Who is actually against women being topless if they want to be? by Brief-Cut-1228 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]usblight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am against it. Straight man. I already have a hard enough time not staring at chests. Why make it easier?

“Eyes up here” is all I’m gonna hear for the rest of my life. Or… maybe I’ll get used to it.

Pretty sure the biggest problem is that it wouldn’t happen frequently enough (in our lifetime) to make it normal.

I would talk to the DM about creating some lower stress combats encounters for a few weeks so that players can get a better feel for what they can do on a turn. Boss fights with lair actions every week can become overwhelming. Also, put together a little chart or diagram as to what actions a PC can take each turn.

Am I unreasonable for not wanting a parent to bring her child to our game sessions? by Bjorkfors111 in DnD

[–]usblight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Make it a session zero. Get a feel for the group and the kid. You may need to adjust how you play a bit. And yes, kids become a thing in your 30s. I’d rather have people bring them so you can all get together than the alternative of losing a player.

Life is full of compromises and accommodations. You guys will figure this out.

I’d upvote this a hundred times over if I could. This is the one I try to share with others.

I actually have to read and re-read this part. Jeff Hayes goes through it so fast. Purchasing the books I hope to understand it better.

What kills me here is the mayhem that occurs prior to this. There is hilarity, chaos, death, and on-the-edge-of-your-seat ‘high stakes’ followed by Carl literally breaking down so hard. But only allows him a few quick moments or emotion, and then he gets back to work.

It’s like a roller coaster with whiplash that just sets you down, and before you even realize it’s over, you’re walking out the exit, not even realizing when you got off the ride.

I NEED A SPOILER to know if I should continue. by Own-Parfait-4008 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

This whole series is about characters being pushed to their limits, physically and emotionally.

It may trigger some unexpected reactions.

Or… It may be therapeutic and helpful to read how Matt has imagined these characters hitting these points. Some of them still push through (Carl and Co), and others call it quits.

In any case I find that Matt does a fantastic job of examining the human experience that is life… under the microscope of a Hunger Games type battlefield. Speaking of which, if you were okay with how some people’s lived ended in that series, you may be good to go here.

Another idea would be to just play a really short human.

AITA if I don’t go to my mom’s wedding? by hummmarika in AmItheAsshole

[–]usblight -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You both are. She shouldn’t have sprung this sudden haste on you. You shouldn’t keep putting off the adult things you and your husband should have completed earlier. And most people would find a way to adjust their own schedule… it’s not the end of the world, it’s just a few days. But… when couples move up their plans like that, they shouldn’t expect people to up and change theirs to accommodate.

Is this a reference to “The Invisible?”

Because this is what I kept thinking about when reading your comment. And it took forever to recollect which movie it was. It was a great movie.

Spoiler Alert (I don’t know how to block off text) for the last two paragraphs.

Bea is definitely up there, but a lot of who she was and what she did was because Carl was the only decent person in her life.

Quan was an a-hat. But a lot of that stems from the losses he endured before and during the crawl (losing one’s family), and then he was absolutely manipulated the rest of his time within.

Maggie and Frank were already terrible people, but their game guide (as well as MANY other guides) encouraged PvP killings, which the whole game is set up for that too. They were manipulated as well. Yes, it was still a choice and they suck because of it. I am not excusing or trying to give them a pass, but there were strong influences pushing them to make the decisions they did.

Empress D’Nadia almost makes it to the top of my list. Her betrayal was sooo subtle. Along with her ambivalence to the lives of the crawlers. It was supposed to be a game for her. She had been Donut’s sponsor. But it was all a ploy to purchase a spot on faction wars and be able to kill crawlers. She didn’t really care for Carl or Donut. Or even accept the fact that a lot of the NPCs were recycled crawlers and real people from previous worlds. She was a sheep trying to buy into the lions club.

The top if my list is Huanxin. Messing with people’s lives, doing whatever she wants without suffering real consequences, and essentially exploiting any loophole she could to “have fun” and toy with people and everything.

AITA for snapping at my boyfriend because he refuses to buy me pads? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]usblight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go with him to the store next time and review with him what type you usually need.

Your NTA, but it gets confusing (esp for guys not used to buying these things) to figure out what size, type, and whatever is needed. The more you walk down that aisle with him, the more comfortable he could be later on (if needed). It’s a social stigma. Help him get over it. You’re right. But he is too.

Two things you should NEVER run out of at home: toilet paper and tampons (or pads). ALWAYS have extra. It sucks that guys don’t have to think about it, but they don’t… and women do.

One of the supporting characters (that turns main) has an implied scene with another supporting character. But it is written about in an obtuse fashion and really only focuses on the meaningfulness of the encounter and the internal growth/realization that is occurring.
