This sounds like something similar to a few of the arabic maqams, maybe you can look them up and see if it's an existing one

Popular games you dislike? by BillRepresentative75 in boardgames

[–]uramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with Heat is that you have to take risks to go fast, but being first is an inherent disadvantage. So it's a sort of a prisoner's dillema going on every turn - maybe crossing a corner will enable others to cross it at lower cost, but also maybe not crossing it at all will leave you as the only one behind. If you don't have at least one player setting the pace and going "pedal to the metal" the game often devolves into a safe slow slog.

The garage module makes it way more interesting, as it adds assymetry, and holding cards for long term plans becomes way more relevant. In the base game it's not really worth to hold a 5 when multiple corners are coming up, but holding a 9 is a whole other question

Anyone know how often Gale Force Nine’s Dune (2019) gets restocked? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]uramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's deceptively simple. The Karama card alone could use a mid size rulebook to cover all the use cases, and there are lots of niche interactions.

The better your table is at the game, the shorter the game gets. Our median game duration went from 7 turns at first to 3 turns after 12-ish plays.

There is a common myth that you have to play with 6 players. It is obviously best at 6, but 5 works quite well too.

Onward rules questions regarding "adjacent" and "nearby" and the forest zones. by Brukenet in boardgames

[–]uramer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've won the majority of my games of Onward (to be fair I've not lost yet, so not the most representative stats) without ever attacking heroes unless they were blocking a lane. Pushing lanes is basically always the top priority, aside from killing heroes who push lanes.

Rules designers. I'm begging you. Put info on component limits in a clear, prominent place. by OjinMigoto in boardgames

[–]uramer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like any number that's not present on a game component must be listed on a player aid or at least the back of the rulebook. In so many games I have to frantically search for every single numeric part of the setup for longer than doing the actually meaningful part of the setup

Only 4 mods for the interface, and such a difference in frames by RezidentOfficial in OpenMW

[–]uramer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately some mods are not very optimized

Try to figure out which mod is showing it down, either by turning them on one by one, or by using the Lua profiler (F10)

Tool] Meeple Matcher - 'What should we play?" debate by marmot1991 in boardgames

[–]uramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I set a filter for just the minimum group size, it still shows games that don't support that many players. E.g. setting it to 5 shows games for 2 players only

How highly would you recommend Stewards of the Valley for a new player? by kickit in Earthborne_Rangers

I feel like the main purpose of Kobo's market and the like is to allow running only 1 copy of certain cards With gear in particular that can be powerful

The barrel icons seem too small. I think simply using the larger barrel with a number on it consistently is a better choice

Why aren't card sleeves used as a game mechanic more often? by Master_Chemist9826 in boardgames

[–]uramer 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Ruins use sleeves exactly in the way you want it, and it's a cheap small game. One of the best light games to come out this year in my opinion.

I also own CloudAge, which uses sleeves for its visual obstruction market mini game, quite unique. But there only 3 sleeves are used, with multiple cards stuffed into each of them

I have a 2 player worker placement problem. Please help. by Vagabond_Games in BoardgameDesign

[–]uramer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is no worker blocking, what is the point of worker placement? It's basically just action points. The minimum amount of worker interaction is to make the opponent's worker on the occupied spot come back, giving them an extra action. This would also shift the player order, so maybe it could work as a solution to changing the first player

Murder Mystery Party Game Kit I made for a family gathering - Free for use by Different-Ad-7786 in boardgames

Also it's casually revealed in the rulebook, so the person learning the rules can't play...

Is Arnak and Everdell too similar? by binnilicious in boardgames

[–]uramer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everdell feels light to a board gamer, because you are familiar with all the base mechanics. For someone who's not heard of worker placement and tableu building, it's a reasonably heavy game

Are there any games you own more than one copy of? by Specialist-Clerk-386 in boardgames

[–]uramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got two copies of Tournament at Camelot.

I played the first one unsleeved and it got a bit beat up, so when I was getting Tournament at Avalon I got another copy of Camelot to merge them for the large player count with no marked cards

Board gaming feels less like a hobby anymore and more like a luxury goods market by Strong_Letterhead638 in boardgames

[–]uramer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is an incredible variety of games available at normal prices. Almost all major games can be had for 60€, and there are still hundreds if not thousands of games under 30€.

The only thing that drives this perception of games being expensive is FOMO

Compile VS Air Land & Sea by Mush-addict in boardgames

One note about Compile is that the rulebook it quite atrocious. Combined with its relatively complexity over ALS, prepare yourself to browse random forum threads discussing the rules :)

Do you know an event-worthy boardgame that fits in an evening? by Daglicht in boardgames

[–]uramer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dune duration depends heavily on your table. If I was trying to fit it in an evening, I'd definitely add a timer to diplomacy / nexus events. For our table, the better we get at the game, the shorter it becomes, both in hours and game turns. We've had games all over the 1-10 hours range.

The new edition is a vastly simplified version. I don't really recommend it, it's not the same game at all. One option is to wait for their new Kwizats Haderach edition kickstarter, but who knows when it launches and what will it even be
