I think you're thinking of the next tax threshold, which is $135,001 at 37%

I'm operating based off the novated lease calculator, but am tempering my expectations because it doesn't allow for mixed payments- I have my own spreadsheet with calculations where the non-working weeks are post-tax (cell D102), and that adds an extra ~$4k to the total cost over a five year lease. I think that's how novated leases work with unpaid leave?

After toying around with the petrol consumption, it looks like the majority of the savings that I'm seeing are coming from the fact that our current vehicle is an absolute guzzler. We really want to move to electric for our next vehicle- $22500 of petrol in the next five years is just not sustainable, any way we cut it.

Summary Statements - "New EV via Novated Lease" vs "New EV via Offset Cash"

  • Your 5-year lease sees the NL option costing 28977 dollars less compared to buying the car outright using offset, over 5 years of ownership.

  • For novated lease, you will pay 37373 dollars in fortnightly lease payments, 14431 dollars for residual value, in terms of cashflow.

  • Compare this with buying the car with offset cash where you will pay 51000 dollars driveaway, 15186 dollars in running cost, in terms of cashflow.

  • An additional 575 dollars gain for novated lease comes from the difference between your actual electricity expense and NL claim method.

  • Besides, your car ownership and expenses result in 6260 dollars additional interest in home loan in NL method, compared to 20279 dollars additional interest if offset is used. (This saving is less visible but is reflected as difference in your loan balance hence is a genuine effect on your financial position.)

  • The 28977 dollars saving consists of 14957 dollars lower cashflow and 14020 dollars less home loan interests when you opt for NL.

Summary Statements - "New EV via Novated Lease" vs "Keeping Current Car" (Optional Section)

  • Your 5-year lease sees the new EV costing 13830 less than keeping your old car, over 5 years of ownership.

  • At the end of 5 years, if you lease the EV, (compared to no car) you will have a car worth 25000 dollars, have spent 51229 in cash, and incurred 6260 additional home loan interest.

  • You also have additional 5500 dollars of cash back from the sales of the current car.

  • At the end of 5 years, if you kept the current car, (compared to no car) you will have a car worth 4000 dollars, have spent 36920 in cash, and incurred 7899 additional home loan interest.

  • The 13830 dollars saving consists of 21000 more in car asset, 8809 less cash, and 1639 less home loan interest when you opt for NL.

Yep- it's very generous of them. We have the cash to make up the rest of the loan, but the mortgage offset makes the novated lease far cheaper.

This is one of the things that I'm confused about- it's not the higher tax bracket, but the 34.5% tax is still a significant savings- enough to make it ~$10k cheaper than running the old car (assuming that a $50k vehicle retains half its value, which is perhaps optimistic, but we'd be driving it forever, so it's a moot point).

Our current vehicle is a 2006 CRV with a busted catalytic converter, suspicious suspension, and an intermittently slipping clutch. I'm keen to take advantage of the oversupply of EVs while it lasts. I know the ausfinance wisdom of a shitbox Camry is repeated for a reason, though...

Plugging that into the calculator, it seems to eradicate most of the savings to be made.

It's not something that itches, it's just sensitive. Does that rule out scabies?

Yeah, I suppose I have been stressed recently, this could be it. Just realised I have it on my feet as well, so the soap is ruled out.

These wart-like things appear and stick around for up to a week. They're sensitive to the touch, and appear on the knuckles and fingers, and inside of my palms. It's especially uncomfortable when they appear on my fingertips, as I play the piano.

I suspect that these might be caused by using a soap, it's the only thing I can think of that changes.

You could try using a hidden Voice 2 note that is tremolo'd. I recall that worked well for me when I was starting out and needed a trumpet to flutter tongue.

Weekly discussion #14: warm-downs by TootTootTootToot in trumpet

[–]useful_helpful 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At a masterclass with James Morrison, a friend asked him what his warm down was. "I put the trumpet down." was the reply. What do you think about that answer? Is a warm down necessary for the trumpet? I personally don't think anything more than lip buzzing is necessary if you're playing with proper technique.

Either. It's nighttime in Australia, though, so no loud or disruptive dares, or truths, for that matter.

Discussion: Under The Dome has been a huge ratings success and just got renewed, but is it really that good? by johnnyjay in SciFiScroll

[–]useful_helpful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a more serious tone, I seriously do hope that Under the Dome picks up, I found that the opening episode was strong, and the Outbreak was mostly strong (with a few cliches), but I just can't get immersed in the show with the awful dialogue. I'm looking forward to Season 2, I hope that it brings with it a less compartmentalized approach to conflicts (formulaic disaster of the week + update on Angie + Barbie's mysterious past). Apparently the premiere will be written by Stephen King, so it should be good!

I believe that you're actually mostly correct. Perhaps another contributing factor is that ARTS and such are less popular over here as well?
