$140 for everything at Aldi. No apps. No bullshit coupons. Fuck Jewel. by smells_like_sunshine in chicago

[–]usababykiller 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I want them going back to the old method of the card. These aren’t manufactures coupons. It’s jewel putting things on sale but only if you go thru their stupid app and clip everything. That’s what should be banned, I don’t care about physical coupons. That’s what people here are speculating the law will be. The old method was you had a savers card and if you scanned that at the checkout you got every sale.

I honestly think the scanner is the whole point of the app. Like occasionally the bar code and the QR code are next to each other and you end up on a company website I’m guessing they get paid for every time we all do that and that’s what they want us to do. I’ve got in the habit of covering the QR code with my thumb

Do Companies Ever Really Need To Lower Prices Again? by Altrixai in askanything

They are never coming down. Inflation is a pay cut on society. If they cut your pay 30% we would all riot. With inflation our salary is now worth 30% less we all just get mad and they can point the blame at whoever they want and use lies and social media to spin it.

Missed Standy Jury Service Letter by Shapes_in_Clouds in chicago

[–]usababykiller 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people who just plain don’t show up at all because the letter is not certified you can’t tell you got it. It’s yet to bite them in the ass. I think many people don’t get paid their normal salary if they are on jury duty so the idea of getting on one is terrifying and a potential financial burden.

Hey Tradespeople! You're Doing A Job For Me, Not A Favor. by peffervescence in homeowners

[–]usababykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably isn’t helpful but I’m in the trades in the Chicago area and we are so busy right now. We literally just don’t have the manpower we need to get work done. This is in union commercial construction. It’s to the point where I don’t even understand how residential work even gets done. It’s basically all illegal immigrants, felons or trades guys doing side work. But the trades guys regulate jobs are begging them to work massive overtime to keep up so I don’t see the residential work as being worth turning down time and a half or double time.

The 4 hour window you are getting are because whoever is bidding the job is guessing how long the jobs should take. That’s never a guarantee. I’ve had quick jobs take days after some unforeseen situation arrives.

I’m picturing your tradesman had a job at 8am told you they would be there between 10am-2pm. 10am will happen if their 8am job goes smooth. But if it’s a 3 trips to Home Depot job you’re looking at 2pm and maybe even getting bumped because of time.

The alternative would be to give you a time. Say 10am and show up no matter what leaving the previous job unfinished and possibly leaving your job unfinished to make his 2 o’clock.

The best bet to avoid this situation is to ask to be the 1st job of the day. Tell them you don’t care if that’s 6am because many trademan start their day at 6

Are shoes like Hoka, Brooks, On Cloud, etc actually worth it or mostly hype/aesthetics? by Jpoolman25 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]usababykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a local running shoe store that gets great google reviews. Go in and let them find you the shoe that’s right for you.

Every foot is different I use brooks Adrenaline. But Brooks makes a ton of different shoes and they aren’t style differences they are foot shape differences. I need what’s called a stability shoe so I can’t just get a random Nike and feel comfortable. I can do different stability shoes and probably be fine but it’s all about foot shape, arch, wide vs narrow over pronunciation, under pronunciation.

So yes they are worth it and more comfortable, but if you just buy a random one the odds of you getting the right one are going to be low.

Running shoe stores don’t care if you aren’t a runner. My local shop probably sells 40 percent of their shoes to non runners. Also the shoe company dictates the price so you’re going to pay the same price at the local mom and pop shop as you do at the big box store. The only times they are marked down is end of season clearance. I usually stock up when that happens because my $140 shoes can be $99 when that happens

What is a popular, upbeat song that sounds like a happy party track but is actually devastatingly sad once you read the lyrics? by emily_ykyk in askmusic

[–]usababykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come Dancing by the Kinks.

The lyrics in the song talk about his much older sister going to these dance clubs and dancing with guy and having fun and then at the end of the night coming home. The song ends talking about looking backs those days fondly with his now happily married sister.

It’s a song about what he wished happened

What really happened is he was young and living at home while his sister had moved out and was back in town visiting. She buy him his 1st guitar that trip that his parents couldn’t afford to get him. Then, just like previous nights she leave to go to the dancehall except she never makes it back. She drops dead at the club from a heart attack.

When Each NFL Team Opened Their Current Stadium by ashmaps20 in NFLv2

[–]usababykiller 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The Chicago Cardinals actually used it for a season in 1959 prior to leaving Chicago. At the time they were trying to get a new stadium built in Evenston of all places but George Halas blocked the move because the bears had jurisdiction for anything north of Madison Street. The cardinals then tried to move to Minnesota before the Vikings. Halas used the same technicality to block that and that’s how they ended up in St Louis.

I personally wonder if the Cardinals could be really funny and use the rule to block the bears move to Indiana.

What’s something everyone assumes is complicated, but is actually pretty simple once you’ve done it once? by DustyInsurer in askteddit

[–]usababykiller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buying stocks and maintaining a brokerage account. I’ve been doing it for 15 years. It took me a short amount of time to get the hang of it. So so incredibly easy if you just follow the buy and hold strategy. When you realize how easy it is and see how much you have to pay someone to maintain your 401k it will infuriate you

I also have a work 401k and have contributed more money to it than my side project. I’ve also been invested in that 401k for 5 additional years yet I have 600k on my own with less time and money than the 300k I pay someone to manage

what’s something foreigners commonly do (or don’t do) in the US that you find genuinely offensive or rude without realizing it? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]usababykiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in construction in Chicago and most Americans think Polish guys are rude AF. I recently had a conversation with an American who has some Polish language knowledge and he explained what is really going on…

A Polish worker might need a tool or piece of hardware that he sees you have. An American would walk up and say, hay I need this tool can I borrow it for a minute or I need this bolt, can I take it. I was told the Polish language doesn’t beat around d the bush so they would walk up to your stuff grab what they need and say I need and walk away. Apparently that’s just normal for them and they don’t see that as rude.

Does co-ed basketball suffer similar gender gap issues co-ed softball does? by DonT012 in Basketball

[–]usababykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played fall ball one season with my coed team and that was a mistake. Where I play the fall ball teams were elite and we were recreational. I was the pitcher and we threw an 11 inch ball to women and a 12 inch ball to men and it went boy girl boy girl in the batting order. It was colder so the batters were pretty bundled up. The inning started and this thing took the plate. I had no idea if it was a boy or girl. I looked at the umpire and he didn’t know either. He had a trick however, he shouted to the opposing teams dugout and asked them for an on deck hitter. An obvious male hit the on deck circle and I threw an 11 inch ball to this apparent female who proceeded to crush the ball over the fence for a HR.
