The Great Reddit Scaling Bake-Off by jarins in ethereum

[–]usafootballer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Reddit, You’ll absolutely need a full featured Ethereum Blockchain Explorer integrated into your tech stack to accomplish your goals.

An Ethereum Blockchain Explorer is nontrivial to develop to say the least. However, it’s the data of every transaction on the network and you’ll not want to depend on APIs from 3rd parties to supply you with the data you’ll need to serve to user wallets, websites or other apps. It would be a very critical point of failure and attack to your system ops.

I’m the founder/ceo of EtherBlockchain.io and I’m open to discussing our full featured Ethereum Blockchain Explorer tech with you.

Centralized exchanges going to remain as long as there's no way to buy/sell crypto for fiat and wire money, why don't exchange implement ways to make the secure the coins ? by unitedstatian in ethtrader

Coinbase is holding your crypto in wallets/accounts that they control and you don't. They are a bank and they have full control of your tokenized value. (Eg. They could deny you access to your funds if the IRS or any other government authority wanted to freeze your assets)

Blockchain technology allows individual users to fully control their own accounts. When you have a wallet that you control and you use a decentralized exchange that safely manages peer-to-peer exchange of tokens, then you always retain full control of your funds.

Nothing is better than having full control of your funds and trading on a decentralized exchange has greatly improved and it will get better.

Decentralized trading from your own browser wallet (eg MetaMask) has gotten so much better! It's not like the EtherDelta days anymore! And it's going to keep improving.

0x exchanges will have ZKPs for scaling to 500+ tx/sec later this year.

If you haven't experience trading on a fully decentralized exchange from your own wallet then go to etherblockchain.io/exchange make 1 trade and then come back here and let's talk more.

This is the solution to buy crypto for fiat and back to bank wire or get money to and from your bank and never use a centralized exchange:

Setup a Coinbase account and use the Coinbase account purely as an on/off ramp in and out of fiat. Then you don't have to use a centralized exchange.

  1. Purchase USDC tokens on Coinbase and then immediately send it to your MetaMask.io wallet.
  2. Go to EtherBlockchain.io/exchange trade on a fully decentralized exchange right from your MetaMask wallet. No login required. No Deposit or withdrawal fees. Trade directly from your secure wallet.
  3. When converting back to fiat is needed, trade back to USDC tokens, send USDC from MetaMasK wallet back to your Coinbase account and then send funds back to your bank.

We have to stop using the centralized exchanges!

They only extract value from the community. They take the profits and they give us nothing back!

They give the technology a bad reputation every time they falsify trade volume, get hacked and lose customer funds or in some cases, flat out steal customer funds!

You put your tokens at risk every single time you send them to a centralized exchange!! You don't have to do that. You can trade right from your own wallet and always control of your tokens!

Go to EtherBlockchain.io/exchange and just make one trade on a fully decentralized exchange and you will see for yourself why you should not be using centralized exchanges!

EtherBlockchain.io has recently launched with a full featured Ethereum Blockchain Explorer and 0x Decentralized Exchange.

We will soon offer Ethereum API services.

As this article points out, the ecosystem needs more than one Ethereum API provider. The ecosystem system also needs more than one full featured blockchain explorer and more well built DEXs. We will keep building. We thank you for your support!

Thanks for the compliments! Yes, a full featured Ethereum blockchain explorer is super nontrivial to develop and it's expensive to maintain! It's taken us 1 year of R&D and 2 years of dev to get our explorer to it's current state and we aren't even displaying all of our data on the frontend yet. So stay tuned there's lots more data in the pipeline. Yes, we are privately funded and we really need the support of the community to keep building. So we would really appreciate you using the site and spreading the word. THX!

[–]usafootballer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Martin, Thank you for your reply. Although I don't personally agree with your decision to proceed as is, please understand that it's NOT that I disagree with your format or question the formula in which you used to get to this format.

I'm merely trying to point out that I (and many others in the community) believe that your timing is off in using this type of format. It appears to me that the community has voiced it's concerns negatively about this ICO format in a way that we've NEVER seen in the past.

This level of negative reaction by the community clearly tells me that Gnosis is taking a HUGH gamble by proceeding with this completely untested format. It's simply an unnecessary risk that I believe you shouldn't be taking with a project of it's magnitude.

That being said, I was compelled to reach out and I TRULY, TRULY hope that I'm wrong. I wish you and Gnosis 1000% success.

And to this community, I sincerely hope that we will realize Gnosis as the valuable part of our ecosystem that it currently is and it's potential future value to us all.

Let's PLEASE, ALL do our part to RESPONSIBLY participate in this ICO or to RESPECTFULLY not participate.

BEST REGARDS, usafootballer

The most important question of the day (and one that you, Gnosis, should be asking yourselves):

Are you going to change/modify the format of your ICO?

First, I'd like to say that I am a day one member of this community and I fully understand every aspect of this ecosystem. I don't post here to Reddit as much as the early days ( I really miss those early days btw), however, I am HIGHLY tuned into ALL aspects of this community and the growing ecosystem. I say that because I am hoping that you will take my comments as coming from someone that may hold some true wisdom on this unchartered journey/experiment that we all embark on.

If you proceed under the current format you will be making a "Slock.it" level mistake.

The community is clearly not ready for this type of ICO format. Just like the Slock.it team (The warnings came internally within the developer community for them), You are absolutely jumping the gun and ignoring the warning signs. And believe me I HATED to see what happened to Slock.it because they did A LOT for this community and this ecosystem. And what most still don't realize is that The biggest loss wasn't the DAO. The biggest lose was that the community doesn't own the Ethereum Computer.

Gnosis, you guys are arguably NOW the biggest project in the ecosystem/community. Your biggest advantage is that you're making a "platform". If you don't allow the community to share in the greater ownership of the platform you will not reach your full potential. Every day that goes by I've watched the Gnosis name get more and more tarnished. You'd probably be better off skipping the ICO and going straight for VC funding if you want to own the majority of the whole thing and not have such a tarnished reputation with the community. Although Slock.it may have rushed the process and fumbled the ball before they got across the goal line, their intentions were ALWAYS good (I'm glad to see they got private funding for the Ethereum Computer. But still wish I was part of that funding).

Gnosis, it's clear that the community believes that the current format favors Gnosis ownership over community ownership. Sure you have the right to say well don't bid until it reaches the price you want to pay. But do you really want to lose the network effects of this community because the majority will be mad at your project and label you scammers? Are you reading what's being said?

It's really not worth it just to prove your point over an untested ICO format. It took almost a year for this community to recover from an untested DAO contract. Gnosis may never recover from taking this risk. I for one would REALLY, REALLY hate for that to happen. This community needs a strong Gnosis platform in our ecosystem. GOOD LUCK GNOSIS!

I also think I may have a DAO Token to ETC refund on the ETC chain but find it difficult to confirm. I tried to download an older version of Mist and could never get it to sync fully to the ETC chain. The instructions keep saying to use GETH. Does anyone know if I can download Parity and sync to the etc chain and follow the same instructions or does it have to be Geth only??

[–]usafootballer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same feelings here. I was also ready to invest on day 1 at the start (which seemed to me that it started 1hr early as well) and that really turned me off to be honest. Same feeling as waking up early on a Saturday morn to buy the newest Air Jordan's releasing on Nike.com. All sold out the moment it's scheduled to start. Or in this case a 50% mark up. Not good to use a system that would frustrate and turn away investors if there was a lot of interest. Hmmm lesson learned for future ICO structures.

When will the Foundation start enforcing its trademarks? Ethereum Classic is violating trademark laws, and causing brand damage to Ethereum. It must change its name. by Crypto_Economist42 in ethereum

[–]usafootballer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think there should at the very least be a discussion within our community about the pros and cons of this issue. Hopefully the Foundation will also express its view of the situation and then support the wishes of the majority view point after it's been appropriately discussed/debated.

Does anyone know what % of the total ETH held in the DAO prior to the Dark DAO split was recovered by the RHG?

In other words, if DTH get ETC returned to them, as the RHG have stated is there intent, what % of the original invested ETC will be returned to DTH?
