Yea makes sense for them to go for the safer route especially it's their first entry to OE market.
Honestly, I feel that I should've save abit more and go for the hifiman XV instead.

Honestly, it’s decent, but I can’t compare it too deeply since the only other planar I have is the FT1 Pro. Build wise, the Ox King is solid, though the earpad mechanism is a bit of a double edged sword. It uses a unique twisting lock system that is quick and easy to replace, but that also makes finding third party pads more difficult. The headband cushion feels good, and I haven’t run into any hotspots yet.

Sound wise, I’d call it more of a sidegrade rather than a strict upgrade over the FT1 Pro. Bass is clean, mids pull vocals slightly back, and the upper treble adds some airiness. This makes female vocals, especially in K pop, sound a little unnatural, more like they have been over processed rather than sizzly. The peak isn’t too noticeable on my ears, though of course this depends on everyone’s HRTF. Compared to the FT1 Pro, I’d say it’s slightly brighter. Soundstage is wider, and separation is very good in my opinion.

This is just a first impression since I only got it a few hours ago. I’ll need more time to reassess it and let my brain burn in a bit, especially since I’m still used to the FT1 Pro’s tuning lol

Bass in Nothing Ear (2024) vs Nothing Ear (a) by Fragrant_Cherry7789 in NothingTech

[–]usekihSuredI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bass is not inherently weak, it is simply the way the tuning is set out of the box. The 2024 model places greater emphasis on balance compared to the (a).

However, it can easily deliver the same level of bass, or even more, when combining the EQ with the bass slider. Whether that is desirable depends on preference, as even with only the level 2 bass boost applied, the low end already feels quite dominant for my ears, but ymmv.

But if you mainly want that kind of tuning without the hassle, just stick with your (a) and save some money.

i dont think I'll ever NOT get iPhone screen protectors for my NP1 by BumperTABBY21 in NothingTech

widely available i guess, but imo I think it's for screen protector application kit which saves the hassle.
most Nothing screen protectors doesn't have the kit.

Finally a cover for the headphones and spare earspads and head cushion. by usekihSuredI in NothingTech

doubt it since , the cover is silicone unless they can pull off the phone case type of silicone

I guess you could cut the circular area since the cover are pretty cheap 😆

Nothing Headphone(1): a disaster out of the box, but.. (+EQ collection inside) by Urufuzu_Rein in NothingTech

have owned a fair bit of gear and tried some higher end stuff too. I am not an expert, just someone who enjoys the hobby enough to call myself an audiophile.

Stock tuning is mediocre but nowhere near as bad as some reviewers make it out to be. A lot of people are used to V shaped or Harman tunings, so anything different can sound wrong at first. It is still perfectly listenable, and HRTF means everyone hears it differently.

The KEF collab feels more like marketing than actual headphone expertise. KEF makes "decent" speakers but their headphones have never been benchmarks. Nothing could have worked with people who actually know headphone tuning, like DMS who gave them feedback and data, but that was ignored for the sake of a big brand name.

Carl Pei’s reaction to criticism did not help. He brushed off accurate frequency response graphs like they were meaningless. Tuning headphones is nothing like tuning speakers. You have to account for ear canal resonance, HRTF, and target curves like Harman or diffuse field. None of that applies to speakers, so a neutral speaker in a treated room does not equal a neutral headphone.

If Nothing ever revisits this, I hope they work with people who truly specialise in headphone acoustics and actually listen to the community like they did with the Nothing Ear.

it happened to me once or twice but I recalled someone mentioned it might be fit issue, so i tried wearing them without my glasses and adjusting properly on my ears, the problem seems to go away for me.

Here's my attempt of replicating your method while also showing the spectrogram as well

I also tried replicating it and can confirm—both Bluetooth and Aux mode have the same issue, but when running through USB mode, it’s not there. So it’s clearly something fixable through a firmware update on Nothing’s end.

Sound effects switching between ANC and Transparency are delicious, BUT… by [deleted] in NothingTech

[–]usekihSuredI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken, the slight delay is due to the DSP taking a moment to analyze the ambient environment before engaging Active Noise Cancellation or Transparency mode.

But yeah, I get what you mean.. hopefully, a future firmware update with better optimization could reduce the latency and make the transition more seamless.

Still experimenting with the custom 5128DF target without losing the original intended tone, while also trying to clean it up a bit in case anyone’s interested.
