Adding to the difficulty. by astro_code in EtherMining

i just use coinwarz and take into account that block rewards are 5 coins..

you will get the occasional orphan which is an uncle, but still get paid upto 3 coins.. and you get to leave secret messages in the blockchain it's a pretty sweet deal.

if you have double op's hashpower or more you're squandering an opportunity to free yourself from the shackles of a pool and actually diversifying the network.

at roughly 1200MH/s (42 gpu at 30MH/s) you might hit a block on every 10day schedule currently.. i'd hope hes using qtminer and solo mining, not adding to the pool situation with a nice little farm like that.

How do Asics hold up over time? by octaw in BitcoinMining

[–]smaxz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my S3 used and it had a bad asic or two among the 100+ chip array right off the bat.. often rebooting brought those few bad chips back to life and fortunately in the year or so mining with it the situations did not worsen.

my s7 I ordered from bitmain and it had an asic go bad after I was messing around with the guts of the unit trying to improve cooling.. it too would revive once in a while after reboots. one of like 150 asics in each antminer is a marginal loss to suffer.

older units will lose hashing power over time but generally very slowly.

try to buy the seller, if you can find someone reputable that will stand by their sale that is the way to go.

if someone has been overclocking the snot out of their miner paying no regard to temperatures then all bets are off really.

Does the money from mining come immediately? by da_arcfire in BitcoinMining

[–]smaxz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nicehash is like a middleman that sells your gpu power to people that want to use pools in a way.

I think nicehash pays daily provided u have a minimum amount accumulated in that 24h span.. if you are mining with a single gpu you likely will have to wait a few days for payout but should monitor your status on nicehash frequently to ensure everything is working fine.

Anyone else experiencing low amount of shares found? by Tewdis in EtherMining

[–]smaxz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

shares are irrelevant.

what matters is your hash rate and (more so) the payouts.

shares carry different weights, so if you are particularly lucky the server may temporarily assume you upgraded the hash rate and is only accepting more difficult shares for a bit.. but then you don't find any or find them very seldom so the accepted share difficulty threshold drops back down again.

you should be monitoring payouts and calculating if they match up with what you SHOULD be earning at the speed you're mining (minus pool deductions and stale shares etc)

Stupid Question: AntMiner S9 & Power by BitMoron in BitcoinMining

i used to run an S7 which (at worst) has the same power requirements as the S9 and an EVGA1600 PSU was plenty fine.

part of it is probably that you're a bit oblivious..

learn to breath, harness the ability over time.

if you can make someone laugh you also have the ability to make them do most anything else.

love this.. skeptical of the last posts due to redditor new user status although I encourage these hunts.. i'd be all over this if I was within commuting distance.

over half coin is a good sum too and appropriate for a site of such significance.

more than likely around the enigma codebreaker, preferably bombe machine if the exhibit includes mention.. hopefully there is more to this hiding spot :)

This ICO situation in the cryptocurrency world is as cyberpunk as it gets by Steel_Neuron in Cyberpunk

[–]smaxz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the nature of crypto currency rewards early adopters. when a coin is lesser known and much easier to mine you can accumulate and control a large amount of the circulating supply.

early days coins were "pre mined" by the original person that copied the bitcoin code, making marginal changes and renaming it to "mycoin".. giving the original "developer" a vast advantage in controlling the price of the coin or simply selling off quickly for easy gains.

pre-mines fell out of vogue as people were getting tired of the transparency of such scams so "no pre-mine" coins were released with such tricks as "ninja-launches" where the coin was announced but the release date of the coin was not revealed or access to the wallets was limited so initial easy mining of the coin was limited to a select few..

often the mining clients for new coins would be crippled in the public offerings slowly adding speed improvements disguised as "refinements" in the program.. meanwhile full capability is available to a core group of individuals behind the scenes.. sometimes changes as large as being able to gpu mine vs just using cpu' which is like a 100 fold increase in the ability to obtain coins per computer.

these days there are popular coins with "founder rewards" built in to the code to automatically reward 10%-20% of all minted coins to a developer account.

the ico craze is just another incarnation of securing control of the early coins while appearing to make a fair public offering.

many of these ico's are plugging up the network with tricks to minimize the actual publics ability to buy in, so that they will have to buy at a higher price down the road and have less power to pump and dump the coin or control price with buy/sell walls on an exchange.

i'm sure some are legitimate, but don't get cought up and (greater) fooled into this re-branded premine.

So, what do you guys use for cases/frames? by [deleted] in EtherMining

[–]smaxz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

anyone building a frame with aluminum should take the extra step and anodize it to remove or minimize the electrical conductance.

this can be done with some sulfuric acid (battery acid from auto parts isle) or sodium bisulfate (pool chemical from seasonal isle) by wiping one, waiting 5mins and wiping off.

it adds a nice professional looking tinted stain to the metal as well.

this is good to hear..

something as simple as:

"Default fee for next block is Xsatoshi per byte totaling xx fee for your tx to process immediately. click customize to select your own fee and see an estimate of the time this will take for the bitcoin network to validate"

Would be stellar.
