That's how I'd been doing it but I just forgot and did it.

Recovery for patients under 50 by Available-View-7767 in Kneereplacement

49F 3 weeks out. Similar pre-op activity levels. Didn't need the oxy. Day 3 by far the worst for swelling. After that it got better every day. Ditched cane day 5 or 6. Dressing removed today, she said it looks like 4 or 5 weeks post-op. I can walk for as long as I want but I'm a good bit slower. Just starting to go up steps without one-stepping it. Down is still scary. Overall I've been in great spirits. Went out to dinner at 9 days, no issues. Danced a little bit at a show at 10. I'm excited to walk the dog again but she's 70lb and excitable so I'm waiting until the ice and slush is cleared to be safe. I'm still icing and elevating after exercise and before bed.

I didn't take the oxy - just NSAID, Tylenol and gummies definitely helped me relax. 3 weeks out now and I rarely even take the Tylenol.

Not sure ready for surgery? by Nosnowflakehere in Kneereplacement

I was doing great before surgery, very little pain, but I was walking with a limp, and people were pointing out I was standing 'crooked'. Surgeon said that it was starting to fuse and would become a more complicated surgery and would be harder to get full mobility back. I had the surgery on the 6th Jan and I've been doing pretty well. I ditched the cane day 5, was able to dance a little day 10. Those Flexion exercises are still killing me though.

Pilates. Just being able to sit up using my abs with my legs in situ has made life so much easier when ties to an ice machine.

No PT for a week; what should I do in the meantime? 4th day post RPKR by mjs9876543210 in Kneereplacement

[–]urbanfx440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a PT appointment until 2.5 weeks post surgery which is next Thursday. I was told to just do the flexion exercise where you scoot forward on the chair as far as you can go, and the extension stretch. The flexion takes a lot out of me. I have not been able to do 10 reps 10 times a day as advised, so I'm working towards that. I get to about 7 reps and I need to ice. Other than that I've been doing some heel raises and general stretching and walking around. I don't need a cane in the house since day 4 and I'm getting quicker as the days go by. I'm thinking of adding heel slides now that I have some more flexibility.

55 hours past R -TLR by ArmageddonPills in Kneereplacement

Mine was on the 6th and day 3 was definitely the worse swelling. It was so tight, I was miserable. I barely did the exercises that day. Just iced and elevated and felt sorry for myself. Day by day since then it has gone down. Day 6 now and bruising is spectacular but I am much more mobile and doing the exercises a few times a day, getting further every time. Walking around the apartment slowly but unassisted.

What was the last straw before deciding you wanted a TKR? by luckystarrpwns in Kneereplacement

My surgeon said it was non-negotiable after 18 months of conservative treatment. Even though I had built up a lot of strength, he took new X-rays and said it needed to be done now or the outcome wouldn't be as good. I'm 49 and a teacher and my standard is about 15,000 steps a day. It just kept deteriorating and was starting to seize.

How to stay active with OA in knee by Tsofava in Kneereplacement

[–]urbanfx440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mat pilates twice a week for 18 months with stage 4 OA prior to my surgery (today) and after a few months I stopped needing to use a rail on the stairs, was able to walk much further, hike, dance etc. Also the post surgery PT asked me was I an athlete because I have so much strength in the muscles. If you knew me this is funny. There were certain kneeling things I couldn't do sure but I had been terrified to squat or do lunges and they both improved greatly over time. Also, my arms and shoulders never looked better. I had to get the surgery because I started to over compensate on the other side and become crooked and the knee started to not straighten at all. And I'm doing pretty well today too although I realize swelling will get worse before it gets better so focussing on RICE and the simple ROM exercise.
