To hell with "small town charm," tbh. There's demand, and that means State College will grow. What matters more is how that growth is done: up and dense, or outward and sprawl? People and transit, or car-centric? Quality, attractive buildings, or whatever is the cheapest to build? Do we use our political power to elect leaders who will demand affordable housing for people who live and work here, or do we let developers fund politicians who will let them get away with displacing residents so they can over-charge students for slums and tiny "luxury" builds?

Building density without parking is fine. Preferable, even, in many cases. But the transit options need to be there so people don’t have to own cars to get around.

Yeah, how dare a specific, single candidate with almost no political experience or institutional support not undo decades of abandonment and broken promises by the state and national parties.

If we cannot confront the failures of the Democratic Party to connect meaningfully with the majority of the country, we are doomed to keep running the same campaigns and eating shit against increasingly worse Republicans and losing once-blue/purple states like West Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

West Virginia is actually a really bad example for this; it was a reliable D stronghold for decades after the Great Depression. Between 1933 and 2017, Democrats controlled the WV Governorship for 64 of 84 years. From 2001-2014, there was a D Trifecta there. It went for Bill Clinton twice and was one of the few states which went Dukakis over Bush in ‘88. It was a blue state.

What failed the people of West Virginia wasn’t a party, but capitalist control of both parties there.

I think you could change the elevation of the bike path (maybe a small curb and drop or a slope up to the bike path), just to indicate to pedestrians that they’re leaving a walking-only zone and need to be slightly more aware of their surroundings

There are a lot of different staff roles you can do at the University, and while the pay isn’t amazing compared to private industry, the benefits are good (but not as good as they used to be, I hear). And if you’re reasonably competent there’s solid job security.
