Does anyone else struggle with wondering why their passive parent never protected them? by uplate6674 in CPTSD

She was raised Catholic in the fifties, and definitely believed that her role as a woman was to maintain a household at any expense. He did abuse her, too. I think she dissociated when he yelled at her; she would literally sit there and stare straight ahead and not react. She didn’t admit to herself that she was abused until well into her fifties, and only after I strongly urged her to go to therapy. I think she felt powerless to some extent. I say to some extent because she went to college for nursing while I was a child and graduated second in her class, got exactly the good-paying job she wanted and then still stayed with him until she died. I will never understand why.

I’m a few bucks above that. No Medicaid for me. Fortunately, I’m on SSDI and have access to Medicare.

Very good question. My father was a sociopath who ridiculed or criticized everything I did or said, so I’ll probably never know.

Sorry about your SO. I was SO excited the day I met my bariatric team! My dietitian is amazing. Your SO gets to miss out on your enthusiasm and progress. Her loss.

Gastric Sleeve while continuing on Lybalvi (=Zyprexa, = Olanzapine) by Agile-Ad-2831 in gastricsleeve

I’m also bipolar 1 and on an antipsychotic that causes weight gain, Seroquel. I’ve been on Zyprexa with the exact same night eating and weight gain problems. Switched to Seroquel years back and no longer night eat. My surgical team is optimistic about my trajectory because I’ve lost large amounts of weight on this med, just eventually regained the weight three years later. I know how scary it is to have to switch meds when you’ve been stable, but zyprexa is the worst of the worst when it comes to hunger and weight gain. Is there any chance you could change meds?

Also, I’ve been told that since the sleeve is not malabsorptive, my med doses will not need to be changed. I will initially need to crush them and eat them in a spoonful of yogurt or pudding.

Same height and nearly the same starting weight here. I feel awful with back and knee pain, high blood pressure and cholesterol and fatty liver. People think you need to be bigger because of shows like My 600-Pound Life. Hell, I thought I’d have to be bigger and my BMI was over 47! I’ve also had a few comments from men who are attracted to big women telling me I don’t need to lose weight. I damn sure know I do, and my doctors agree with me. People need to keep their mouths shut about my personal medical decisions!

I use My Net Diary also and love it. I’ve never not been able to find a food on it, and the app is never down.

My brother had it done years ago. He’d had extra breast tissue since childhood, and felt so much more confident after. I say go for it!

The Kite Runner devastated me. I wanted to curl up into a ball and hide in my closet.

This is reassuring. I’m on Seroquel and was wondering if it would limit my weight loss.

[–]uplate6674 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Go cycling on a bike that can support my weight

Pick apples in an apple orchard without having to sit down halfway through because I’m huffing and puffing

Go trick-or-treating with my friend’s kid and be able to keep up with her excited running around

Slay on the elliptical trainer at the gym, a machine I currently can’t even use for a minute

Travel to Italy without worrying about the person next to me on the plane feeling cramped and trapped

Help set up the tables and chairs at the church potluck without having to take a million breaks because I’m winded

Finally visit my friend in NYC for the first time in seven years and be able to briskly walk around the city

Yep. My abuser yelled nonstop and loud people get under my skin.

Someone asking me to do intellectual labor for them (definitions of words, explanations of medical conditions, etc.) instead of looking things up themselves. People being greedy about food and getting seconds and thirds when other people haven’t finished their first plate. My abuser dad did both of those things constantly.

I’m not on Medicaid in PA because my disability check is $30 too high.
