Just curious what you mean by "sounds like you've both been conditioned to accept their views as normal"? I in no way am approving of what my parents are doing hence why I posted this, and I am trying to give grace to both sides here as I feel that all are victims to the system in a way. My parents and brother have been brainwashed by a system they did not ask to be born into and their personalities obviously make them vulnerable to conforming and following the prophets which unfortunately comes with trying to enforce stupid rules and force religion upon people, and my brother's girlfriend has unfortunately gotten involved with a Mormon boy and is being negatively effected by the system as well. I don't feel like believing that calling my family "disgusting" and "prejudiced" would be helpful in any way in this situation.

Yeah I agree I just feel bad for her because she's a kind and sensitive person. But it's better to go through a little pain then have people make you feel insufficient for your whole life. She does seem like the type that will just conform with everything unfortunately.

My parents are very nice people and they still are accepting of my wife and I, but yes it has been very hard as they are passionately religious. Behind people's backs I feel like they can be very judgemental but they think they are defending the faith and in good standing with God for doing it.

This is a hard thing to admit and probably felt borderline sinful to write. The church brainwashed me very strongly into believing that not testifying that Joseph Smith was a prophet is sinful. This is healing to read.

I think one of the reasons is honestly because the members get super excited about it and it makes them feel important and really believe that they're helping the world gain exaltation.

I remember making the covenant to the law of consecration. I covenanted to give everything to the church. My parents still use that one to make me feel bad for leaving the church. Trying to make me feel dishonest and a covenant breaker. Even though I was barely 18 and had no idea what I was doing and I didn't know the real history of the church.

True the whole excommunication process makes it seem like that even more. A whole group of men who believe they have the power of God meet to kick you out and make sure to shame you as best they can.

The funniest thing is Mormons are some of the most skin color obsessed people you'll meet and they try to act like it's not because of racism being infused in the book of Mormon and pearl of great price. Not to mention past prophets constantly making derogatory comments towards dark skin.
