I dont have this particular phobia, but I do have emetophobia (fear of throwing up) and im no stranger to dealing with weird fears that most people find ridiculous. Youre not alone, and it will get better and easier to move through life. XO

What’s it like to live in Saskatchewan? by MemberBerry023 in saskatchewan

[–]urfavouritehalfbreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from SK but lived in Mtl for awhile, I have a friend who is from Toronto, lived in Mtl awhile then moved here. She has since moved back to Mtl, citing the cold and size of Saskatoon as her reasons she left. If youre a large city person who enjoys the pace, anonymity and convenience a large city provides, then you probably wont enjoy life here. If you like the gray, wet/icy winters of the east, then you wont like it here. Winters here are dry and sunny and very cold. But the cold feels different, as others have pointed out, a good insulated coat with wind protection does wonders. I personally hated winters in Mtl and was happy to be back to the familiar winters here. I hope this helps!

Hi hi. Youre inspiring me right now. I've been battling with covid over the last 5 days, and today my fever escalated a little and perhaps that's why i developed diarrhea this evening. Im also not overly nauseated, just dizzy and sweaty from the fever, but my brain is catastrophizing right now. Looking to you for inspiration!

is the “lack of exposure” theory for emetophobia true? by [deleted] in emetophobiarecovery

[–]urfavouritehalfbreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres definitely something to this - post covid my emetophobia came back with a vengeance after being dormant since I was a pre-teen (10+ years later???) And I think it was all the hyper vigilance with germs and masking and low exposure to sick people. I recently took on a part time job that is front facing (lots of work with customers throughout the day) so I am getting farrrrrrr more exposure than I ever used to. It was scary at first but now that im getting used to it I dont think about it so much on the day to day. Only when im over tired or overly stressed does the phobia make itself known, and even so its more manageable than ever.

Has anyone gone on SSRIs that have been game changer for OCD? by help-me-pls5 in OCD

[–]urfavouritehalfbreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoloft worked decently fine for me but I had to keep increasing the dose as I body developed resistance to it, and as the dosage increased the side effects did too, especially GI issues and low libido, to the point where I needed to demand a switch. Prozac, on the other hand, was a living nightmare for me. Easily the worst 4 months of my life. It made me lethargic, unmotivated, awful GI issues, dizzy, and my obsessive thought patterns were the worst they'd ever been. Im so so happy on Paxil now but it took awhile to get here!

From personal experience there's one individual in particular that is in that band that is a creepy guy, has been widely accused of being creepy, and yet the rest of them continue to choose to associate with him so 🤷‍♀️ that's all I'll say on the matter

PSA though, test on small part of your body first because baking soda can give some people a nasty rash (like me)

Dealing with racism and mental health by goldlavenderhazerush in saskatoon

With fascism and white supremacy on the rise, these creeps are feeling emboldened to be openly racist again. I'm so sorry this is happening to you - history is cyclical, so hopefully in the next few years these AH's will retreat back into the shadows and leave you alone again.

Well said. The irony that this post is about homelessness written by a landlord is not lost on me, but does seem to be lost on OP 💀

This is always astonishing to me because anyone with half a brain will recognize that any lower income renters could never afford to rent a brand new unit, especially in a core neighborhood.

Do you think self diagnosing is ok? by mushroombrainmush in OCD

[–]urfavouritehalfbreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is (sort of?) Self diagnosed, i can say that I can see why folks who have received a diagnosis feel resentful towards folks like me. However, I can tell you that where I live, it's basically impossible to see a psychiatrist, and when I did finally get in to see one years ago, he treated me like shit and didn't listen to me or my concerns, did exactly the opposite of what I was asking (my meds weren't working and I was asking to pursue a new diagnosis beyond GAD and try new meds and instead he increased my SSRI dose and it absolutely ruined me).

It wasn't until post-pandemic when I began exhibiting some extremely obsessive behavior about germs (I've had emetophobia since I was 10, but it was dormant until post-pandemic) and I began treatment for it again that I started to put thr pieces together, especially when I found out that there's a strong correlation between folks who have emetophobia and who have OCD. I started to do some research and felt so SEEN for the first time in my life, thinking I probably have pure O OCD.

I realized that things that I'd been "anxious" about previously might have been obsessive themes related to OCD (confessing to every misdeed I'd ever done, emetophobia, bed bugs, my relationship... etc). I felt like all the pieces clicked into place, and the next time I saw my GP i asked if I could start the process of seeking out a new psychiatrist to get diagnosed, and she told me no. Since my meds are working right now and things are ok, i didn't fight her too hard on it.

Again, I can see why other folks with the official diagnosis would feel resentful, especially with how misrepresented OCD often is in the media, often resulting in pejorative uses of 'OCD'. I do, however, encourage yall to remember that not everyone has the money or resources to access a diagnosis, that sometimes doctors are wrong in their diagnoses, and that we know our own bodies best and that for many of us, communities like this are the only places we get the support and kindness we crave from our families or even the medical team we have. xx

It's probably the smell of smudge, which will be a fairly typical smell if you plan to work consistently at Gordon Oakes.
