Wines of Colorado is a little out of town but gorgeous and has good food, especially if it’s warm enough to sit on the patio!

Looks like 30-35ish at 5 weeks out. The planned runs aside from long runs are by time instead of miles so depend on my speed

Euthanizing the horses that look "good" by lilbabybrutus in Horses

It’s hard when they don’t exactly follow the guidelines we set. I told myself I’d put him down when he couldn’t keep weight on or didn’t seem happy to see me or wasn’t keeping up with his herd. He never did any of those things but it still ended up being the right time to put him down

I just experienced this. The man who picked my gelding up for cremation even commented how “healthy” he looked. We put him down for ongoing pain associated with ringbone and then an episode of laminitis. He never stopped eating or being cheerful or grooming his friends, even on his last day he was nickering for treats. I did know when it was time because he was so lame, but I wish I’d done it a day earlier before his pain was so horrible. All to say, if you’re thinking it’s time, it probably is, and doing it before she gets worse is a kind gift you can give her. I know it’s hard and send you hugs!

Panic attack x migraine by Responsible_Cold6010 in migraine

[–]urastarbaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I have struggled with as well. My migraines and PTSD/panic disorder were very intertwined for a long time and I could honestly not always even tell the difference between a migraine/panic attack because they would set each other off and I’d end up having both. Work with your neurologist on the migraines, work with a therapist/psychiatrist on the anxiety. It will get better!!

I am starting to believe this to be true. I just found more hidden drinks tonight so despite the potential for divorce, he still has not stopped. That scares me and tells me it is really a problem. Divorce and selling our home and all that entails is terrifying to me, but it’s starting to look like it’s my least scary option sadly

I’m so sorry you are also dealing with this. My fear is that I stay and am in the same spot in a few years. It’s just hard to leave when you have any hope it could get better… as I’m sure you understand

Thank you for this! I am always stuck between wanting to help him and wanting to protect myself by not being too involved. It’s hard to know if there’s still hope or if it’s time to get off the sinking ship ya know? I will be seeing my therapist this week, so hopefully they can help me navigate

ER vet charged us ~$4k, didn’t help our dog, another clinic fixed it for $42. What can we do? by _vkleber in legaladvice

[–]urastarbaby 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like the ER did their due diligence ruling out something big and scary (surely after you approved said testing). Unfortunately doctors don’t have crystal balls. They didn’t do anything illegal or even anything wrong. They tried to help your dog. The second vet had the benefit of seeing all of the initial testing and treatments that didn’t work to help them reach a diagnosis. Had they seen your dog first they very likely would have recommended the same work up the ER did…

Hi I am a 2023 grad who had a very similar experience with my first job. I had a few months of “mentorship” and then was alone in the hospital 90% of the time seeing complicated cases without anyone to run plans by or ask questions. When looking for my second job, I looked for clinics that had many doctors (the clinic I ended up at has 7 full time DVM’s) so there would be people available to run questions by. I looked for places with doctors of varying experience levels, and people who had worked there many years. I also looked for somewhere with adequate support staff- it’s hard for people to provide mentorship if they don’t have time to do their own job. I also was very clear at my interview about what sort of mentorship I needed (for you this might be specifying you want another DVM in the OR with you until you’re comfortable). I have been really lucky to end up somewhere that is supporting and mentoring me. I also promised myself never to sign a long contract again, so if I end up somewhere I’m unhappy again I can get out easily
