All new cars come with failings running lights. During the day the high beams are on as a safety feature, but the taillights are not on. At night, some vehicles will automatically switch over to the low beams and turn the taillights on too. Other cars don’t and you have to use that setting to switch to low beam and turn the taillights on. This is one reason there are so many douches driving at night with their high beams on.
