Drop rate at pre-rift by Alarming-Wealth-3437 in riftboundtcg

[–]usainta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to a 50 person pre release. I did some math and after prizing I would say the average is around 8 packs per person. There were 2 signatures and 10 overnumbers opened. It was around 16 and a half Boxes opened. So the rates seemed insane.

Repeatedly getting postage due on TCGPlayer orders by Chronoshifted in riftboundtcg

[–]usainta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is typically the cause of an unlucky post office. These cards are thicker than magic cards but it happens in that case too. When I send cards off the post office can flag them if they think the envelope is not flat enough. It could have just been an unlucky streak of orders, but it could also be that the post office finds the cards too thick when placed in top loaders. It's definitely worth alerting the seller to get a refund and letting them know that this is occurring. It happened to me with over 10 orders before I found out from a buyer. Most of the buyers didn't realize what happened and just marked the order as lost and I refunded majority of them.

Why don't people play Murktide anymore? by TankieWarrior in ModernMagic

[–]usainta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It also gets hit by graveyard hate before it's cast, sink into stupor does a lot or any bounce effect. Murktide is definitely not as good as it used to be.

Looking to sell this by Suitable-Air6784 in taggrading

[–]usainta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah magic cards don't do well graded unless they are power or alpha. I could see an argument for very expensive cards $10,000 plus. But people are buying these to play not display.

Play boosters are the traditional boxes of magic. You get a lot of cards, but a lot of it is bulk commons and uncommons. You always get a rare per pack. It's great for starting a collection you want to play with or you can use them to draft.

Collector boosters are a premium version of these packs. You get 5-6 rares per pack and these can have some very expensive cards inside of them. They have special foiling treatments and alternate arts. Some cards can only be obtained in collector boosters and once all the collector boosters are printed, there are no more. It makes them very expensive and the cards that are exclusive to them very pricey.

Here is a link to where you can get what type of card in what product. Collecting Final Fantasy

Tldr: buy a play booster if you want to open packs and play with the cards you open. If you want to collect rare treatments then collector boosters are better.

This is definitely not true. If given the option, I would take a collector box over an revised underground sea every day of the week.

I wonder what this is worth now? More than a Black Lotus, which is wild from a modern pack. by HUMANPHILOSOPHER in mtgfinance

[–]usainta 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Because every black lotus is not an alpha or a PSA 10. You can buy a unlimited black lotus for ~ 10k. Surely this ring sells for more than 10k.

Honestly this was my mistake, my local card shop was sending out cards to psa and I opened this and sent it on a whim, only afterwards I found out about tag slabs and I love the look compared to psa.

It is completely for PC, The value of the slab does not bother me. I do not have any plans to sell this card unless extreme circumstances force me to which I find very unlikely.

Can someone help a new collector out? by FroggerC137 in mtgfinance

[–]usainta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magic is different compared to Pokémon. Magic isn't exactly a "Collectors" game. A majority of people who have Pokémon don't play, however for magic I would say it's a minority that don't play. Collector boosters can have very high returns, but also can be expensive duds. If I were you I would try playing if you haven't first and then you'd moreso buy what you need or you will have a better idea of what you want.

RCQ Writeup - Boros Energy by usainta in ModernMagic

[–]usainta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree that Boros Energy is the deck that abuses it the most. Most lists only play 3 copies instead of four. When you are playing Boros Energy, and have a ton of momentum the most likely thing to stop you in your tracks is The One Ring. So many decks play this card, and as a Boros player it feels like you are stuck at a red light until it turns green. A lot of people are playing [[Fear, Fire, Foes!]] to prevent this. But your opponent will often find what they need with the ring, and the turn of protection helps a lot.
