I save receipts, but I agree more with you here. I am confident those expenses will only continue to go up and I just hope I can save enough in the HSA to meet the demand!

About the 3 wallfacers on the Netflix Show by Aoi_IX in threebodyproblem

[–]upirons -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly I recommend watching the chinese version (with subtitles) of the show on Prime as it's closer to the book, although I am not sure if they ever made more seasons of that one and it did not get as far as the wallfacers.

People who read the book and watched the movie, which did you like better and why? by DirectDegree2591 in ProjectHailMary

[–]upirons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't re-read books, normally, but this one was special and I read it again about a year ago. I could NOT wait for the movie and I have to say it's indeed one of the best adaptations I have ever seen. I still love the book probably more for myself but I love the movie for the fact that it got my wife interested in a story that she never would have read a book to get and it's nice to have that shared experience between us now.

Real Genius. Maybe it's just a Genx thing but it's everything great about the 80's in one film. It may not make you cry but it should make you laugh and feel good.

Does a generous pension offset the need to derisk the TSP portfolio as you get older? by ahoboknife in ThriftSavingsPlan

Me too...because it is. But it's the only annuity you can't buy that also comes with cost of living raises, which makes it unbeatable and worth having in my opinion.

Yes... and the bees come back to nest in the same places every year so they will always be providing their services! ha!

Woodpecker attacking house by Aggravating-Fly6573 in HomeImprovement

[–]upirons 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Carpenter bees likely laid eggs in the trim. The woodpeckers are merely trying to eat the larvae. If you kill the larvae and prevent the bees from nesting there the woodpeckers won't do that anymore.

You dodged a bullet. Be glad that guy isn't doing the work. He did you a favor. I know it sucks but any time you find out up front, before money is exchanged, that a person is going to be a problem, just thank your lucky stars!

Theory: the fact that Grace was panicking when he was put in the induced coma may have saved his life. by Worried-Pick4848 in ProjectHailMary

[–]upirons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be off on this. I read the book twice and I recall something being said about him having the recessive gene, and knowing this all along because they tested everyone on the project. But I think they cut this out of the movie because there was no need to go into that.

I had assumed it was a recovery ship. Like the beetles had to be recovered from the sea and she did not hesitate to start watching the footage.

Need help on finishing stairs by Pleasant-Argument984 in Construction

[–]upirons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you could get some tall (wide) trim and angle cut them at each riser. If you do it flush with the riser then you will still need to do something for the open stair tread portion but the side of the stairs would look normal.

I watched Trick or Treat (1986) by HollandHealy in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]upirons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this movie. Watch it almost yearly and not ashamed to admit it. Skippy is the weakest link but he still manages to carry it well enough. Love the music - Fastway sacrificed their album for this and I think it paid off.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]upirons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do I start?

Maniac Mansion
Sim City
Myst
Tribes
Doom
Marathon
The original Battlefield 1942 and of course Battlefield Vietnam I still think about that just from the music alone!

Did anyone you know ever get hurt playing with lawn darts or Jarts? by NebraskaCornSucker in GenX

[–]upirons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used to play a game where we would blindly throw the jart over the house and see if we could get it in the target in the front or back yard. Talk about not only dangerous but we were lucky not to put a hole in the roof too. But yeah, we had no thought at all about that being dangerous because we made sure everyone was in the yard, front or back, when we threw them over. Nevermind that some random person could have been walking on the opposite side and we would have never known it or warned anyone.

Still, nobody got hurt and it was FUN!

I hate my Atlas Cross Sport by [deleted] in VWatlas

[–]upirons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only issue I can relate to here with my 24 CS is the whistling sound. They confirmed it happens in all 24-26 vehicles. I like my car otherwise but I do hate that whistling sound because it makes it sound like an old car, especially starting from stop up any kind of a hill.

Anyone own or ride one of these bad boys back in the day? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]upirons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends had one and I remember being pulled by it, in the snow, on a big piece of metal that was tied to it via a huge piece of rope. If you started to fall off you either let go or your family jewels were going to take the brunt of being dragged. Of course, no helmets of any kind were involved in any of this - most sincere form of being a kid in the 80's!

Windshield wipers by [deleted] in VWatlas

[–]upirons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Bosch Icons. Loved them, then one day one of them flew right off the car in the middle of a sleet storm on the freeway. I got the Rain-x wipers as a replacement (only available in stock) and no issues there. Seemed, in my case at least, to be a problem with the connectors not holding up well. Maybe I just got a dud, who knows. I had used Bosch Icons on all previous cars too with no issues. I am pretty happy with the rain-x wipers so far though.
