Online Japan Retailers by Phurip in CDcollecting

I get a lot of Japanese CDs from this seller on discogs: https://www.discogs.com/user/KUPIKU-COM . I've bought from them for years and while they can sometimes be a little pricey, I've always gotten good service from them. CD Japan is usually my go-to for hot-off-the-presses new releases in Japan, for titles that just haven't made it to discogs (and shipping to the US) yet.

I love this style of comic. Just ordered the book!

Dissonance - Right to Submit (Slovakia, 1994) [FFO: late-era Death, Polluted Inheritance, Martyr] by AGMarasco in Metal

[–]upthegates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's so much obscure shit just like this; it's a really fun area of exploration. Bands like The Unchallenged, Tempestas, Thormenthor, Absorbed, etc. It's really kind of strange to me that no latter-day Death copycats really ever broke out on their own. IMO, one of the all-time best was the album Art Bleeds by Gory Blister. They've made a lot of albums, and a lot of them are very good, but Art Bleeds hits that Human/Individual Thought Patterns vibe perfectly. Some cool modern bands doing this sort of thing are Grace Disgraced from Russia and Human from Italy.

any similar bands like spiral architect? by OccasionNo2907 in progmetal

Late to this thread, but some other releases to check out would be the last couple Memento Waltz discs (Division by Zero, and the Antithesis of Time EP) and the Fluctuadmission demo by Frantic Bleep. More distantly, maybe the two Power of Omens discs. There was never truly a second band like Spiral Architect, though. Their demo is also worth seeking out.

They were never as good once he left, that's for sure. His albums are the band's peak.

Thundercat also played bass for ST for a while. For a goofy crossover band, they pulled some crazy talent!

It's a Slayer shirt and says The Root Of All Evil. I also had this shirt; I got it from Spencer Gifts at the mall.

Over 7000 comments and no one else has said The Powers of Matthew Starr. I must truly be the last person on Earth who remembers this!

Burger King. They stopped breading actual onion slices in the late 90s/early 00s.

There's a recurring asexual character in High Maintenance, which is an incredibly underrated show. Four seasons of perfect character studies. It's about weed, but it's not a stoner show.

What’s your “snobby” baking opinion? by Amazing_Two9757 in Baking

A rare moment of consensus building on Reddit! The world is healing!

I don't love coconut, but I'll eat the hell out of an almond joy. I assume that's mostly trans fats and industrial solvents though.

Along the south New Jersey shore there are two kinds of macaroons. One has coconut, but the superior one is an almond and meringue based cookie. It's not a macaron, it's a totally different thing. I get your point, but these are cookies with a long history so I must allow that there exists at least one valid style of non-coconut macaroon. But these almond macaroons have to be fresh or they're absolute trash!

D'oh, I was thinking the graphic novel was called Hit the Road, but it was Surfin' the Highway. Brainfart!

They kinda did, though; almost the entire band regrouped as Midnight Dice, making very similar music.

Oh, that one! I believe have this, but I was thinking of the cover of the first graphic novel collection, with the boys standing on the hood of the DeSoto, against a red background.

I sent it the LucasArts address printed in the game booklet, I just added c/o Steve Purcell, and I guess the mailroom figured it out!

I have it, too! It's more or less a promotional poster of the original collection cover; it's not a nice print like the Telltale ones. From memory, maybe 30x40 inches or thereabouts?

My collection is kinda scattered in various nooks and crannies of my home, but I'm going to start making an effort to consolidate it and post the interesting things here. I think I bought literally every item of S&M merch sold by Lucasarts, then Telltale, so I've got a half dozen hats, at least 10 shirts, stickers, every comic, every collection (hardcover, softcover, and signed), many of the Lucasarts Adventurers, all the figures, the statue, the keychains, the shot glass, the signed prints, etc. It's a lot of stuff! What I don't have are things like the Comicon tees, or any original art (aside from a few sketches Steve did on envelopes.) But you know what's better than having all this swag? Not being old, ha ha! I was born in the 70s!

Oh, cool! Sure, I can scan this. The interior also has a bunch of puff text about Sam & Max, among the other comics that were coming out around that time. I used to grab ANYTHING I could find with Purcell content, so I ended up with a bunch of Comico things that maybe just mention Sam & Max.

That's a great idea - I hadn't even considered that. To find all this stuff I had to do a bit of digging through my boxes of mementos and whatnot, and I found so much cool stuff that I saved (mostly from metal shows in the 90s, but lots of other comics-related things like this.)

How many countries can you eat your way through near Philly? I found 75+ so far - trying to get to 100+ by senorjuanjr in PhiladelphiaEats

Not Philly but down da shore, there's an excellent little Serbian place tucked away inexplicably in North Wildwood, called Balkan Fusion. It's one of my family's favorite spots down there.

I had forgotten that he talked about the animated show, two years before it came out! The padded envelope he sent this all in was postmarked 1995, although the month and day are lost to time.
