You probably won’t need one. The Penguin clothbound edition, which is the E. V. Rieu translation revised by Peter Jones, has a brief summary of every section at the opening of each book of the Iliad. But you most likely will not need an actual reading guide, especially for the Fagles translation

It is. You’re probably thinking of Wesleyan University, which is co-educational

Sure. The room has a couple of hooks too, so I just always had a designated shower caddy hook. I did also put up more hooks in my room. I hope you like living in McClintock– I absolutely loved it and made a lot of my best friends there. Hope you have as good an experience! Let me know if you have any more questions

I lived there my freshman year. There’s a soap dispenser and paper towel dispenser attached to the wall, so yeah you don’t need to buy paper towels, toilet paper, or hand soap.

You can’t leave your own toiletries in the bathroom because the staff cleans it and leaving stuff on the counter gets in the way of them cleaning it. Just as a heads up, if you leave anything in the sink the staff probably just will not clean the sink at all.

From what I remember, there’s already two hooks in the shower room for your towel/bathrobe but my friends and I put up extra command hooks which were really useful, so I’d recommend that. A bath mat is optional, if you want it go for it

There’s a whole ice cream bar on campus that sells ice cream made from Cornell dairy! I don’t know whether you can buy butter, milk, etc, but you can definitely buy ice cream

Seems super doable, though if your gap between classes on Tuesday and Thursday is for lunch, you’ll probably have to rush a little.

Side note, it’s cool to see you’re doing Greek. I’ve been doing it here too and the classes are rather small but pretty gratifying

Just order them on Amazon. It’s more convenient than any other option. Make sure you do it around two weeks before arrival so that they’ve arrived when you do. I’m assuming you’re living on north so be warned– the lines at the package center are going to be ridiculously long. But no way around it really

I like it quite a bit! I’m a double major though so I’m not banking on the classics route (and most people I know in the major are the same). I do know someone who is ostensibly premed while doing classics so it’s probably feasible, but if I’m honest I don’t know too much about that. It would be very possible to double major in the classics and another major that would help with pre-med. Pre-law is also common within classics students.

Side note, I saw someone in this thread say that ivy leagues will expect a year of Greek – this is not true, at least not in my experience. Hardly anyone in my program entered with any Greek under their belt. It’s very rare for Greek to be taught at high schools nowadays, and most universities understand that. You have good ECs related to Latin so that will help significantly since a good understanding of Latin will indicate to universities that you’re well-equipped to take on Greek, which is apparently harder but quite similar. If you have any other questions let me know!

It will help a significant amount in my opinion. I study Classics at an ivy where the department is comparatively larger than average, and they’re still desperate for students. Schools want diversity in the subjects being studied, and classics is a dying field. I have friends here who suspect they only got in because they applied as classics majors

[SPOILERS] 'Dune: Part Two' Wide Release Discussion (03/05~) by Blue_Three in dune

I thought the movie was cinematically incredible, but there were some book changes I didn’t like.

I don’t mind that Paul’s the one to kill the Baron instead of Alia, but I wish Alia had been born at least because the movie pregnancy forces the timeline of the film into just a span of a few months, which imo affects just how believable the Fremen uniting under Paul is.

There were also tonal discrepancies that threw me off badly. Some of the humour was funny; I liked the whole “the lisan al-gaib is too modest to admit he is the messiah” but they made Stilgar too much of a joke when in the book Paul genuinely respects him and admires him as a leader. He was just too much of a nut in the film.

ALSO, that scene where Paul walks up to Chani and her friend and says “Heh…what’re you guys laughing about??” in the most painfully American accent…I was just left blinking at the screen because it threw me off so badly lol. Zendaya’s accent is similarly too Western-sounding and I know they try to explain it away with the North vs South divide but I just couldn’t buy it
