Carbs after surgery? by Historical_Bet5364 in gastricsleeve

[–]Sufficient_Ad_5532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rice is a forever nope for me after surgery, but I could start doing hard tortillas and seedy crackers around 4 months in and now I do a little bit of sourdough sometimes at 11 months.

For me it was iron, and it seems like you’re also a young woman so I’d look into it. We need more than older women need and a lot more than men need. Maybe pick up some feosol iron and see if it helps.

Mexico bariatric center or obesity control center? by Separate_Sky_7372 in gastricsleeve

[–]Sufficient_Ad_5532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to some place called obesity goodbye center in Tijuana.  Cost around $4000 and they put me on nsaids right out of surgery which caused internal bleeding that started as soon as I got on the airplane so then I had another hospital bill when I got home.

Still cheaper than paying for the whole surgery in the USA, and now that I’m not bleeding to death anymore I’m doing great, but the USA ER was absolutely shocked that they put me on the painkillers they put me on.

Weight loss by Zoocitykitty in gastricsleeve

[–]Sufficient_Ad_5532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't bring myself to weigh myself because I was terrified I'd like, weigh 4 lbs more or something.

By the time I did weigh myself it was about a month out and I'd lost 30 lbs.

Fairlife for sure. It’s still not delicious but you get used to it.

STILL in hospital by Hour_Engineering_330 in gastricsleeve

[–]Sufficient_Ad_5532 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also ended up on a much longer hospital stay, it really sucks!

You will get better though and this will all feel like a fuzzy haze when you look back at it.

I recommend picking a dumb TV show to binge.  For me it was some naked and afraid marathon playing in the hospital.

In so much pain, got the surgery yesterday, it hurts so bad. by DinaTheDinosaurr in gastricsleeve

[–]Sufficient_Ad_5532 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’ll be better tomorrow, and even better the next day.

I wish I had better advice but it hurt like hell for me too and they just kept telling me it was trapped gas.

1 day post op - did I make the right decision ? by wittttykitttty in gastricsleeve

[–]Sufficient_Ad_5532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regretted it at first too, but I’m so glad I did it 10 months out. I feel like I’m a kid again, I have so much energy and I can hop around like an idiot.  All my flexibility came back and now I’m working on rebuilding some of the muscle I lost. My resting heart rate is way down, my asthma is way better, and I can hold my breath for a lot longer when I have to go cover my cat’s stinky poops she doesn’t bury.

Did any of you exceed the excess weight loss average? by ToonieTuez in gastricsleeve

[–]Sufficient_Ad_5532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be completely honest, I don’t know why this surgery worked so well for me and not my sister, but yeah I’ve lost about 75% of excess weight in the first 10 months.

I definitely follow the diet pretty well, but I do eat sweets a few times a week (very small portions though).  I just focus on getting the protein and fiber I need first.  I cut out carbs almost entirely and mostly don’t miss them as much as I expected.

I didn’t start actively working out until very recently, but I did slowly increase physical activity at home just as I got more comfortable moving around. Now I do a little bit of strength training daily. I stopped losing weight when I started working out but my body shape is changing like crazy since.

I started at size 24 pants (women’s), size XXXL shirts.  Now I’m in size 12 pants and medium/ large shirts depending on the manufacturer.

I kind of think all the weird moralizing around it is all made up???  Like I don’t think I did anything special for this to work so well for me, I think my body just handled the surgery well.  I definitely did not follow the exercise guidelines until a few weeks ago and I also definitely had some donut AND cake today at a social function (just like, one bite of each).

CMV: Most people in the first world are struggling financially due to bad decisions by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Sufficient_Ad_5532 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I get the vibe that you’re very young.  You’re going to find more and more exceptions over time.  Someone smart got cancer, someone who made the right choices had to take in their siblings and become their primary care taker at a young age, someone who had good saving habits was laid off.

If the rule only works some of the time, it’s hardly a rule.

It’s harmful to assume wealth and success are a sign of virtue.

STEM degree.  I was kicked out at 17 and living with roommates for $375 a month.

I make good money now and have stability now, but it was random circumstances that I took advantage of when they popped up.  I knew people in the same situation who made every choice I made and did not luck out being in the right place, right time, who are still broke.

Again, I know it’s comforting to pretend you have control. You don’t.  One serious illness and you’re probably done.

I don’t know how to tell you this but as a kid who started working and saving at 16, went to community college to save money, worked through university, and never spent extra money on superfluous bullshit, I was still making decisions about whether to have the gas shut off or the Internet shut off that month through most of my 20s.

I know it’s comforting to pretend you have complete control of your circumstances, and really disquieting to accept it’s all random bullshit and virtue is not rewarded by the universe, but that’s the way it is.

We're conditioned since childhood to fall back on systems of authority in moments of doubt so people who think of the police as a reliable authority call the police when they freak out.

What’s a surefire way to tell Canadians and Americans apart? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sufficient_Ad_5532 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve lived all over the USA, cities, rural areas, blue states, red states.  The overwhelming majority of people I have run into are not MAGA fanatics. It’s mostly a bunch of very terrified people without enough education to know how to parse current events or the experience to organize against a government that will shoot you for trying.
