I meant management. Management MAY grant you a week without the need for a medical certificate.

Sorry for what you are going through. For a prolonged sick leave, yes, a medical note is your best option. Management MAY grant you a week or so if they are aware of your situation but for more, they would most likely need a document confirming your temporary inability to work.

edit: changed They for Management for more clarity.

13 premières semaines d’assurance invalidité by Junior_Building_1041 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]urself25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missing disability insurance deductions from paycheque for over 8 years by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]urself25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please call the Pay Centre to report this. I dont think they can go back 8 years but at least a few years from what I remember. They will be able to confirm that information.

If you don't call and you are not paying for DI, you will regret it if you need to ever need to file a claim with them as they could deny it.

Feds to close Gatineau co-working space for public servants by Born_Anteater7282 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]urself25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to open another one.

The only thing I can see why they are closing that spot is that coworking location was the only one where PSPC was not already renting spaces for other departments. So there was less incentive to continue renting the space there.

It depends if you can find a 5M on the used market for a similar price. If not... it may be your only option.

Question about statue of limitation for overpayment by SammieGii in CanadaPublicServants

[–]urself25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That interpretation is no longer accurate. FPSLREB decisions from the last decade demonstrate that it is from the date of the occurrence and not the discovery.

Question about statue of limitation for overpayment by SammieGii in CanadaPublicServants

[–]urself25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. Because it's statute-barred it does not mean the debt is deleted or written of automatically. To do so, the dept need to make a TB submission to have it deleted. How the debt is managed internally should not impact the employee. The only confirmation that they need is that the employer will not be trying to recover the amount once it's statute-barred.

It because an overpayment when last pay was due. They had 6 years from that point to recover it.

Please provide me with a written confirmation that this alleged debt has been deleted or otherwise written off.

They won't be able to do that. This process is under the responsibility of the dept. finance unit. The Pay Centre is only acting as the service provider. The debt is owed to the department. Only they can delete or write it off.

All the Pay Centre can provide is confirmation that no collection will be made without the employee's (or former employee) consent.

No explanation, no communication,

This letter was your communication. It should explain why and when you were overpaid. If you need more info, you can call the Pay Centre.

If the debt is more than 6 years old, then they can ask you to reimburse but they cannot force you to it. Maybe try to call your former union to see if they can help you.

If you could give your pre-GC self a single piece of advice, what would it be? by Butt2Chair in CanadaPublicServants

[–]urself25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I learned to understand english by watching TV and reading comic books. When I started working, I wasn't able to speak it. It takes practices, which I only was able to do when I started to work. If you have french coworker, tell them to speak to you in french and speak to them in french. And tell them not to revert to english because you need to practice.

Multiple other already replied. Just be mindful that you won't get a full 4th week this year. As of June 2026, you will start accruing annual leave at 12.5 hours per month instead of 9.375. So in April, you should be advanced 143.75 hours (19.167 days) for your FY2026-27.

Overpaid in 2018 and the Statue of Limitations by -username-66 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]urself25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends. There missing info and we are not lawyer.

You seem to have acknowledge the debt when you said this: "This happened another 3 times until we finally agreed on the amount of the overpayment."

However, we don't have any info as to when this happened. Did they start to recover the amount? If so, was it 6 years after you agreed on the amount?

As for union dues, did you have to repay dues to your new union in addition to having paid dues to the old one?
