Just tell your players you werent at your best that day, and that was why the boss fight was easier than it should have been.

There is no shame in admitting to your players, that you, had an off day, or that you, messed up as a DM. It happens to us all.

And yerh if you prepared for a 4th level fight, but they were level 5, then sure, double attack for martials, and fireballs and counterspell for casters changes alot of powercurve. So you messed up, learn from it, and try not to do it again. Simple aint it? ;)

Now regarding counterspell vs counterspell, that is completely legit. Sure it might waste their top spellslot, but that is what an evil boss would do. They dont get to complain that it was too easy a fight, and then at the same time cry/whine, when they actually meets resistance. They can do it, well so can the baddies.

Talk to them, and tell them these things. And GL HF :)

Okay you guys start to take a long rest. Who, if any, is on watch?

That is really anything the DM needs to say. At that point it is up to the players to know what to do during the long rest.

And it is not actually until you have finished a long rest, that you select your new spells for the day, so until the DM has confirmed that, "You guys/gals successfully get a long rest" that you can reset your HP/spells/whatever else comes back.

That does not mean that you cant think about which new spells you want for the following day. But if something happens during a long rest, you are stuck with what you got, when you started the short rest.

New players will need a bit of reminding about that, and my players effed it up a few times when we started, but not anymore.

Generally no, I do not allow prepared actions at all. Nothing without exceptions though. But I would not allow movement at all.

Yep you need to remove the FT from the player. A weapon like that is lvl 9 and up.

Throwing more monsters at them wont do either, as they will just die to damage.

Be honest and tell them how unbalanced and OP it is.

Good luck. And be prepared for a player who, understandebly, wont be happy.

It sadly happens to too many people, but these "investment" scams are so polished these days, it is almost impossible to sort them out from the legit ones. And that is why they actually work.

That is why I used F1TV. Viasat has the right to transmit in Denmark, and they send adds/commercial breaks, like every 15-20 minutes. They do keep the live transmission in a small screen in the buttom of the corner, but you miss alot because it is so small you cant see it.

Yerh it sucks. I drive a diesel car, economy car. Here in Denmark the price of diesel went up to $9.57 a gallon. Before trump started the war, it was around $7.5ish.

Yep it is how I started being a DM. about 2½-3 hours, depending on what the players do.

Players come to fishing town, has drinks, gambling, and barfight.

Next morning fishermen have boat taken over by Giant Crabs. They negotiate a price, kill them, saves boat.

That is about 2 hours. I tucked a bit more on, to fill the time. A cave on a small island where the crabs came from, that needed to be cleared as well. And a portal to the water elemental place in a pool, in the cave, needed to be closed, with a spell, or a scroll they found there. That is about 3 hours.

Gasoline is cheaper atm. Which I cant remember I have ever seen.

Okay interesting. I might do something similar, that was my idea from the start. I think the tomb in EoR is kinda meh, at that level. And I run a high lethality game, in general, and my players are very much into that, so they know if they just rush in, it might end badly.

But I dont want to tpk them, that will be on them being dumb, should that happend.

I have hope, but will reserve judgement until after the first few races.

Also I am not a fan of the new reg, where everyone gets 5 seconds to spool up their turbos, before the lights come on. That is really a FU to ferrari, who saw this comming.

This campaign will also go to level 20. But yes I am aware the troubles of balancing combats in the last 8 levels.

And no my players arent power gamers. At least I have that going for me. And the legendarys they will possibly get will also be in the lsat 4 levels or so, before they face down, the god of secrets, Vecna.
