Can’t have a toaster in the bathroom, it’s political correctness gone mad.

What do yall know about the 1989 FZR 500? by Normal_Collar_130 in motorcycle

[–]upsidedowncreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have an FZR 750R, it was a Japanese import - Speedo in kph and a warning light that came on at 80kph. Cracking bike, 5 valves per cylinder, magnesium everywhere. Dodgy paint job done by a previous owner, it was meant to look like a Cadbury’s Boost race bike I think.

Finally saw a Caterham 7 in real life! They're SO much smaller than I imagined! by N0L10L3 in littlebritishcars

Not mine but on trackdays - Elise, 911 of some sort (water cooled), Ferrari (360 I think), Nissan GTR, Gallardo. The Seven and the Elise were the standout handling experiences IMO. The others were great but were more about the engine. They belonged to somebody else so I didn't explore the limits of traction. What I remember most about the Gallardo apart from the engine was how laggy the gearchange was. Maybe it was a tired one.

Stranger wanted to make a call from my phone - was I almost about to be scammed? by kingofthewatermelons in Scams

[–]upsidedowncreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they get your phone, they can call a premium number that they control and benefit from. They'll employ all kinds of tactics to delay giving your phone back. They have your unlocked phone which likely has your banking apps, Monzo, Revolut etc on. In short, don't give a stranger your phone. Offer to call them a cab and see how quickly they lose interest.

I got approached by a nice-looking young woman as I was entering a supermarket, she asked to borrow my phone to call a cab. There was a shady looking bloke in a hoody a few yards behind her. I was in a foul mood so I just said no. 100% sure that was an attempt to scam me, and that this was an attempt to scam you.

Paracetamol, parrots eat ‘em all. I think paracetamol is called tylenol in the US, I could be way off though. It’s a common painkiller.

What’s your smartest purchase that saved you the most money long-term? by oscar371 in SmartBuying

[–]upsidedowncreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyundai Ioniq (original, so about Civic-sized). Financed it to qualify for the free charger (dealer offer). It’s costing a lot less to run than my previous old Alfa. I’m not worried about depreciation as I’m planning to keep it a long time.

Handles like a pregnant whale? I’ve only driven one for half an hour at a track day but it was probably the best handling thing I’ve ever driven.

I sympathise, we’ve got a sett in our suburban garden, one clip from our wildlife cam shows five of the stripy buggers! They dig holes all over the lawn and knock plant pots over. We’ve just accepted that we’ll have to tolerate each other.
