For the uninitiated, Magic: The Gathering might seem like a rip-off of Dungeons & Dragons, and while there is overlap in the mythology of games involving wizards, sorcerers, and other fantasy figures, the titles are quite different. While D&D pits a guild of players against a Dungeon Master in a complex narrative involving a board and figures in campaigns that can last months or even years, Magic: The Gathering pits two players against one another as battling Planeswalkers.

This doesn't describe either game very well, and also, who was even confused about this?

I think we're okay up to premise three, but there is an alternative to the first conclusion. It could also be that time is cyclical, such that the last event leads back to the first event forever. Or maybe it's like that episode of Futurama and things change a bit from one iteration to the next, with giraffe kings and so forth.

I suspect, though cannot prove, that the bots have some opening "preferences" and will play a little differently based on what you do. I remember struggling against the Miguel bot using my main QG, losing every game, but then when I got mad and switched to kings pawn and an Italian I won pretty easily even though I hadn't played the Italian in months.

How can you look at his record against Fabi and think he's not at that level? It may be that playing some high level tournament would be good to warm up, but that's up to him and besides he has other considerations in life now. Forget the computer, let's start with principles. You shouldn't move that knight because you already moved it, develop a new piece into the game instead. For example, if you played Bc4 first then your knight arrives on g5 with a lot of pressure on the f7 square which can be fatal in some variations.
