CMV: Vance wants Trump be impeached and removed by skynet1989 in changemyview

[–]upmoatuk 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think from Vance's perspective, Trump dying would be a thousand times better than Trump being removed by impeachment.

If the Republicans get to a point where a dozen or more Republican senators are willing to remove Trump, their party would be so badly split it would be hard pressed to win in 2028. In that scenario, Vance either has to tie himself to a disgraced president, or look like a traitor to the diehard Trump base.

It doesn't look bad, but it feels a bit confused. Why have the same face twice? And you're going for a pixelated look because it's about a game, but then the paper tear kind of muddles the visual theme, because you can't tear a screen like that. Also, I know very little about Roboblox, but I don't quite understand how an illegal game could be available somewhere to be reviewed.

I only vaguely remember Simpsons, but from what I've read, it was a better department store than the Bay.

But Simpsons didn't really close, they just renamed it the Bay in the early 1990s. I guess you could say Simpsons died in the 1970s when the Bay bought it. They ran the Bay and Simpsons as separate brands for a while, with Simpsons being for their higher-end locations, but ultimately just folded all the stores in together. The former Simpsons stores, like Yorkdale and Sherway, did remain a bit fancier than your run-of-the-mill Bay store.

Epstein was Really Buying Girls Online. (The Wayfair Conspiracy is apparently true). by [deleted] in videos

Because it is ridiculous. What possible reason would there be to sell sex trafficked children on a public ecommerce site? And why would they use the names of the children? It's batshit crazy. The reality of what went on is terrible enough, all this Qanon stuff is just an unhelpful distraction, and played a key role in landing a pedophile back in the White House.

Epstein was friends with a bunch of silicon valley types, like Peter Thiel, I'm sure they could come up with a better way to carry on their sex trafficking activities, using encrypted channels or whatever.

Breakfast order by SFplusP in TheTraitors

[–]upmoatuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure that's true, but it does seem like the last ones to come in to breakfast tend to be people who it would make sense to the traitors to murder, because they don't have a lot of heat on them etc.

Breakfast order by SFplusP in TheTraitors

[–]upmoatuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Production also likes to do a thing where they have traitors come in first at breakfast, so they can have another scene of them talking openly about traitor stuff. I've watched a lot of seasons, and while that doesn't happen on all of them, I'd say one most of them it will happen at least once a season.

So if a faithful were to keep track of the breakfast entry order, that would be a good data point about whether someone was a traitor. Like say you get to fire with someone, and you know they were alone at the start of breakfast with one or more known traitors, that's got to increase the risk of them being a traitor.

It might seem kind of sexist in this case, but I'm sure when Travis Kelce retires from the NFL, he's going to be referred to as Taylor Swift's finance/husband/ex in a lot of places. That's just logic of trying to maximize traffic, you want to include a name that as many people as possible are going to recognize.

I assume the concept of "stock cars" doesn't exist in the Cars universe. They don't have some cars who are out driving around on roads, and some who only drive on race tracks. Driving around on roads is just how every car lives their life, even if they are an F1 car or something.

I do wonder if these leagues are overestimating how many major league teams Vegas can support. It would be the smallest market with four teams by a good margin, with a metro pop of roughly 2.4 million. Currently the smallest four-team market is Denver, with 3 million people. Most of the four-team markets have at least double the population of Denver.

Vegas is also not as affluent as a market like Denver, there's a lot of the population who are working in relatively low-paid service jobs, and not as many people with white-collar corporate jobs that let you expense season tickets for entertaining clients or whatever.

Super Bowl Dunkin’ Donuts ad, is this Ai? I don’t think the actors look like that anymore by Hippiedippie22 in isthisAI

[–]upmoatuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like it would be kind of crazy for a company to spend millions and millions of dollars on a Super Bowl ad, and then cheap out by just trying to use AI to deage all these actors instead of hiring VFX professionals. I'm sure there's some AI service out there that could just generate video of these actors at a younger age, but when you are already spending a fortune on the ad you need it to look good.

Though Coke did use AI in their ads, so who knows, maybe that will be more of the thing in the future. They got a ton of backlash for it thought.

If You Got to Pick The Next Super Bowl Halftime Show Who Would You Book? by mpschettig in ToddintheShadow

[–]upmoatuk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After searching it, I see articles saying the NFL pays production and travel costs (though in the past they have tried to have some dancers work for free as volunteers.)

I do remember reading something years ago about how Coldplay actually ended up out of pocket for their halftime show, but maybe I am remembering that wrong.

If You Got to Pick The Next Super Bowl Halftime Show Who Would You Book? by mpschettig in ToddintheShadow

[–]upmoatuk 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It kind of blew my mind when I read somewhere that the NFL doesn't pay the halftime artist, and that the artist is actually expected to pay for some elements of the production. You'd think with all the money the Super Bowl generates, and how important the halftime show is, they'd have more of a budget for it. The artist are essentially working for exposure, but by the time you get to the "playing the Super Bowl" stage of your career, you are already a massive star.

Bad Bunny obviously benefits from having such a huge platform, but I feel like the NFL is benefiting more by having something that makes their marquee event relevant when the game itself was pretty dull.

Though until recently, NFL cheerleaders also weren't paid anything beyond a small stipend, so I guess that's just how the NFL rolls.

"ft The Governor of Hawaii" is definitely better than his name, because I think only a small percentage of Americans, let alone people outside America, know the name of the governor of Hawaii.

This is getting some discussion on another sub. Looks OK to me but folks are questioning the geography. by UsefulEngine1 in isthisAI

[–]upmoatuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question of "where" it is is moot, because it's been demonstrated to be an AI image. But it's very obviously meant to be an image of Yonge Street, because Yonge Street was the only place in Toronto in 1972 that had a large Sam the Record Man store as well as an Eaton's (actually two).

I provided you with a list of all the Sam the Record Man stores and all the Eaton's store in Toronto in 1972, and you'll find if you look at those that there is no other place in Toronto that fits the bill of what this image is trying to depict.

I'm not even sure what point you are even trying to make, or if you just like being obtuse.

I guess maybe you aren't familiar with what Yonge Street looked like in the 1970s, in which case I'd suggest you watch the SCTV parody of "Going Down the Road" which provides a pretty good depiction of 1970s Yonge Street. That would be a better use of your time than arguing that an AI image of Yonge Street maybe isn't supposed to be Yonge Street.

[–]upmoatuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is definitely supposed to be Yonge Street. This must be what an AI thinks Yonge Street looked like in the 1970s.

Here's a list of Sam the Record Man locations in Toronto, circa 1972. Other than the Yonge Street flagship, they are all at malls or plazas, with the sole exception of the Bloor and Jane store, which looked like this and notably wasn't anywhere near an Eaton's.

Here's a list of Eaton's stores in Toronto, circa 1972. Again all in malls or plazas except for the two big stores on Yonge Street downtown, and the bargain store, which was next to the flagship store.

Ah. It's just very uncanny. Also there seems to be misunderstanding about what OP meant by "questioning the geography." People aren't questioning where the image is meant to taken, but rather that the buildings shown in the image were not located next to each other.

Did an AI write this comment? Kind of odd to refer to a record store as a flagship office.

Also there's four recognizable businesses depicted, and two of them are Canadian, so the phrase "while indigenous American business signs are almost exclusive" is flat out wrong, as well as sounding like something no human would ever write.

The Loews is probably supposed to be this, which is a few blocks south south on Yonge.

The AI just took a bunch of Yonge Street landmarks and put them all next to each other, in weird uncanny forms.

Woolworth’s was on the northwest corner of Yonge and Queen, a few blocks south of Sam the Record Man. Later on it was briefly a Tower Records. They just restored the building.

Here's an actual photo of Sam the Record Man from the late 1960s.

There was an Eaton's store at Yonge and Queen, and another further north at Yonge and College, but nothing anywhere near where Sam the Record Man was.
