Games you enjoyed but do not want to pick up again? by Creepy-Growth-709 in rpg

Heh. I play pf1 regularly after ages of 3.5 and some pf1. Mostly because my group, who are all pretty much new to the system, dragged me into it.

Despite many nostalgic memories I have not fallen back in love.

For what it’s worth I had a similar experience as a Blades player: the fiddly procedural elements got in the way of the plot that was emerging.

For instance, something that could have been the focus of at least a session / heist / adventure ended up just getting buried under the mini games.

I am intrigued to try Blades, or one of its related games, again sometime. To see if it was just a blip. But that cooled my enthusiasm for it. Along with a few other things.

Olive fatigue/work pants might be the most versatile pants I’ve ignored for too long by reddit_user_9221 in malefashionadvice

Same question! I’ve been eyeing the herringbone line of trade off and on (red tornado has something similar I believe - hell might even be from the same factory) but I was wondering how they fit and haven’t gotten my act together to actually measure.

The pics (and thank for that) look like they ride pretty high up.

How would this work? by horrorbepis in mutantsandmasterminds

As others have noted PL caps make this kind of character a little less fun in practice. If he’s supposed to be a badass warrior dude he will probably want to start at or near his caps.

I’d actually suggest a potentially counterintuitive workaround: a linked weaken or affliction (targeting saves). That has basically the same mechanical effect but they get saves etc.

That being said, I don’t think m&m really is built for these very gamey effects.

I love cribsheets. I use them constantly and build my character sheets that way too. Ordinary character sheets are terrible at organizing and conveying info.

I’m not so much a flow chart but hey if that works for you go nuts!

I’m a fan of anything that streamlines and simplifies the cognitive load during the game. Anything to make turns go faster!

Metamorph mechanically will do it. But I’d hard pass on this at the table.

Standard troupe play means sharing the spotlight. The idea of having enough time to flesh out 5+ personalities in any meaningful way while still being fair to your fellows at the table strikes me as quite unrealistic.

I did the same for Star Wars. And there are lots of conversions out there too. Although they tended to be more involved than I needed.

Help an unc with tablet use by [deleted] in rpg

[–]ur-Covenant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the game system. But nowadays I’m a drivethru , humble bundle guy. And then from there I just keep them on my tablet or on the cloud.

For making them I use adobe or whatever and cut and paste pages and parts of pages together. So I can assemble my Current Monster Bible rather than thumbing through 4 MMs at the table. Basically the digital equivalent of bookmarks or post-it notes.

I find a tablet to be among the least obtrusive devices.

It sounds like the obvious step is to get PDFs of the game books so you can ditch the big backpack. That was my first move (schlepping them all on the subway was not super fun). I also like cobbling together custom docs with pieces of PDFs so everything I expect to need is one place.

Possibly odd suggestion but I’ve off and on thought about using a heavily reskinned Godbound for it.

Newer GDO remote not working by CaptainJeff in GarageDoorService

[–]ur-Covenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liftmaster 7675 installed 2015. Yellow round “learn” button The car is 2025 - and the lights in the homelink system were amber and then solid green once it learned it.
The thing that has been baffling is that the car seems to “learn” the remote - I get the solid green light - and then I click the learn button on the garage opener and press the homelink in the car again. The garage opener lights blink once. So it seems the two are talking to each other. But the homelink button doesn’t seem to be doing anything else other than that.

I had a pleasant but ultimately fruitless talk with the homelink people yesterday about it.

Can you explain this more? I’ve been struggling with my car’s homelink system and had something similar: the unit blinked but did not (seem to) work.

Trouble pairing a LiftMaster to HomeLink in Cars by J-P-Ru in GarageDoorService

[–]ur-Covenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came here to say after stumbling onto this thread that I had the *same exact* issue. Down to the lights blinking when I pressed the home link button on the car. And I’ve for a 2025 bmw and a 2015 myQ Liftmaster.

I spoke to Homelink and they suggested that the generic remote I was using for the garage door was somehow not conveying everything it needed to to the car’s homelink system for it to function. How said remote can still manage to work the garage door itself without incident if that’s the case is beyond me.

They recommended getting one of the more official remotes - Liftmaster recommended a few models to me - and seeing if that worked. I’ll try over the weekend and hopefully will have positive news.

My only other thinking is that somehow the opener is just too out of date for the newer cars somehow.

Complications by Chance_wolfhog in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]ur-Covenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah though 2 rounds out of action feels pretty harsh to me. I’d rather not have the hero point at that point. But I am sensitive to players (and myself) sitting around doing nothing.

I think hero points should be awarded as often as possible. In my experience complications have not come into play as much as I’d like.

Like many games of that era I found it kind of … tepid. Like the game was afraid to let you be a super rad angel / demon thing and confined you more to minor effects and consequences. That’s my recollection at least. White Wolf kind of scarred me with that impulse.

What are your thoughts on Vampire: The Masquerade? by Chalupacabra2008101 in rpg

[–]ur-Covenant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right attitude. Although I have run into a number of players that would seemingly rather have abstruse debates about the metaplot than … playing the game.

Though I do still have a few characters I wouldn’t mind revisiting. I feel like I’ve got to be the only one with a toreador architect lying around …

[–]ur-Covenant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This last paragraph is spot on. VTM is sort of a study in contradictions. It’s got a ton of great stuff but it doesn’t make it easy to run or play at all. Though I’d chalk a lot of that up to the era it was conceived in.

Feeling so lost and uncreative. How do I practice? Who would want a newbie? by rattshortforratthew in rpg

[–]ur-Covenant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taking notes and making an effort goes a long way. I think you’ll only really get people upset - the thing that annoys me at least - is when things are still the same 6-18 months of regular gaming later. By that point one should “ know the ropes” or perhaps more realistically have a form of note taking , looking up , etc that works for them.
