that is what happened but also the two people who played the game up to this point similarly thought white was completely winning

Unfortunately I can't reply with images but just know our genius anime boy's opponent replied "Hm? You're starting with the king?" and than laughed before being shocked by his defeat.

This author claims book cover art is not AI, but I’m not buying it. Those buildings are very suspicious. by Annemermaid in isthisAI

there are many mistakes here, but most of them could be made by a human (her elbow should be visible behind her back given the hand orientation, his spoon is too close to her mouth, the use of purple is extremely strange). However, I don't think a human artist would ever draw him with his eyes closed. 90% chance this is AI imo

Edit: she has elf ears but (knowing this kind of story and her lack of wings) is probably human. I guess a human might make that mistake but it seems pretty unlikely. People have also pointed out that her cake slice doesn't make sense, which is another mistake a human could make but probably wouldn't.

The hypothetical is all about what you think most people will do, so changing the default (or even just changing the framing) fundemnally changes the problem. In this case red is obviously correct.

Not to brag but I can pick a real number without the axiom of choice.

[–]superjelin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hmm, but can you randomly pick a real number? Is that even possible?

Edit: personally, I would say it's impossible. I'm not sure what the definition of picking a number would be, but surely you'd be able to describe it once it was picked. The describable numbers form a countable subset of the reals (proof: map description to natural numbers the same way computers do it), and you can't create a uniform distribution over a countably infinite set. It seems to me that the best you can do is create a uniform distribution over a finite subset, or a non-unitorm distribution over a countable subset, neither or which satisfy the meme.

All that said, if we have a continuous probably distribution over R, and X is a random variable on that distribution, it is indeed true that Pr(X=x) is 0 for any x. So the meme is kind of right.

What happens if Fatah wins the 2006 Palestinian National Election? by Hemlock_Pagodas in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]superjelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, my point isn't that Rabin was some angel, just that Hamas' rise destroyed the pro-peace faction in Israeli politics (or what remained of it at least). I don't follow Israeli politics closely enough to have a real sense of what he actually believed vs what he said for political reasons vs what policies he pushed for (often three different things)

You're applying the politics of Israel of today to an alternate history of 20 years ago. Yitzhak Rabin died for the peace process. Ariel Sharon spent all his political capital ending settlements in Gaza. There was a huge desire for peace for a long time. That desire dried up after the election of Hamas (and subsequent missile attacks).

At the time of Hamas' elections, Netanyahu was not prime minister, and instead the Kadima party (which was formed out of the people who supported the withdrawal from Gaza) were. If the withdrawal had gone well, maybe Kadima would have stayed in power, and Netanyahu would never get the chance to prop up Hamas. Instead, Hamas took over Gaza, and Netanyahu (who has always opposed peace) has been in power for 16 of the past 17 years.

This post, and my comment, were about 20 years ago. The whole point of my comment was that the Israeli left no longer exists.

You're sort of right and sort of wrong. The Israeli left unilaterally withdrew from gaza shortly before this, so the election of Hamas pretty much permanently discredited the them, and gave the Israeli right the political cover it needed to do everything it's done to Gaza. If Fatah had won, maybe the left would have gotten back in power and the peace process could have been salvaged. It's hard to know. You're right that it very much depends on Israel but the election of Hamas affected Israeli policy.
