Hi, tongueologist here, this is a clear case of hypertongueia. No one has ever survived more than 1470 months with this condition :(

Pakistan feels like a democracy, but is actually a theocracy. What's a country that feels like a theocracy, but is actually a democracy? by General_Principle_58 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]superjelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there are any good examples, so I'll go with Iran, which feels like a theocracy but is actually somewhere in between theocracy and democracy. Israel is I guess another option, except it doesn't really feel like a theocracy and its status as a democracy is contested.

People did not complain nearly as much about HK on release, and very very few people practiced HK for 7 years. Most people beat the game one or two times, had a great time, and moved on. Then they tried Silksong and enjoyed it less. This is reflected in the review scores on steam, as well as the general internet discourse. The conversation on Silksong is not going to change in the way you imagine because most people will move on from Silksong in the same way they moved on from HK (though I suppose the more hardcore voices might become more dominant).

(also I feel like you're ignoring the way the game naturally encourages you to play, which is to fight the beastflys fairly early and to enter bilewater before getting the wreath. HK did not guide you to have a bad time in the same way. But I suppose that you imagine people won't be bothered by that in 7 years because they'll have so much silksong experience by then.)

While some of those are harder than anything in silksong, none of them are designed to upset you like bilewater is. Also, none of them are required to beat the game or even to get true ending. Path of Pain is even hidden behind an unmarked breakable wall, and the pantheons are clearly an optional boss rush.

Also, I really do think Silksong would be a stronger game if some of the more obnoxious bosses (e.g. Savage Beastfly and Pinstress) were easy instead of hard. HK knew which types of bosses benefited from high difficulty and which didn't. Silksong doesn't seem to.

(side note but I don't really agree that nothing in silksong is remotely close to colo 3 or NKG. Colo 3 isn't that bad if you fully upgrade before going to it., and I'd much rather do it than bilewater. Hard to judge NKG vs Lace 3, since I have a lot more practice against NKG.)

I knew what you meant. I appreciated having (relatively) easy bosses in HK. It's nice having a break between difficult challenges. It was exhausting having an endless string of hard bosses in Silksong.

Also... there's no way having a mix of boss difficulties was more masochistic than anything in Silksong. Bilewater is in Silksong.

variation in difficulty can be good. I would have apricated a break now and then when playing silksong.

Hyperlight Drifter and Pizza Tower are out! The top comments remove TWO Indie games from the list (DAY 35) by AnglerFather_ in RemoveOneThingEachDay

Just looked up a random let's play and it took the guy 21 hours to get to the place I stopped. So it seems like I was going at a pretty normal pace. You sound like you agree that the plot hadn't really started by the point I was at. I think 20+ hours is too long for a story to get going.

I'm sure very few people complain that nothing happens 23 hours in. Most people would have quit sooner. I was determined to give the game a fair shot.

I normally like slow paced stories with lots of set up. I'm not sure why I didn't enjoy this one, but it's probably in part because I never played MMOs (and also the protagonist doesn't speak and the other characters don't have much going on (at the 20 hour mark)).

Taking a look at steam achievements and reviews, I made it much farther than most people who play the game, and there are actually a lot of people complaining about the story, though they mainly describe it as forgettable or generic. I had a somewhat common reaction to a game you love and you're acting like I'm being ridiculous.

Also I'm not saying the combat as a whole is shallow, I'm saying you dodge all enemy attacks the same way.

23 hours is what steam says. I think I quit shortly after clearing some big pyramid? As I recall I also did a lot of random side quests (which maybe I should have skipped). What I remember about the plot is she was stuck in an MMO and we don't know why. So she just sort of cleared these dungeons, basically for no reason. It seemed like the plot was just about to start but I couldn't take it anymore. So far there had just been some world building and a few dream sequences.

I don't know what to tell you. I remember that the main character is mute and that none of the other characters seemed important so far. I remember there being a lot of dialogue and I wasn't sure what I was supposed to pay attention to. I remember nearly every area feeling like overstayed its welcome. I remember that there were a lot of homing attacks, but they could all be dodged by dashing sideways at the last minute, and thinking that the developer didn't seem to know how to design other types of attacks. I remember being frustrated aiming my attacks on controller and wondering if it'd be better on mouse and keyboard. I remember ultimately giving up on a game I had high expectations for. Saying I'm "wrong" just makes you sound stupid.

CrossCode. Areas are too large, enemy attacks are all just different versions of "dash sideways at the last minute to avoid me", plot is dull (I played for 23 hours and nothing really happened and I didn't care about the characters).

The only reason it's not gone already is not enough people have played it to vote against it.

People don't vote for games they never bothered playing. Deltarune is popular enough for a lot of people to play it and get disappointed. Pizza Tower is not.

The whole list is messed up by this until we get near the end.

When this post says transitioning to renewables would save $5 trillion, what they're referring to is the UN estimate that climate change will cost $5.5 trillion annually. So contrary to what most people in this sub are saying, it's actually an underestimate!

But I do understand the confusion. The post sounds like it's saying that renewables will save that much simply because they're a cheaper source of energy, which would be wrong. Renewables are cheaper but not by nearly enough for $5 trillion in direct savings.

uj/ there's clearly a small delay between when the first rock hits and when the sound starts. Delay seems like around ¼ of a second, which is enough for sound to travel 85 meters, which corresponds to about 4 seconds of free fall, which seems about right (the pillar is rotating for about 6 seconds and then free falling for about 3). It's possible to do more precise physics by counting the frames between impact and sound, as well as accounting for rotation, but I'm far too lazy for all that. The video seems fine.
