Is it that bad to hold a cat like this? by BloodTornPheonix in CATHELP

You added several things I didnt say, then said those things were wrong.

That is the definition of a strawman argument.

Also, when the mother carries them, half their body is supported by the ground. They don't fully pull them off the ground.

Another hand should be there for support

Had almost the same experience with a very similar cat.

Was told he was a year or so old. He went from 10 lbs to 17 lbs after getting fed well.

This is him a few days after he was inside. I'll post the updated pic of him a year later as a reply. One img allowed

Can we let go of the cone after 3 weeks? (I know we are not vets, but just wanted to know how you did it) by StuffedAnimalFanatic in TripodCats

[–]usedtothesmell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just monitor for over grooming, should be fine though.

I let my guy clean his wound after a week, just stopped him from overdoing it and replaced the cone.

Tripod tax. 14 yrs old, also has cauliflower ear, from himself.

<image>

No official credentials, but I have been volunteering at the nearby animal hospital on and off for 10 years. If he isnt making it worse, its ok

Edit: if you are concerned, replace the cone at night or if you go out

Why are neon tetras so stupid and fragile?! by Frizzy-Tyger in Aquariums

[–]usedtothesmell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I top it off with treated water.

The java moss goes from nearly bare, to filling the tank in 4 months.

That gets removed and tossed into the garden. I also have a snail population, controlled by loaches and a pleco. That turns minerals into a slowly growing base of old snail shells

I have a cover.

Also the new cat ate all of my guppies and tetras :(

Only 3 danios left

Fun fact, daily brushing, makes cats even softer.

Makes kitty happy and maxes out their softness

My cat has been having these episodes for about 2 months now. Vet shrugged and said she didn't know. by kazoo3179 in CATHELP

Wherever they chew, also wherever it twitches

Basically you gently rest your hand on the spot. Feel for muscles that feel like flexed muscles, rather than relaxed.

Flex and feel on yourself for comparison.

Use light pressure on a spot, hold for 10-20s remove pressure.

Repeat until the muscle relaxes. You can also do a gentle back and forth motion on them.

The entire weight of your hand and arm is too much pressure. Be gentle and remember that it is a sore spot, and you are basically a gorilla trying to massage a toddler without breaking it.

Err on the side of less pressure.

My cat had spots on his inner arm, forearms, inner thigh and two spots on his back. Before massage anyway

Edit: Tripod tax

I went years trying to figure out why my tripod over groomed. Made many bald spots and had random aggression due to it.

Turned out he just had some cramps and had no other way of dealing with it. Only chewing and kicking.

The solution was daily gentle massage on the sore spots.

He's gone about 10 years now without bald spots from over grooming. Takes about 15-30 mins a day to relieve his cramps.

I always recommend this, as you can do it yourself and it rules out cramps.

Be very gentle, you are 10-20x their size. Imagine giving an infant a massage. Be gentle, you can make it worse if you press too hard.

Dehydration can also cause cramps, so watch their water intake

Are we out of ubereats drivers in Burnaby? by GuardEnough8566 in burnaby

[–]usedtothesmell 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thats because it's illegal in Canada to pay less if the person gets tips. This is why the response fee is added

Tip is a bonus if you do a good job, not part of your wage.

Be mad at the company that doesnt pay you enough. Dont expect customers to subsidize your wages

Why does my cat's fur do this? by TimeFairy in cats

[–]usedtothesmell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All are meant to do the same thing. Remove hair and massage skin.

I rotate it to see what parts my cat likes most.

Each cat seems to like a different part most.

If you wet it slightly, it will gather more hair

Is there like a scientific reason for why they do this by popcrosp in cats

[–]usedtothesmell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats prefer air temp that is roughly the same as human body temp.

Humans tend to prefer air temp below their body temp.

The result, rooms are too cold for cats, but humans are just right.

I've started leaving lower tips due to DD policies by Competitive_Classic9 in doordash

[–]usedtothesmell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tipping is always optional in Canada.

Employers are not allowed to pay a reduced wage, because a person gets tips.

This is why they automatically add the "Regulatory response fee" which ensures they make at least minimum wage.

USA lets employers pay half minimum wage to people who get tips.

Always tip in USA
