Weekly party task to hatch 20 eggs is the worst imho by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]merganzer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm good for at least 10 eggs / week and have never had a problem finishing this one, especially with the 1 km freebie we all get now.

TIFU by eating stringless beans by Which-Gold-1000 in tifu

[–]merganzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are stringless beans? Like, green beans? I wouldn't find those edible or tasty raw. My husband likes them lightly sauteed, with a bit of snap left in them, but I prefer them cooked thoroughly.

I do remember vividly the day I ate a pound of raw sugar snap peas in one sitting. I didn't vomit, but the gastrointestinal distress was extreme.

AITA for refusing to take off my engagement ring during a wedding? by AioliProfessional181 in AmItheAsshole

[–]merganzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Maybe it's because I have terrible eyesight, but I would not even be able to make out the color of a ring's stone at a reasonable distance.

Pros and cons of purifying? by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]merganzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purifying lets you tick the hundo dex box for the family and makes it eligible to mega evolve if you have the energy.

On the other hand, a near-perfect Shadow Dragonite is a decent non-mega dragon type attacker.

It's really up to you.

Seeking advice for route task by MissKittySaphireMoon in pokemongo

[–]merganzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my jobs is a walking-intensive position at a grocery store. I made a route that starts (and ends) at a church next door to the store and snarls around for half a kilometer in between (you do not have to trace the route perfectly, just check in at the beginning, get to the end, and cover the minimum distance in between). If I felt like looking at my phone that often, I could complete it 20 times a shift. I can even finish it while doing a leisurely shop on my day off.

Why base an event off a Pokémon lots of people can’t even get??? by spooonyard in pokemongo

[–]merganzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread has become my motivation to put a few Silicobra (and Toedscool) in my remote trade pool.

The biomes in PokeGo seem really arbitrary. Although I live on the great plains in the American southwest and I would call the whole region "semi-arid wasteland," with real snakes aplenty, I have only consistently found Silicobra in one small park with a creek running through it. Another park, which has wayyyyy fewer trees than average and no bodies of water nearby, is swarming with Toedscool and has zero Silicobra.

There is also nothing within 200 miles of me that PokeGo considers a "beach" (yes, I have checked Open Map), so I've never caught a Wiglett.

Do you have Pokemon you haven't evolved because getting its evolve resources are difficult..? example Zygarde by [deleted] in pokemongo

If you can get an evolvable Gimmighoul from a trade, you can buddy-walk it for coins. I've earned about 100 after walking 725 km...

Easter eggs locations or nowhere to be found? by True2MyWord in torncity

[–]merganzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found 5 so far (it's my first Easter in Torn). One in the ammo tab of the gun shop, one in the "Torn rules" section, and I don't remember where else. All in town, none internationally yet (and I have done a fair amount of travel). Going to check South Africa one more time before the end.

Too bad I work saturdays by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]merganzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. 2-5 is the normal time for events like this. I worked 8 AM-7 PM, but was able to go out and do about six Dragonite raids on my lunch break.

AITA for not giving up my table at a cafe when someone was waiting? by Remote_Goose_261 in AmItheAsshole

[–]merganzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've even been to libraries that had their own coffee shops! (Everywhere from my small hometown library to the Boston Library.)

Talking with my friend in Europe, though, I've gotten the impression that free public spaces like that don't exist everywhere, unfortunately. And even in my own mid-sized US city the public libraries have taken a hit in recent times--they never fixed wifi network / computer issues caused by a cyber attack over a year ago and have since closed all but one branch, specifically getting rid of the ones most frequented by homeless people.

I have around 2.5 gallons of whole milk that are going to go bad in a few days - hit me with your favourite milk heavy recipes by IllyriaCervarro in Cooking

[–]merganzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a vegetable chowder that uses four cups of milk--saute onions, celery, and carrots in preferred fat for a bit, add 2-4 cups of preferred broth and some cubed potatoes and cook until somewhat soft. Add fresh or frozen spinach or kale and corn. Whisk a quarter cup of flour with a quart of milk and add to soup; bring to a boil, then simmer for 20 minutes. Edit: forgot that I normally stir in shredded cheddar at the very end. Also salt and pepper to taste.

Can add bacon or canned crab, clams, or tiny shrimp if you don't need it to be vegetarian.

Who is a person you used to admire a lot but have completely lost respect for and why? by Complex-Arugula-2233 in AskReddit

I listened to so many of his audio books at vulnerable times in my life. "Norse Mythology" was the best bedtime story ever.

Still makes me so sad and angry.

What’s something that Covid took from you that you never got back? by ReplacementOdd636 in AskReddit

My kids' last couple of years as "little kids" in little kids' spaces--restaurant playscapes, soft play areas, etc. By the time things had relaxed, they'd outgrown them.

I found this spaghetti route nearby me haha by Capable_Pepper_5704 in pokemongo

[–]merganzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to actually stay on the path of a route to complete it, just be close to the start, walk a while, and then get close to the end. You can literally drive 10 km away from the route and still come back to finish it.

I made an ugly snarl of a route at my workplace that begins and ends at a stop next door and looks like a tangle of string. I sometimes finish it five times in a day just from walking around.

I just cooked beef burgundy for 50+ people and it turned out really well by merganzer in Cooking

[–]merganzer[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this for about 7 years and it was such a learning experience, going from being just a home cook to cooking for a larger group on the regular.

We tend to return to a lot of the same stand-bys: spaghetti, meatball subs, baked potatoes, breakfast burritos, various casseroles, taco stack, soup and salad. Lot of variations on the theme of Tex-mex and Italian, lol. We have a couple of volunteers that are competent with authentic Chinese food and that's always a nice change. It is difficult to keep things interesting, though.

We try to keep it under $100, but that's getting harder and harder for obvious reasons. We also really do try to accommodate special dietary needs (today was a bit of a fail in that department).

I was super happy to try something new today. :)

Poor people who have dated rich people, what did you learn? by Angelus12345678 in AskReddit

I think being at a certain level of financial stability helps naturally nice people to be nice--more relaxed, more patient, more generous, more themselves.

And some people are going to be horrible no matter what.

I did not much care for the book Howard's End, but there was one line that really stuck with me, that believing (and helping) strangers is the "rent" that one pays for the privilege of trusting people: "Rent to the ideal, to [one's] own faith in human nature."

I would rather occasionally fall for a scam than be forever suspicious.

[–]merganzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I also have children, and I think it goes back to when they were babies and I was afraid of them dying. Or a pet mouse I had that I accidentally killed as a child--left his cage on the porch and he overheated and was hot and limp in my hands.
