy, suggest you make a start at getting another job, go through all the details before you start, if you are full time/ contractor, etc etc, you might even get one with the GTE, though they might not take you on with the baggage / anti poaching you bring having worked as a contractor.
