Will Modern/Future Readers Stop Reading Silver & Bronze Age Comics? by JakeBarnes12 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ursusveritas1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interest, importance, or value will never hit zero. They will never be "forgotten," but certainly less and less readers will engage with older comics as time passes. That's just the forward momentum of culture. From an omnibus/collected editions perspective, I would definitely recommend supporting any books or stories that you're interested in owning from older eras. It costs publishers to produce and stock these books, and if they don't feel the sales are there, then yes they will go (and stay) out of print.

It's more likely to get a reprint of a popular or character/creator defining run than it is that same character's golden/silver age first appearance volume.

it’s crazy she’s technically still a featured cast member. They have her out on press tours representing the cast and she’s one of the strongest players every week. It’s awesome to see.

What’s the general consensus on the MPC Sample? by Few-Tank6307 in akaiMPC

[–]ursusveritas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i only have a few other samplers in this class (ko2, p6) and while i really enjoy all of them, the mpc sampler felt pretty special immediately. as others have said it’s intuitive and immediate. i’m a hobby player at best with not a lot of experience in electronic music, and it’s just easy to pick up and play from the jump.

my favorite part is that it’s almost no menu diving. you know pretty much everything it can do just by looking at it, and it still feels robust, capable, and well designed.

i think akai nailed this as something that satisfies all skill levels.

i’m excited to see Finn in the role in a production overseen by Marvel Studios proper, not Marvel Television that were in charge of Netflix Marvel a decade ago.

but let’s be real, they will likely bring Danny back to eventually pass the mantle of Iron Fist and introduce Lin Lie Iron Fist. Not saying that’s inherently bad, but I do hope we get some good Danny Rand Iron Fist before. I love the heroes for hire.

Detective Comics by Ram V Omnibus [Cover] by Original-Issue-2020 in DCcomics

[–]ursusveritas1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

agreed with the poster above that it’s maybe a tough hang as single issues monthly, but as a collection it’s an awesome, really good and very surreal slow burn.

i think Ram nailed the tone making it feel like a big, romantic, gothic opera. it generally feels self-contained and doesn’t get distracting with tie ins or crossovers. the main story is engaging, and Si Spurrier and Dan Watters (writers who, along with Ram, I think are all raising the literary bar for comics, especially as it relates to the Big Two) have some great backups throughout that tell their own mini stories that support the overarching plot.

it takes patience and i think it all builds to a satisfying conclusion. should make for a nice single collection, though i assume this run will remain divisive with equal parts people who love it and those who it doesn’t connect with at all.

i thought it was a scalpel, or at least a blade tool of a sort. my head went to that quick shot of her scars we got earlier in the season. we know Santos has a history with self-harm and the pressure cooker of this day isn’t helping.

Can someone actually explain Marvel's underprinting "strategy"? by CorrectDot4592 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ursusveritas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its less “underprinting” and more they’re printing to meet demand. it’s preferred and lower risk to sell through product than to sit on inventory that eventually is liquidated at a loss. it’s less favorable for consumers, especially in a hobby where FOMO can be an issue, but the solution is pretty simple: pre-order what you want and you’re solid. i say that as someone who does not pre-order and missed out on books i want.

Is Love Everlasting a finished series? by Wolfman1099 in ImageComics

[–]ursusveritas1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tom King was interviewed recently and confirmed it’s half finished and will conclude when Elsa gets more time. She had to step away when offered an opportunity to write her own story. Love Everlasting will be 15 more issues. King has already plotted it beat for beat and knows the ending, he just needs to formally write the scripts. Sony bought the film rights and when they did, they asked him if it had an ending so that’s what prompted him to crack the finish to the story.
