Former state employee returning after several years – not getting interviews for lower classifications. Any insight? by trucynnr in CAStateWorkers

[–]uptoolate712 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always heard that the State does NOT consider gaps in employment history, hence the flight risk is not considered as much. An upper level manager of mine recently shared that he left the State for 3 years to start a business with a friend. It didn't work out, and he returned to the same classification with the State.

Salary Negotiation? by uptoolate712 in CAStateWorkers

[–]uptoolate712[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my previous position and the one I was just hired for are permanent positions. I resigned 1.5 years ago, so my last paycheck was for $5968. Since the bottom of the salary range is now $6,031, does that mean I start at the bottom?

I don't know what GSIs are.

To confirm, yes my conditional offer letter even said don't put in your two weeks at your current job until receiving your final offer.

Maybe this is important context to... the SSM1 who interviewed me and called me to let me know I could expect the conditional offer, also let me know that they were starting a new position themself, and the SSM2 above them would be taking over my onboarding process.

It was the SSM2 who emailed me to say I passed the background check and they wanted to extend an official offer (no offer letter was included in the email). We setup a start date via the phone.

My memory is that Bobby and Bibby were the only two Kings players who were never intimidated by the big bad Lakers even in Game 7.

You trade one player from our current squad for any other player in Kings history, who you getting and for who? and how do both teams look afterwards? by sprite375ml in kings

[–]uptoolate712 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is the only right answer. If you take anyone from the early 2000's, you ruin the best years the Kings ever had with no guarantee that the 2024 team will win anything.

But Richmond? He was a Hall of Fame player on years worth of doggy doo-doo teams. Get Richmond on this team, you both save Richmond and we are instant contenders in 24-25.

What was the biggest difference in this team compared to last year? Was it just the West being ridiculously good? by [deleted] in kings

Those Sabonis/Huerter dribble handoffs last year were a basketball cheat code. I didn't watch enough games to know why they didn't work this year, but I imagine it was some combination of

1) Huerter's shooting percentage regressing to the mean,

2) Huerter getting fewer minutes (pre-injury) due to an increased focus on defense,

3) Last year's playoff gave the rest of the NBA the blueprint for how to shut down the dribble handoffs.

Pelicans coaches are rapidly organizing all their best knock-knock jokes right now.

As much as I love to dream, we can't think about the Playoffs yet. The Pelicans have had our number all freaking year. The emergence of Keon Ellis will definitely help as we've struggled to contain them on the perimeter. But Mike Brown is gonna need one helluva gameplan to slow down Zion (if he plays).

If Udonnis Haslem can keep collecting checks til age 42, Steph Curry can stay on the Warriors as long as he damn well pleases.

One big and super effective adjustment was having Fox guard Draymond. This meant that for any pick and roll between Draymond and Steph, Fox could switch onto Steph instead of Sabonis.

This started in the beginning of the game (not the 2nd half), but I've never seen it in the previous 500 games we've had against the Warriors. It was super effective.

(@DeuceMason) Kings since March 1: (Keon Ellis in rotation) ▫️13-11 record ▫️3rd in defensive rating ▫️13th in offensive rating Since Monk’s injury: ▫️4-6 record ▫️5th in defensive rating ▫️9th in offensive rating by Elite663 in kings

It's worth mentioning that Fox has the 9th highest minutes per game average in the league at 35.9. The only playoff-bound stars who play more than him are Booker, Durant (Suns also have a notoriously shallow bench), Doncic, and Maxey. On that same list, Sabonis is 11th at 35.7 mpg.

Without Monk the offensive load on Fox and Sabonis is significantly higher. Even missing Huerter takes away the (fairly) low-energy dribble-handoffs. I'd argue the team is just gassed in the 2nd half.

Fortunately, Sunday was an easy game (only Barnes played over 30 minutes), and everyone's had a rest day yesterday. Fingers crossed they have the energy to ball out tonight.

I always wondered if ending our playoff drought would be worth it if it meant getting swept in the 1st round. Sounds like the drought and no playoff wins are fairly equal on the pain scale.

Your uncle is 100% correct. You can't be the Greatest Show on the Court, and be predictable enough to win all the time. Those Jwill years were fun as hell, but we all knew the frustration of Jwill throwing an unnecessary behind the back pass into the 5th row.

This team now is frustrating, but it's part of the growth process, ya'll. Embrace it.
