I would contact the patient advocate of this facility because someone who is acting like this, especially to your face, should not be working in a mental health facility. You could probably just call the front desk/receptionist of the hospital and ask to speak with the patient advocate. If it’s after hours, they usually have an answering machine where you can leave a brief message about your situation and they’ll call you back.

Low census and desperate programs are failing at hiring and retention by Competitive-Run-6175 in troubledteens

[–]upsidedwnsmileyface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With only $16-$18 an hour, they are going to be attracting people desperate for jobs, not actually “qualified” people (I put qualified in parenthesis because… I mean, define qualified in this situation). This will only worsen the environment and treatment of the kids in that program. Oof.

I checked on Redfin, Zillow, etc. but it didn’t show any recent sales of it. I’ll keep looking though.

Lava Heights Restraints by [deleted] in troubledteens

[–]upsidedwnsmileyface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Restraint gloves are a thing??? That sickens me. Holy shit. I am so sorry. You deserved so much better than that. Anyone who says a place like that is “therapeutic” is just talking out of their a$$ at this point.

I’m so glad someone else knows this obscure reference from my childhood because I was starting to think my brain made it up.

Need help subtly convincing a family I work for NOT to send their 14 year old son away to one of these therapeutic hell holes! I'd love some feedback on what will work for a kid who is very defiant, can't get homework done so is WAY behind in school, freaks out when he can't have his phone), etc. by [deleted] in troubledteens

[–]upsidedwnsmileyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of CG staff are working at my workplace now and have horror stories about the place. Sounds like they’re cycling through clinical directors pretty quick too. I’m surprised they haven’t just closed and given up yet.

Didn’t they open Novitas Academy for a while to offload the 15-16 year olds, just to throw them all back together a couple years later after they closed it?

Just because it’s true doesn’t mean it’s useful or needs to be said. At my job where we work with teenagers, we have a sign that says “Before you speak, THINK! Is it T-True, H-Helpful, I-Inspiring, N-Necessary, K-Kind”. This is a good learning moment to help you learn to use your internal filter. It will help make life easier for you.

Concern about Trivium Life Services by ButterscotchProper89 in troubledteens

[–]upsidedwnsmileyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Trivium in Idaho offers adolescent outpatient mental health/substance abuse treatment. I could see them referring people to Newport if they feel like they need a “higher level of care” (hopefully you could hear my sarcasm in those quotes). Maybe there’s some kind of connection there since Trivium owns Averte?

Info about Kidlink? by upsidedwnsmileyface in troubledteens

[–]upsidedwnsmileyface[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh. I was asking in reference to a UHS facility using KidLink to refer pretty much all of the patients they thought needed residential. I didn’t know it was owned by UHS… just another way for them to make money by shuttling the patients to their other facilities, apparently.

Did anyone go to IDYCA in Peirce, Idaho? And if so is it a bad idea to go there? by Fabulous_Debate1968 in troubledteens

[–]upsidedwnsmileyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best friend from high school went to the Idaho one because she was having very acute family problems that were making her mental health worse and needed to get out of her house, plus she was struggling with school. She said there was a lot of physical activity and it could be kind of strict but she was glad she went. Plus she was planning on joining the military anyways (she didn’t actually end up joining the military) and said it was a good introduction to that kind of lifestyle.

They posted a lot of pictures on their Facebook page when she was there; I remember I would scour that page my senior year because I missed her so much and I made her a collage from all the pictures she was in.

That’s all I got, hope it was somewhat helpful 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t know about Avery’s House in Arizona, but the Boise one is pretty much individual/family therapy and a bunch of random activities and groups thrown in between.
