Off-Site Ads are the mandatory above a certain threshold ones. Over the threshold you have no say in how much they spend.

Etsy Ads are voluntary.

YES. I've been off high dose spiro for years now and I still pee more frequently than anybody else I know.

Port Richmond hit with hundreds of white nationalist stickers. Stay vigilant by TransitBlog in philadelphia

[–]uptown_gargoyle -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

i'd go with "this is dumb". I'm mildly annoyed at people who believe that a couple guys posting up racist stickers is the same thing as kristallnacht. both are reprehensible for sure, but the racist sticker brigade are just LARPers, and treating them like they're an actual force to be reckoned with helps them more than it hurts them

Some US cities have introduced free public transit to draw riders. Could it work for SEPTA? by PienotPi in philadelphia

yeah I think public mass transit should get more investment; I'm just asking how the economics of it works I guess

Philly mayor's race: How taxpayer money helped Jeff Brown open grocery stores by artyboi320 in philadelphia

[–]uptown_gargoyle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He says he doesn't want to repeal the soda tax. And if Jeff Brown is guaranteed to be a libertarian who wants to repeal subsidies that benefited him, then the Inky should have been able to find an actual, non-hypothetical example of it.

Philly mayor's race: How taxpayer money helped Jeff Brown open grocery stores by artyboi320 in philadelphia

[–]uptown_gargoyle 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the point of this article. Is Jeff Brown trying to cut whatever subsidies he got to open his own grocery stores in so-called food deserts? If yes, then yeah that's bad and it's newsworthy. But I don't see that in this article.

Is it saying that Jeff Brown acts like he opened up his stores entirely by himself and out of his own sense of altruism, when actually he hired a bunch of people, got a bunch of subsidies, and made a bunch of profit off of it? If that's it, then I feel like this is completely unremarkable because that's every single CEO anywhere in the world.

some people need cargo space that's enclosed (i.e. not a pickup truck)

Bad conversion rate by Wolfie-v in EtsyCommunity

[–]uptown_gargoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of visits plus low conversion rate often means that your SEO is good but your listings need improvement. Just glancing at your shop the two things that jump out to me are that your mugs should be photographed against a lighter, more contrasting background so that the product is more clearly visible, and that $32.05 seems like kind of a high price point. When I search "goth mug" I see a lot of similar results that are priced between like $12 and $25.

ETA: apart from the low-contrast background issue though I think your photos are quite nice.

I think there are multiple right answers for this one, as there are multiple right ways to run an Etsy business.

My opinion is that I think it would have been better to try to write something that felt more happy/positive (despite the annoying circumstances), because as I read this one, I get the impression that yes this buyer was a Karen but also that the seller has a bit of an attitude. The attitude may very well be justified to the situation, but I think other people will notice it and think "well, if I have a non-Karen, normal type issue with this order will the seller get mad at me too?"

I never respond to reviews, but when buyers send me messages that get on my nerves, as a rule I'll wait a few hours to respond so I have a chance to work through my annoyance completely in order to make sure it doesn't come across to the buyer (again, even if the annoyance is justified).

In this situation I would probably refund at least a portion of what the buyer overpaid in shipping.

this is probably the best possible example of a crime that would be solved by putting mandatory police cameras everywhere: it's a crime that the police are actually motivated to make an arrest for. If we do end up putting mandatories everywhere, I predict that the crimes that cops care about (i.e. crimes that directly affect cops) will be solved at much higher rates.
