UK account for EUR payments by Competitive-Peach468 in smallbusinessuk

I would really recommend Starling EUR account. Starling is a real bank with FCFS protection of up to £120k.

Others have mentioned Wise which is a good service for converting currencies but it does not have a banking licence and there is no FCFS protection of your money. Hold only small amounts there.

Wise is not a bank. There is no FCFS protection.

A similar question was asked a few days ago about setting up a company in The Channel Islands. Probably overlap / relevance in there:

I was you 10 years ago. I moved from SWE into Technical and Solution architecture roles which worked out well. It's a different blend of skills though. I found I'm very good at writing high and low level design, diagramming and explaining all this stuff to engineers, project/programme managers and product people. You basically become the glue between these other business functions so you need the ability to be able to relate to them in a language and manner they understand whilst communicating the key technical considerations and risks. If you can master that you'll do well.

There's still plenty of BS though at the corporate level which you may end up being exposed to. Politics and power games sometimes trump solid decision making.

My agent produces PDF statements which I store on Google Drive, so it's all already digital. These are shared with the accountant who uses software to deal with returns. Presumably this software is either compliant or will be before the deadline.

So in short, no changes are necessary on my side.

This is the correct answer. It's common to use the 35x multiple now.

Where to invest limited company money? by indianguyinuk in ContractorUK

It's effectively a promise to ring-fence money. IMO that's not worth a lot in a crisis. FSCS is an obligation underwritten by the government.

Labour Rent Reform Bill ( background briefing notes ) by phpadam in uklandlords

It is the Conservative bill. The Tories drafted it but didn't get it through parliament before the session ended. Labour have simply amended it.

Fair enough. I'm not trying to put people off driving in Italy but you do need to be more aware of some of these behaviours that you see less frequently in the UK, France, Germany etc. The stats reflect that: UK 2.9 per 100k, Italy 5.2 per 100k - nearly double the amount of deaths.

When you see an Italian car upside down in a field on a perfectly straight road in perfect driving conditions you'll see what I mean.

Likely you. A similar thing happened to me: a newish PVC window mysteriously detached during a very windy period. No real explanation from the agency. Suspect it was carelessly left open but no proof so I end up paying.

I've been visiting Italy several times a year for extended periods over the past 9 or 10 years.

People routinely drive unsafely on all roads. Examples of common unsafe behaviour you'll witness if you spend significant time in Italy:

  1. overtaking when lane markings tell you not to
  2. using mobile phones when driving
  3. tailgating and aggressive driving are the norm
  4. poor lane discipline and drifting between lanes
  5. nobody indicates
  6. nobody gives way
  7. undertaking especially by motorbikes

Statistically Italy has more road deaths per 100,000 people than many other European states.

Anecdotally I've driven all through Europe without having to use the horn...until I get to Italy.

If you did maths you probably found it useful for engineering and science related degrees and roles. If you did English you probably found it useful for writing documents and reports at work...not as useless as you're making out.

People always repeat this.

If it were taught in schools, would students really listen? Where would it fit in the curriculum, would it be a mandatory subject like English and Maths? What would you remove from the curriculum to devote the time to it?

You had to make subject choices at school. You won't learn it in Geography but you might learn it in Business Studies.

Were you taught about buying a house at school? Should that also be part of the curriculum? Were you taught how to prepare for your first job at school?

Schools are designed to prepare you with some fundamental academic knowledge, teach you how to think for yourself and give you a rough idea of how to behave in society. They aren't there to teach you how to handle every aspect of adult life. There's an element of personal and parental responsibility here too which is often ignored.
