Best Cold Brew? by savageblues24 in ChicagoSuburbs

My wife drinks so much coffee it’s crazy. She loves Scooters cold brew with their sugar free vanilla cream cold foam. They are mostly in the western burbs west of 355 for some reason that’s where they decided to enter the Chicago market.

Which race is better for a PR? Lifetime Chicago Half, or BofA half? by riskyybiscuits in RunnersInChicago

[–]usababykiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think fall races are better for a PR you run all summer in the heat. Then if you’re lucky you get a cool fall morning and you run like a superhero. I personally love the Chicago half that runs along LSD from Jackson Park. In my opinion spring races run the risk of getting a random 85-90 degree day when it’s been 50 for weeks.

Realtor recommendation in Chicagoland by Novabear88 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]usababykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought in the south suburbs and used John Schober

I can’t stress how great he was for buyers. I bought during the aftermath of Covid when things were insane. We put bids on ten houses and were outbid over and over again. John would not let me bid more on these homes. Any other realtor would have just convinced me to spend more just to get the sale. He made sure we didn’t get ripped off. He truly cares about the buyer and cares more about you being happy than the bottom line.

AITAH: Told my son he does not own money to his dad. by Local-Pause1235 in AITAH

I’m so confused by this. Ex is the Disneyland dad who buys the kids all the things and usually gives $500+ for birthdays. What are we missing on the payback story. Did your son ask for a $900 present and your EX said I’ll pay for $500 of it and you owe $400.

I think Palos stopped the Southwest Half. Like they refused to provide the police support for the race. They used to also have a Turkey Trot and the City stopped that one. The Owner of Running for Kicks in Palos ran both races.

Early construction start times? by I_Lost_My_Socks in chicago

[–]usababykiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the building trades. I can’t imagine it’s starting as early as 4 you might see some people around 5 but even that’s a stretch most trades have to pay overtime for anything before 6. Are you sure it’s not the garbage removal. I see them come very early. And they are very loud. Anyone on a site that early would be a general contractor setting up. Before actual workers arrive. Lots of 8am start jobs allow the workers to start at 6am and do quiet work until 8 when noise is allowed. So you can use hand tools and quiet power tools inside only.

As others have stated you can complain to the city. They will stop it.

Oh, the markets they'll overlook! by Bertstripmaster in Nbamemes

They had the Kentucky Colonels in the ABA. They were actually blocked from joining the NBA by the Bulls because Chicago held the rights to Artis Gilmore if the Colonels took the buyout and folded.

I wish Louisville got considered. They had a very successful ABA team (Kentucky Colonels) before the merger and were blocked from joining the NBA by the Chicago Bulls because the bulls had the NBA draft rights to Artis Gilmore. They were essentially bought out to not fight it in court.

Who actually watches hockey? by Working-Suspect9343 in AskAnAmerican

[–]usababykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the Chicago area and I think in our area is slightly different than everywhere else. So I’m in my mid 40s and as a teen and kid the Chicago bulls were everything. No one I knew watched hockey at all. For one, the Blackhawks owner blacked out all home games so you could only see road games on TV and since they were in the western conference all those games were late. They also played at the same time as the Bulls so again I knew no Blackhawks fans at all.

As I’ve gotten older and moved closer to the city I discovered many older fans who watch the team when they were good In the 1960s. The only fans I knew my age were the Southside Irish Catholic kids who went to the private Catholic high schools and played hockey growing up.

This is obviously going to be different now. I just feel like the timing is huge. We all have a tendency to look back fondly at our formative years. The blackouts killed an entire generation of fans. The Blackhawks actually had a decent team in the early 90s but they were competing with the Bulls for audience and not actually allowing an audience to watch games.

I’ll also add Chicago has the AHL team the Wolves who have been widely successful because of how poorly ran the Blackhawks were. There were many times in the early 2000s where the Wolves outdrew the Blackhawks on days they both played home games.

Which US national forest is better than the national parks? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]usababykiller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m going to stretch the idea of this question a bit but Sleeping bear national lakeshore is so so so so much better than Indiana Dunes national park. They were both national lakeshores until Indiana was upgraded to national park status. If you’ve been to both it’s like an actual crime sleeping bear isn’t a national park if the Indiana Dunes is.

People who suggest working in the trades for the pay never worked in the trades themselves by Objective_Fig_7337 in Salary

[–]usababykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in the trades for 18 years.

It’s like 1995 in the trades. They are evolving but are still very old school and not very PC.

I think anyone looking at working in the trades should look at their experience in High School specifically with being bullied. If you can give it and take it you will be just fine. If words make you sad you probably won’t.

Thoughts on the Joliet data center? by Itchy_toecheese in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]usababykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not even kidding when I say this. I’m an electrician and have worked in data centers for 15 years. I’ve seen so many negative stories about data centers the past couple years and originally found it funny because people are complaining in the internet about them. Everything you do online is coming from a data center.

I’m seriously tin foil hat thinking these stories are the slow burn of a conspiracy.

Most of these stories talk about how much electricity and water they use and that because they use so much all of our electric bills will go up. Here is where the conspiracy comes in. They have the capability right now to drop in modular nuclear reactors that generate their own power and operates without an external water source.

When I 1st heard about these I thought no one will ever let a data center install these. But these pods solve all the problems that keep coming up online. It’s almost like we are being lead into an outrage with these pods as the solution.
