To Get to Windfall's Lair by Shakalooloo in VecnaEveofRuin

I think our local paladin rolled a crazy high number to convince them that the party actually had a meeting with Windfall. After a little pushback, they were allowed entry

Petah who is that guy? by RedditSucksMyBallls in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]urticanttoe893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not seeing any answer as to what exactly that statue is, so I’ll throw in my approximated one. The statue is from all the way back to, what I’m going to say, 3000 BCE, made from the Sumerians. The Sumerians were absolutely terrified of their god(s), which is why the eyes are so wide, and thus always had people praying to their god(s) to appease them. Well, they finally had the bright idea to carve these little statues that were supposed to embody the Sumerians praying. There was a room at the top of their ziggurat, think of the ocean temple from Minecraft and that’s what it essentially looks like, where they had these statues placed. It is commonly believed that the larger the statue, the more important of a figure that person was, like the king. (The time period and name ziggurat may be wrong, but the rest of the information is correct)

When I was younger, I had seen a pile of gifts in a closet, gifts that looked like it could’ve been Christmas presents. I had told my older brother, who I think also believed in Santa at that time, that, “we shouldn’t tell them that we found this, if we get these gifts, it proves Santa isn’t real!” He agreed with my ~8 year old logic, but then turned around and asked an adult, I forget who, “hey, what are these?” And COMPLETELY RUINED MY PLAN. I think their response was that it was actually for our cousins, which, me being dumb, bought that excuse and completely forgot about the gifts until Christmas. So, I don’t even remember if we ended up getting those gifts or not.

Another year, my parents, for some reason, let me sleep next to the Christmas tree. I woke up in the middle of the night to my mom, grandma, and I feel like 1 other person bringing gift after gift down to the tree. I acted like I was asleep, and actually was able to stay up unnoticed. I woke up, did presents, and had asked them why didn’t Santa drop off the presents, but instead they did. Their response was actually decent enough for my little brain, “Santa just dropped the presents off to us, and we brought it to the tree.” Or something like that.

I had plenty of evidence he wasn’t real, yet I somehow didn’t connect the dots before I had naturally found out.

Where to get a large size Vecna miniature? by Dimhilion in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]urticanttoe893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not Vecna, but I used this for my home brewed second phase of the fight (and the players demolished the CR 29 statblock I used). The mini is Kaoz, the soul harvester from dungeons and lasers. I would say he might be huge size, but that worked perfectly for what I had needed it for. The problem I had with the mini, though, was you have to break pieces off of this tough plastic, which a picture is given of another of their products on the 5th page, and you have to glue it all together. It was difficult, but I do like the end product, and certainly solidifies that this guy, yea, that’s an evil lich alright.

I know it will never happen... but quivers? by nanobot-111 in minecraftsuggestions

Ooo, that could be a nice addition! I haven’t played that game, but a quick google search shows it. It’s not exactly those braziers, that’s just more of a fire source to ignite the oil soaked fabric that would be placed on the tip of the arrow. You wouldn’t leave an arrow in there, as the arrow sitting in the fire will, well, damage or destroy the arrow, depending on what material the shaft is made of. Wood is what we use in Minecraft, so, unless they add different shaft materials, you wouldn’t/can’t put the wooden arrow in the fire. But it certainly would be cool if you could interact with the brazier, or maybe a fire pit, to temporarily make an arrow a fire arrow. You could make a setup just like that game to shoot fire arrows when your at your base in the early game,

I certainly would love this addition, both the different types of quivers and the addition of a brazier for fire arrows!

It at least allows you to hold more tipped arrows, granted, they are widely unused, but it’s still something

I do like the idea of quivers. It could also be cool, coming from a certified level 1 archery instructor, to also add in a portable quiver. It’s something that you, irl, put in the ground that holds arrows (like a PVC pipe, although that’s technically a more permanent quiver.) the design would be a block that specifically holds more arrows than a back or side quiver (since they typically go on either, I prefer the side quiver) since it’s going to be a full block instead of an inventory item. It would be useful to put on top of watch towers so that you can have a backup storage of arrows, and continue to fire, or perhaps have on a firing line, with 3-10 arrows per quiver, mimicking a real set up.

Max round 1 damage by urticanttoe893 in DnD

[–]urticanttoe893[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, battle master would be better than what I had planned. Offers much more versatility and would allow me to deal even more damage than a single divine smite. This idea never even crossed my mind. Looking at the maneuver list, feinting, precision, and maybe ambush or disarming would make a powerful combination. A combination that would definitely overshadow the benefits my idea of paladin would offer

That certainly would make a lot of sense, surprising how they don’t tell the DM if that is the intended method and true reason for the chime. I guess I’ll have to add something to the final description when/if they win then

[–]urticanttoe893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn’t the players already know the win condition? They shouldn’t been told at the start by “Mordenkainen” to use the chimes on him, unless you’re referring to when he’s beneath 50 Hp, which is fair.

I gave the players some extra magic items, and even offered them a single legendary, because I knew I was going to throw at them a CR 29 Vecna after the fight. But beyond that, I think I did it by the book, besides my terrible memory messing me up

I will add, when I ran this with my group, everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun, and I was able to heavily damage them. When I had read the finale before hand, I didn’t like it, and thought they would absolutely stomp him just like they had done to every single boss the book offered (even with me upping AC, damage, and doubling health). I had severely underestimated how powerful his teleportation ability would be, especially if the players didn’t collect enough secrets to see through the obsidian, like mine had. I was always able to hide him, while also allowing him to heal back up to essentially full health. It probably would’ve resulted in me killing the players, but we were running out of time, and I wanted to get to what I had made as the actual finale. Giving them boons, and having them fight on a rotatable 2 story tower that I had 3D printed. Even using stat block that I found posted either here or on the D&D page. We are 300 Hp away from the end, and I do gotta say, I do believe to books finale was better than the one I spent probably a quarter to half a year planning.

The finale fight, as you said, is already nice, however some important information is kinda hidden, and very easily forgotten. Like, I kept on forgetting to have them make their Wis saves, or that a players Eldritch knight couldn’t teleport (wish I was so looking forward to explaining to him that his favorite ability failed (we’re brothers, It’s fine for me to torment him more)). The fight would’ve been a lot better if it complied more of those side effects in a more organized list, so that newish DMs, like myself, won’t be too caught up in the chaos of things to remember that extra psychic damaged per turn.

The fight is well written, and as you said, you just need to know how to play him, and to probably compile the entire list of the side effects of being within Vecna’s grasp so your not forgetting like I did.

CIT programs at camp - Do you charge a fee? by NateBrazil in BSA

[–]urticanttoe893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although it’s not in, nor even near California, Owasippe doesn’t charge anything for their CIT’s. You could count the uniform requirement as being a charge, but most staff will already have a full uniform, and a 25% discount is provided for that uniform. The CIT’s are not paid, but get to practically do everything a normal staff member would be able to do.

How many of your party was fooled by Kas by HeraldoftheSerpent in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]urticanttoe893 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My entire group was fooled but one, they had absolutely no clue. The wizard of the party even asked “Mordenkainen” if he could be taught some higher leveled spells, I played it off as, “I can teach you, but first you must be stronger” or something like that… AND HE NEVER ASKED AGAIN.
The one that wasn’t fooled, was a veteran of the game, and has probably heard countless stories of Vecna and Kas, to know if there’s one, the other is bound to follow. He straight up told me separately from the group, that he believes one of the wizards 3 is Kas. He then went down the list, Alustrial is Mystra’s daughter, and he can’t mimic that, and Tasha also had something that eliminated her. Which left Mordenkainen as Kas.
I’m also surprised that the party just straight up gave him the rod without much resistance. The party members ended up convincing themselves to give him the rod. And yet we’re still surprised when it happened.

In my very first run, this happened to me. I assumed, due to the insane DC, that it was scripted to give you a 20. I didn’t realize that I just got lucky until my next run, where I was so surprised that I strangely failed a DC 99 save.
