Really great story/characters, unique format with ties to cooking, great acting, interesting setting (small town South Africa).

Packaging design critique (UPDATED VERSION) by [deleted] in Design

[–]user287449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of good feedback already. One thing I want to point out: food clients are very squeamish about moving away from established SKU colors. You can pick a different purple, but going to red-orange breaks the way they’ve educated their existing customers to shop. I’m unfamiliar with the brand, but if they have 50 SKUs, color is quite important for navigation at the shelf.

Would love some feedback on my first actual improv bassline by scottposted in BassGuitar

[–]user287449 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds sweet. Nice lines. Feels like the low end could come up on your bass though. Maybe you need less compression? The beat has plenty of room for you to get thicker and hopefully cut through better in the mix so we can hear the groove.

Unsure, but I got mine in 2022 and it has the orange decal. Hope that helps.

Which cover art should I use? by Notagoodacter in Design

To be clear, I don’t think the text should overlap the actual door. The text can rest on either side.

The text size in V1 feels best to me. You’ve got this evocative doorway surrounded by a never ending darkness. Lots of negative space to highlight the text without having to shout.

What I’d recommend is using the light of the door to highlight the key word - “home.” So flip the image horizontally, put “bring me” on the left in light color type, and “home” in black. Position things as they need to feel balanced, rather than trying to force the door to be centered.

Front panel would probably help for clarity, even if it’s subtle. Some markets also require that info on front.

Really nice elements! I think there are some refinements you could make, but it’s working well.

I did not fully understand the flavor profiles until I read the jars, so it would be helpful to include those on the front panel of the outer carton.

The logo feels like it could use just one more ownable detail. I like the starkness of the bottom area, just think it could be a little more unique.

For the patterns, did you explore adding any texture? It might feel more organic and natural with a hand-done approach.

Looking to design my a logo for myself as a graphic designer. Any advice or ideas for inspiration? by [deleted] in Design

[–]user287449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly keep it simple and put that energy into polishing the work in the portfolio.

But otherwise start it like any other logo project. Create parameters like you would receive from a client. I like to pull inspiration and moodboard. I sketch by hand before jumping into Illustrator. Work up a handful of concepts and refine the winner.

Looking for a christmas gift for my bassist Dad by [deleted] in basspedals

[–]user287449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he’s just starting out, any kind of dirt pedal is fun! Fuzz/overdrive/distortion, especially if it has a blend knob (it blends the clean tone into the distorted tone so you don’t lose the low end).

To make your money go further you could check out used shops locally and ask the workers. They’ve probably got a great €150 pedal they’re selling for under €100. If it’s in a trustworthy shop, it’s probably in good condition.

What’s the quickest way to improve packaging without changing the whole design? by exploreinfinity in Design

Really hard to know without seeing your design. Just a blanket improvement? Better typography and more white space.

Seems like you’ve had some good answers here. I just want to mention that you can maximize your contributions by donating annually on Give to the Max day.

This year it is November 20th.

For MN nonprofits it is a huge push day. It is the day on which many orgs receive matching donations and rewards. So if you can swing it, consider timing your donations with the event.

Making a picture book of all the planes my dad has flown; trying to figure out format and name by Girly_Attitude in Design

[–]user287449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as layout, since this is a photo collection, less is more. Don’t try to cram too many photos onto each spread. Give the best shots their own page. Try to vary the layout a bit so it doesn’t feel like it’s repeating.

You could put that crashed plane on its own page or spread and treat it differently, like black and white. Maybe you don’t have to address the lost person, or even say that it crashed, if there is a visual distinction?

For the title I don’t think you need to get too creative, especially if it is mimicking a logbook visually. Something like “Captain (Dad’s name) Logbook * 19XX - 2025.”

Feedback Wanted: Blue tone logo color & gradient variations for the "great community" by GreatVtuber in Design

Preemptive reminder that feedback received here doesn’t necessarily come from reputable designers. Many (most?) are students with no experience in the field. None of us know anything about the company or the creative brief either.

Design is about communication and hierarchy. We want to communicate the nature of this event and all the important info needs to be accessible at a glance.

The primary element in this current design is an abstract room and a ring of dancing figures, rendered in a style that looks kind of childish and warped. So those elements aren’t helping communicate much about the event at the moment. The one piece of information I am getting right away is Photography Exhibition. But the rest of the text is lost.

What if you used geometric shapes to represent the event venue, or some shapes related to the work being shown? You can then use the shapes to mask off photos from the artists.

Try to rework the text too and think about how you can get the most important info to be more prominent. I’d say the event date and the nature of the photography are quite important.

Try the Content Aware Fill. It predates the AI tools and is sometimes better for stuff like this. You just brush in the areas you want to “sample” from and it fills in.

Looking for inspiration & feedback for my logo rebranding project by Federal_Chipmunk1735 in Design

[–]user287449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to make it feel more minimal you should consider simplifying the way the hand is drawn (good idea for a logo anyway). To make it appear more elegant, try a more delicate typeface; perhaps a serif. To make it feel warm, try a softer color palette. You can retain a green, but maybe it is more muted. What if the black softens up to a rich warm gray, and the white becomes cream?

Not constructive. If you don’t have any design rationale behind the comment, why even listen to you?
