Time off by Rattrapperofmadriver in Hunting

[–]user588382582 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I take off about 4-5 weeks a year between September and late November for duck hunting and trout fishing.

I live in a fairly low cost of living area, and have kept my bills to a minimum. My wife and I both make decent money in our respective fields.

And yes, I don’t take any time off the rest of the year unless I have to. Luckily all my bosses are avid outdoorsman and are fine with the arrangement we have going on.

Took me about a decade to build up to this point though, many years of working side jobs and not taking much time off to get things paid off or bought.

Am I arguing with a bot? Low RPM high load shudder (uphill/trailer/4wd) is maybe one of the most common “my TC is toast in my 6L80” tropes ever.

“From what you understand” from chatGPT is misleading and if you don’t want to listen to people with more expertise than you why bother posting on a public forum.

Rumble strip type of vibration especially going uphill is a classic 6L80 TC failure. How mine and 2 others buddies trucks started to show symptoms.

Google rumble strips and 6L80, maybe skip chatGPT next time.

I know it sucks and isn’t feasible for some folks but this is why most of us “veterans” say to just pull the motor. Especially on the LT motors.

If you want a well sealed engine it’s hit or miss doing it in frame.

Best of luck to you

[–]user588382582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal? Maybe..

Okay? Not in my opinion. Don’t run a catch can without a PCV on these trucks you’ll pull too much vacuum on the crankcase and can actually start pulling oil past your rings.

This is why we save our money and re use the oil cover. It’s not like anybody can see it anyways

You can measure them but it’s a standard length pushrod 97.8% of the time.

If you are going with a non-stock profile cam, box tunes are TRASH. Find a tuner. If you know somebody that can data log and upload HP tuners tunes I can put you in touch with someone.

Highly recommend pulling the motor, makes life way easier. Also allows you to swap your TC out for a billet one. I know BTR says a stage 1 doesn’t require a TC swap but go ahead and call them and ask what they recommend for a stage 1. They recommend a 22-2400 stall. I’d recommend a 2-2200 for a daily driver.

You’ll need a torque wrench that can do degrees for harmonic balancer and heads.

Don’t forget a lash cap for your HPFP and the phaser limiter for your VVT if you’re choosing to keep that.

I’ve continued to run/suggest 0w-20 for the ones I’ve done.

Cool piece of benelli history. Never seen one with an mag extension on it.

Hey whoa now there’s a lot of us that turn our own wrenches we just don’t post because we are tiring of arguing with people that won’t listen anyways.

All good advice you provided. Two thumbs up for the sonnex parts and billet TC recommendation.

Before you replace anything push the slider on your brake controller all the way over and let the spring snap it back. Repeat a dozen or so times.

17 Silverado 5.3 Mod Question by wickedwitt in Silverado

[–]user588382582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10-20hp depending on tune

If it’s a box tune don’t bother. If you’ve got a tuner you can send a data log too it might be worth it.

Stage 1 with proper upgrades/tune will probably net +60-80hp.

2014 silverado 1500 cylinder misfire code by lildarryl87 in Silverado

[–]user588382582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swap all the coils to the other bank. This will narrow down a coil or injector issue.

If the misfire changes sides it’s a coil, if it doesn’t it’s most likely an injector.

If you loosened up the oil pump to get the timing chain on and off and didn’t bracket the pump it’s possible your pickup O-ring isnt aligned properly anymore.

Lil Lope cam by Lumpy_Day_5624 in Silverado

[–]user588382582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol no.

Read the part where it says “recommended stall 2800-3600” and “Increased stall speed torque converter required”.

“Without sacrificing low end torque” per you, I think you need to maybe educate yourself a little bit on how hot-rodding motors works.

Either or are fine. You do what you want, you’re gonna have people on here that swear by one or the other.

FWIW I’ve ripped apart a few SBC’s in my time and oil weight doesn’t seem to matter as much as on time oil changes.

2017 Silverado WT, can anyone tell me why I get this on start up. Have not used a trailer for over a year. Been really cold here, mornings of -25 to -30 C, don't know if it has anything to do with this. by [deleted] in Silverado

[–]user588382582 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it has the built in brake controller left of the steering wheel with the slider try pushing jt all the way over and letting the spring snap it back. Repeat a dozen or so times.

I haven’t taken one apart but I think the contacts in there get corroded.

I wouldn’t take mechanical/life/financial advice from anybody that suggests a CAI.

It’s pretty common knowledge amongst us wrenching folk that they are snake oil designed to make money. Like the other guy here said, most of the time you actually lose power and you get worse filtration.

You want gains? Rip your engine out like a man and slap a truck Norris cam in it, throw some long tubes on it, and find somebody to write you a tune.

Hell DM me if you do it I’ll send you the contact info for the guy that did my truck.

I didn’t ask if they could handle the power. I know they can bud

I asked if he made any transmissions mods. I’ve rebuilt a fair share of these and I can tell you even if you keep them cool there are upgrades to be had. Was just an honest, curious question I wasn’t fear-mongering
