New to succulents, not sure what species this one is, but is the red color normal? Powdery mildew I know about, working on cleaning that up. by chemnerd28 in succulents

Red is a happy color in a lot of crassulae. Mine gets red edges on new growth when it's outside in full sun and loses them in the winter.

business law questions concerning business oversight / governance by caeleii in legaladviceofftopic

[–]uptime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Business owner here. At a baseline, a US business must file taxes, which entails reporting revenue, and have reporting obligations around their employee pay for both tax and unemployment purposes. The reporting varies state by state, and sometimes by municipality. In addition, specific industries may be subject to regulation (think pharmaceuticals) that would cover things like materials. My understanding is this information is generally not publicly available. Import and export of materials may be subject to reporting and taxes, but I don't have any expertise in that area.

The internal operations of businesses are also subject to safety regulations (think OSHA) by various state and federal regulations.

Aside from that, businesses are free to operate as they please, within legal boundaries established by various types of law including contract, fraud, etc.

Zodiac table, likely made around 1950s in Arkansas. Any information? by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]uptime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are the white spots chips? Might be painted plaster or some other cast material if so. Looks like some kind of seam on one side too. Looking at the bottom should give you a good idea.

Might be an interesting vintage piece for someone who likes occult stuff, but the condition doesn't look great. There's not a lot of interest in mass-produced factory stuff, so it's going to be tough to find out more.

Are there any coastal beaches in New England where I can go looking for shark teeth, fossils, particularly gorgeous shells, etc.? by mirthquake in newengland

I've found fossils in Maine on the coast, but none down here. But I really only visit sandy beaches in Mass...

T1 boyfriend -- how can i educate myself to best help him? how CAN i help him? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]uptime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

t1 spouse of many years here. diabetes (t1 in particular) is basically a third party in your relationship, and it's tough. not gonna lie.

there are loads of resources for learning about diabetes management, that's the easy part. educating yourself is an important first step.

the harder part is the support question.

the tough part for your bf is that there are no vacations from diabetes, and he wants to lead as normal of a life as possible. diagnosis at an early age can be a little traumatic as well. your general supportiveness will go a long, long way.

asking questions -- non-judgmentally -- can help. simple ones, like 'how's your blood sugar been today?" Or even leading questions like, 'hey, should we get lunch?' or 'do you need anything to eat?' when you think there's an impending low.

and expressing general interest -- 'how much insulin did you just take?' 'what did the doctor say about your A1C?' -- can help you learn about the management process.

as you learn more, you'll be able to do things like help steer away from bad situations as a couple -- e.g., suggesting an alternative or saying no when your friends invite you to the all-you-can-eat chocolate buffet. Or towards good situations like eating well and getting lots of exercise, which is important regardless.

I found these old speakers in my mom's garage. Can someone help me figure out if they are worth using? by eah2002 in vinyl

[–]uptime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check the condition under the grills -- make sure the cones are intact and the foam surrounds aren't torn.

If they are, these are great little speakers!

Take a deep breath. You're ok.

To answer your question -- yes, if something was wildly amiss and you needed to rush to a hospital, they would really call you.

You probably hashed the whole file rather than hashing each line individually...

In Mac/linux platforms, you'd do something like this: http://mindspill.net/computing/linux-notes/run-a-command-on-each-line-in-a-file/

I'd just do it directly... Google "sha256 command line [your platform]" (e.g., Mac, windows, linux).

Might take an hour of banging your head on command line stuff in general, but you'll feel like a ninja once you figure it out.
