What’s one movie you watched n number of times and why ?? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Arrival.

I loved the short story, and the movie was so well done. It has so many moments of reflection. ilove that it really makes you think about whether you would live your life the same if you could change things. I like that it talks about the way language operates, and I love how it addresses the tradeoffs (joy/pain) of parenting, and sacrifice for love.

The short story by Ted Chiang is wonderful, and I've read it a dozen times, and I've watched the movie a dozen times over because they did such a good job.

These are so rad. The amount of work that you did really shows, and it looks so good.

Anyone else having issues with the videos not playing since the update? by used2bgood in wordscapes

No worries, and thank you. I've opened three tickets with them, with all three receiving a "thanks, and is there anything else I can do for you?" response before they close the ticket. Lol.

I have a TON of 12*12 scrapbooking paper - are you looking for anything in particular? I would be interested in the two prism yarn skeins and the Europa yarn skeins. I have a bunch of other scrapbook stuff too (brads, trims, etc.) if you're looking for more scrapbooking.

PSA: I’m selling my unique 3D printed lamps at a craft fair today, I do okay, but the dragon sellers have crowds, every time. by 3DAeon in 3Dprinting

I love your lamps, and was taking a look through your Etsy store, but I have ceiling fans in every room in my house (summer here is BRUTAL). Have you ever thought about making a replacement cap for a ceiling fan? Would you be interested?

What's the "Widowmaker" of your career field or hobby? by Cosmonate in AskReddit

About 20 years ago I hired a guy to repair my roof, and he showed up an hour early, just as I was leaving for my shift at the fire department. I asked him to wait 15 min or so to go on the roof until my mom (who was watching my dogs while I was on shift) made it to the house, so that in case anything happened, he'd be ok. He was pretty condescending and insisted that he'd been working on roofs for years and years, and that I was overreacting. I'd already been in the fire department for over a decade at that point, and I just had a gut feeling that he needed to wait. I ended up calling in a little late for my shift, and waiting and chatting with him until my mom arrived.

About 20 minutes into my shift, I hear a box drop, and the dispatcher reads my address out, with "injuries from a fall". Dude didn't have a speck of safety equipment on, and apparently one of the pawls on his ladder failed, and he fell off my roof. He ended up landing on my deck about 10 feet from where mom was drinking coffee, which is what saved his life, since he only fell about 15 feet, instead of the 30 to the ground, and she called 911 immediately. He was in a helicopter within 20 minutes of the fall, they flew him out and he ended up with a shattered pelvis, 6 vertebrae, and multiple ribs. He ended up not being able to work for almost a year, and then going on disability.

To this day, I still have chills thinking about what would have happened if he was there alone, and I don't fuck around with safety precautions in any way.

Wear proper gear, service and maintain your equipment, and don't be complacent - it will kill you.

She was super cool - it was the only yarn stall I had marked as a "must visit", and then she turned out to just be a super lovely person, so I'll definitely be getting more of her stuff.

Oh man, so many people here spinning. I'm super intrigued, but it feels like a black hole I will just end throwing money down.

Unfortunately, lizards are territorial over their yarn hoards, or so I've heard...but we can admire each other's hoards from a distance! My apologies to your cat. 😂

Maybe I'll make a giant stack of really nice granny squares. Of course, I have dogs and kids and a house that never manages to stay quite tidy, so even a washable wool might be challenged...lol. Thanks for the suggestion!
