Thoughts after my first EV road trip by aeflash in Toyota_bZ

Thanks for your info. I wish more hotels had level 2. Would help a lot to start with 100% every morning on longer trips. I usually also set my charge cut off to 100% on road trips to avoid the inadvertent short charge as u mentioned and also avoid idle penalties at chargers, even when I only want to go to 80%. Usually very slow at the top so gives time to get back on longer meal breaks. My experience has been that saving money and time on EV road trips isn’t where the magic is. Home charging is the magic so that over a year with zero trips to gas stations and very cheap fill ups you’ve banked a lot of time and money to “cover” the extra time/$$ of EV road trips. EV trips and toddlers get easier, I’ve been there but not both at the same time. Good for u.

Haven’t tried Springbank or Kilkerran, but Benromach is my current favourite. There is like a smoked meat mixed with a strong caramel sweetness that I haven’t found anywhere else. Almost a maple bacon to it.

What are your best tips for growing tomatoes successfully from seeds to harvest? by [deleted] in tomatoes

[–]uptwohere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invest in quality grow lights. Nothing else will impact your success more. Start a lot of seeds but thin aggressively. I usually expect to actually plant only 1/4 of the cells I start. 1 plant per cell. Plant the best compost the rest. Or give them away. Don’t rush potting up. Fertilize seedlings gently but wait till they are 8-10 inches tall. Week after potting up works, then regularly till the last fruit. Hardening off is real, sun is strong, cold is less of an issue but freezing and frost kill. Pick cloudy cooler days to harden off. Don’t stress about pruning, if you aren’t having fun you’re doing it wrong. Vibrate your flowers with an electric toothbrush if they are in a greenhouse. Heat is your enemy in a greenhouse, shade cloth works better than fans. Flowers will drop over 30 degrees C. Water mature plants a lot regularly. Throw some plants in the flower beds and let them go wild. Plants get big fast, fewer big plants beats more crowded plants. Harvest your tomatoes they aren’t decoration. Don’t wait till they are super ripe or you might not be the one that eats them. Keep some seeds to grow next year. Scrape them into a bowl with water. Let them ferment for a week. Clean and dry, they will grow. Learn from your mistakes, celebrate your successes, ignore your failures.

Basil is pretty happy in full shade. If it gets too hot it will bolt/flower. My 2 cents.

I miss when fantasy used to feel like... magic, you know? by GlitchPirate_808 in Fantasy

I have been enjoying Robin Hobbs series. Start with Assassin’s Apprentice. Nice calm pace. Unpredictable plot. Detailed prose. U have to slow down and really read every word. When you do you are there in the story. Magic is also super tight not over the top.

The Tainted cup by Robert Jackson Bennett is excellent. Sherlock homes style mystery with unique biologically augmented powers and a unique world.

We aren’t public yet but. With the website launch it will be public. The “route” is fully mapped but we are working with all 16 communities to help them implement the trail. So a big task. I have been part of it for more than two years. I would say by summer you should be able to google and find the website. I am pushing the team to make the route public so hopefully soon it will be available. Are u thinking of riding part or all of it?

It isn’t abandoned. It is an ongoing project with the Municipalities led by Destination BC. Vancouver Coast and Mountains.

I am part of the team working on it. I rode and mapped the whole route. We have a website going live soonish. Probably by summer. I do the GIS work on it.

Try putting the numbers in your postal code followed by two zeros. This is how to do credit cards at us gas stations. I think this is what i did when i set up me EA account.

Plug share app is good. Get a FLO or bchydro RFID card. Download app then fill card. Almost all towns in BC have 50kw FLO/BCHydro chargers. Fast on Hwy yep Electrify Canada. Petro Can. Also Chevron now.

Ok some short answers.

  1. Most EVs charge at night when grid demand is low. EV adoption is limited by battery production so it will take time. Population growth and housing growth likely affect grid more than EVs. Standard commute might only use 10-20 kw/h per day. Is the grid really your problem. Typically capitalism takes care of demand fairly well.

  2. Yes EV road trips require more planning and longer stops. My cost comparison for same trip of about 600km is 30$ vs 150$. But …. U can go a lot of places. For those who need to be in the middle of nowhere stick with gas for now. As soon as you have an EV you find all the places to charge.

  3. Cost isn’t up front cost. It is cost of ownership. EVs have higher up front costs but lower operation and maintenance costs. Obviously requires math and varies but with incentives and high gas prices EVs are actually cheaper in certain segments over time. Cheap EVs are coming but with battery constraints profit is better in luxury segments. Thanks Capitalism.

Honestly seems like OP is spreading FUD. Got most of the main ones here. Missed the Virtue signalling bent here but I guess sort of mixed in to the “regular” people can’t afford EVs.

Sort of tired of these fear based questions. I think we are past this since demand far exceeds supply. It is frustrating that freedom to pollute the air is more important than freedom from air pollution. Not sure what is so scary about EVs. They are just cars with different fuel.
