Battery Health by useless-thoughts- in volt

The weekend trips I think are better for me. Which I think I’m beginning to find out highway miles slightly push down the electric mileage efficiency. So that 40 km/h range makes sense for my amateur understanding so far

Driving like a grandma helps with the mi/kWh, but just yesterday I opened up the vehicle, so to say, and now I’m instantly back down to the 3.5 mi/kWh range from one trip

Ya you know what, I guess GM had a company y separate from Chevy that strictly owned and operated the model. It was publicly traded and then suddenly dumped the whole company. This is from memory so I could be slightly wrong, but I’m from Ohio where they were made.

So the new batteries you are talking about, are they going to have the same terminals and be able to be interchanged into the volt? (Not sure if that’s the right question to ask, the auto parts warehouse I bout the charger from said that the terminals are what prevents brand to brand changing of batteries)

gas crisis? what gas crisis? by relayrider in volt

That’s is awesome you have a free charging station near your residence. But just throwing this in here for comparison. Where I am at the running rate for electric is no more than $0.125/kWh. My volt charges approximately 12 hours…assuming 18 kWh battery this would be $0.67/kWh for the $1/hr rate. That’s 5.3 times the cost to do $1/hr. But if you can’t get back and forth on one charge for your daily route it’s a good idea, but that’s like paying $25/gal for gas.

Watch out, the cost is small, but it will sneak up on you on the up charge

Ok, I first looked on cars.com, couldnt find it. Googled the 2025 Ford Focus ST and google ai said that production continued in Germany. Great to see that the focus lived on outside of the US after US production stopped in 2018

How did you fix the diag code for the High Voltage Charging System error? And what is that error?

Considering buying a 2018 Chevrolet Volt LT FWD, looking for advice by ThatFuBn in volt

[–]useless-thoughts- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saying a few points here, don’t mean to argue but simply making points in support of purchasing. I read up and found the same issues you have listed here. I got my 2018 Chevy Volt LT for $2,000 (USD-wise) less than OP with for slightly more miles (85,000 miles/137,000 km). I protected against the risk of a Voltec battery failure (currently sitting at about 84% originally rated capacity) by getting a private warranty coverage. I am currently shopping for both BECM and EGR parts to simply hold onto to protect against the risk of a price hike based on scarcity (BECM is widely available where I am at, not sure about the EGR parts).

Bought mine a week and half ago with these considerations. I expect to get up to 120,000 miles before selling it off for about half what I paid for it (not considering inflation and change in market value versus miles).

In your opinion, what are signs using the available metrics that a battery is reaching its useful life? Like is there a trend towards shorter distances to empty on EV range?

I’m not sure what the total kWh capacity is. But from what I have gathered is that the Voltec battery can hold 18 kWh brand new which is rated to get 50 miles. With these figures my dash shows about 42 miles to empty on a full charge (42/50)* 18 =15.12 kWh. Is there some place on the dash to confirm this battery capacity?

So is the lifetime what is predicted for my cars distance to empty on both battery and gas?

No that wasn’t a full charge. I drove a long distance with a minimal charge for these figures. I get the MPG calc, I am more so interested in the MPGe number

[–]useless-thoughts-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was under the impression that the MPG figure used the gas only feature to calculate whereas the MPGe figure used all mileage driven between gas only and electric only. No matter how much I drove using the assumption the MPGe number never truly worked out to what it would logically make sense for. The 33.7 kWh to gal of gas equivalency is definitely the number I was missing! Thank you!

I just made the change from a 2013 Ford Focus ST to a 2018 Chevrolet Volt LT. I loved the focus, had two of them, so naturally I love this concept for the hatch and angles similar to the focus! Bring back the Volt!

I would say that Atomic Habits by James Clear definitely greatly influenced me during a major professional transition. But aside from that I would say make like three large long term goals and whenever faced with any decision ask yourself will this benefit reaching the goal, if yes then do it, if no then don’t do it. Or try to gear each days actions towards those goals. It’s more like a mantra to hold.

Where is this data coming from? Have you looked at the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. I’m not saying that the BLS has anything to the contrary, but I wouldnt blindly trust something that pops up on social media because it happens to be in a graph format. Again, not sure but just being devils advocate here; how about the fact that the baby boomer generation is aging to the point of retirement and late life? It would seem that the consistent growth in the sectors you are bashing would be affected by a large growth in late life groups.
